The exterior used for Bing Crosby’s Inn in the film Holiday Inn is actually a B&B in Monte Rio CA (just north of San Francisco) on the Russian River called Highland Dell Lodge. I was there several years ago and the owners gave me a tour. So you actually can make your dream come true and stay there!

Glad you put Funny Farm in there because most don’t recognize that house as a Christmas House. I like the house in Remember the Night with Fred McMurray and Barbara Stanwyk, where he takes her to his mom’s Indiana home to stay over the Christmas holiday because he’s a DA and she’s a woman charged with shoplifting. It is a very heart-warming story, and the house in it is very warm and welcoming to that woman. I just adore the movie. It’s little known. I did see it play on Turner Classics or AMC last year.

I know this isn’t a house but I love the apartment in “You’ve Got Mail”. Besides wouldn’t it be a trip to spend part of Christmas in New York City.

Love your blog.

Merry Christmas

That’s funny… I made my selection before I read yours and would pick the Stone family home, as well. Maybe with just a little less clutter, though.

10 Downing Street, Westminster, UK from “Love Actually” Really it would be Liam Neesom’s place from the movie, but I just had a bout of pretentiousness.

Out of the list, I would go with “Home Alone” and “Meet Me in St. Louis”. A Christmas home that’s my favorite all together though, is the “It’s a Wonderful Life” victorian home. It’s gorgeous!

Hi Julia!
I love this round-up! I enjoyed having a peek inside every post. I remember reading them when you first posted them. My favorite movie is A Christmas Story and their house is very nostalgic for me (their Christmas tree is my favourite) but the prettiest of all the houses in the one from The Holiday. I love her blue kitchen ; ) and it is so charming and cozy.
Your blog is such a gift to so many…I hope you and your family have a wonderful, happy Christmas. You work so hard to bring us the most amazing houses and I really appreciate it.

That is one of the hardest decisions of the day so far!!! I live in a Victorian and the Meet Me is St Louis house is one of my favorite houses of all time, but I don’t particularly love it for its Christmas-ness. Christmas in Connecticut is one of my all time favorite Christmas movies mostly because of that house and arriving by sleigh, so I had to vote for that house this time!

Oh my gosh, what a decision! I had to chose The Family Stone because of that awesome wrap around porch! But I’d love the Home Alone House too, and The Holiday Cottage even though it wouldn’t work with 2 kids tearing through it! Those 2 kids influenced my decision! And I just saw Mary put down the house in Stepmom, yep, that would be my favorite too!

I picked The Holiday cottage in England because I do love it but I just thought of another favorite of mine that I don’t think you have ever done, Julia, and that is the home (Orchard House) of the March family in the 1994 version of Little Women with Winona Ryder. By the way, Merry Christmas to you, Julia, and your family and thank you for all the happiness you’ve brought me this year with Hooked on Houses!

It’s such a hard decision for me b/c I love all of them! I think Home Alone still is one of my faves! I use to work at Bombay Company years ago part time. We became a popular store because they furnished the house with lots of the decor pieces. Like the angel candlesticks, nutcrackers and the ever famous and very popular selling marble top plant stand. Pretty much anything that was shown in that movie became a must have in the store.

I have loved “Meet Me in St. Louis” since I was a girl scout and saw it, at a special showing, in a restored movie theatre. The copy I have, has Lizzie Minnelli giving an introduction about her mom and dad and how they fell in love during this movie. Thanks for including this in your line-up!

Based on the house alone, not the movie, I have to go with The Holiday. I don’t like the movie much, but I watch it just to see that house! I’ve never seen Meet Me in St. Louis, but I’m gonna have to rent it now to see the rest of that gorgeous house. I do love the Christmas in Connecticut house too.

Maybe these count more as Inns (but people do live in them), but what about the beautiful homes/inns in White Christmas and Holiday Inn? Gorgeous!!!

i picked Christmas in Conn. but I can’t really decide which is my fav. There is something in all of them that I love. I think Holiday Inn has the same set as White Christmas. I watched both the other night and they both seem to have the same bar/lounge area. I saw that Holiday Inn was made about 10 years prior to White Christmas. I would love to go to that Inn for holidays, would’t you. Merry Christmas, Julia.

One of my favorite Christmas movies is The Bishop’s Wife. The interior of the Bishop’s house is beautiful. I love all the fancy woodwork. From the outside it looks like an ordinary brownstone like the homes on Commonwealth Ave in Boston. The interior of the widow’s home is also amazing.
