I know all the talk about “green houses” can get boring at times, but there’s nothing dull about HGTV’s Green Home 2008 in Tradition, South Carolina. If this is what environmental responsibility looks like, then sign me up.
Here’s the foyer, which proves they don’t have to be grand to be gorgeous:

These floors are beautiful:

The kitchen:

The adjoining dining area:

-
The pantry (let’s get real–is anyone really going to put all their cereal, noodles, and rice into pretty glass jars like this? Notice how they even got plain white paper towels lined up neatly on the bottom shelf!):

-
The living room:

-

-

-
The master bedroom (the woodwork is beautiful–note how they even put it on the ceiling):

-
The Guest Room (not loving the gold and brown):

-
I like this dresser and lamp, though:

The sitting area:

The screened porch and veranda:

The house at sunset (with water view):

This house is absolutely beautiful. If you win, can I come visit for the weekend????
Absolutely. I’ll have you all over for a big party!
that FLOORING!!! It is so beautiful! now….how to afford it….drat.
I know you are going to win…but if for some reason they pick me, I promise to put all my cereals and pastas in glass jars. You will see when you come visit for the weekend!
What a cute house! I just found your blog, and it soo many gorgeous houses and inspiration in here! Beautiful!
I just found your blog through Lisa’s Books on the Brain and am definitely “hooked” on it! I have a book blog, but have a major love of houses and are planning to add an addition on my own this year. Will be back soon!
I love this style of home- green or not. And BTW, HGTV had an online voting type thing to let viewers decide what color the “green” house should be. I remember that one of the choices was yellow and maybe the other was blue or white (?) but green was chosen. Out of the choices I thought green looked the best but it is one of my favorite colors so I’m biased.
Not so crazy about the yellow and brown room or the tile in the shower that mimics it.
Hi to all the new visitors who stopped by today! I’m so happy you’re here and loved reading your comments. Thanks!
Amy–I have to thank you for filling me in on how they picked the colors for the Green Home. Not sure how I missed that?? Ha. I mean, HGTV is playing 24-7 in my house. I should’ve known that.
So…I apologize to everyone who voted for green for doubting your choice. I do love how it looks. It just seems like every time you see examples of green homes, they are literally green.
Tracey–if for some crazy reason I don’t win this, I’ll be happy if you do.
I just arrived in Gatlinburg for the week and will be posting photos of our cabin soon. Just having some technical problems as I adjust to a laptop I haven’t used before. Wish me luck, you guys! -Julia
is it possible to get a blueprint layout of the green home?
love the layout from the pictures and everything else about the
home.
thanks
Dale–I didn’t see any, but you’d think they would have blueprints. Check HGTV.com. If you find any, let us know! -Julia
I pass this home twice a day on my way to Savannah, Ga.
The view is spectalor from 278. Will you be starting another home in any other state besides South Carolina maybe out west or the mid west. Love the things that you are doing to go green but my ideal Green Home would be in the mountains.
The setting is absolutely beautiful. I can see my self sitting on the front porch sipping wine now. Can you see me there.
The house is in Hardeeville SC not Hilton Head- I drive 278 each day- You can see the house from the road? I have to keep an eye out. I never see the house, just the Tradition towers.
Great decor- I just wish they will stop calling everything Hilton Head- It is two cities away-
Oh, that’s interesting! So it’s not actually in Hilton Head? Huh. Thanks, Dee! I love learning things like this from readers! -Julia
This house is fine just the way it is.I think they did a good job on this house. Hopefully I ´ll have a home of my own for my children to enjoy!!! I won´t mind if it looked just like this one!!! It is better then my 3 bedroom apartment!!!
Wonderful, wonderful work done by each of the contractors! My work keeps me so busy that I haven’t had time to even remember to enter the HGTV site daily. I’m hoping this doesn’t reduces my chances of winning this fabulous home. Ummm, it would be just perfect my retirement — especially the lower utilities expenses. I’m keeping my fingers crossed very tightly! To actually live in this home will be a dream come true for the winner.
Beautifulllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll!!!!!!!!!!!
Very well designed and maintained. I have never seen that creativity. Looking to see more n want to have a house like this.
I love all of the HGTV green home designs. I was just looking at the new design for the 2009 HGTV green home and it looks amazing!
It’s great that people are starting to understand the importance of taking care of their environment. It’s also great that in order to be “green” you don’t have to sacrifice quality (which is obvious from the pictures above).
I love your site I just found it.It’s alot of fun looking at all the super homes. I like some one else am looking for the blue prints for the green dream home 2008. If anyone knows any info let me know please.
What an awesome SC house. I really like the decor and enjoyed reading all the great comments. Thanks for the post.
