It’s been great having the kids home for the summer, but it’s also a challenge since I’m still working and trying to juggle everything. Add in some travel and visitors, and I feel like I’m always playing catch-up. Last night my daughter asked, “Do you want to watch the Teen Beach Movie with me or are you still too busy with work?” Mom guilt! (Cute movie, btw–love the sets!)
My point — and I do have one, ha — is that this kind of house looks like a great place to take a vacation and chill out a bit, something I could really go for right now. I love the friendly blue shutters and the romantic center courtyard, not to mention the “pool with pastoral views.”
Not only is this Spanish Colonial Revival home charming, it has pedigree. The Ford Estate was built by the architect Paul Revere Williams in the late 1920s for William Ford of the Libbey-Owens-Ford company.
The 16-room residence recently underwent an extensive four-year restoration.
Also known as La Collina Ranch, the estate was designated a Ventura County Cultural Heritage Landmark in 2010.
Aren’t these wood ceilings gorgeous?
The house is bigger than it looks with 8 bedrooms and 5 full baths.
I get almost giddy when I see an old bathroom like this that has its original colorful tile.
There are 5 fireplaces.
The house was built around a center courtyard with a “large tiered fountain that spills over into a rivulet leading to a small in-ground fountain.”
I love eating outside in the summer. With a courtyard like this — not to mention the California climate — I’d dine here every night!
The agent explains: “William Ford, Board Chairman and controlling stockholder of one the largest glass companies in the world, set his sights on the early California town of Ojai.”
“After purchasing land on a majestic viewing knoll in Country Club Estates, he selected famed architect to the stars Paul Revere Williams to design his Spanish-style center courtyard house and pool.”
“Located on a small cul-de-sac street, adjacent to the world class Ojai Valley Inn and Spa, the extremely private gated estate sits on 3 plus acres with mature oak trees and a working tangerine grove.”
Want it? It’s on the market for $8.95 million. For more photos and information, check the listing by Rob Johnson of Rodeo Real Estate. (Photography by Nick Springett.)
P.S. I had to laugh when I found this post in my Drafts folder today because I started it 3 weeks ago. I wasn’t kidding when I said I was having a tough time getting things done this summer! Ha. Now we’re getting ready for school to start. Always sad to see the summer go, but maybe I’ll finally get a little caught up on everything around here! 🙂
I have a thing for Spanish-style ranches like this. One of my faves was Meryl Streep’s in the movie It’s Complicated—you can see pics of it here:
