Number 1 is my favorite. Remove the kitchen wallpaper and everything else stays…I’ll just move in :) Best of luck to all sellers!

Love love love the last house in Illinois. That is a beauty! I love the full screen feature which made me feel like I was in the house. It is just gorgeous!!. Why are you selling? I couldn’t leave that one behind! The first house was really pretty. I especially love the english garden. I can’t figure out how the cherub was placed above the sink. It looks like it is flying. The decorating on these crop of homes is wonderful and tasteful. No deerheads or laundry piled up! Wonderful homes. Good luck to the sellers.

Boy, it is hard to choose! This feature of homes for sale, which I love, has really helped me to see what I truly do like. I always learn toward the older homes. I thing it’s because a lot of them sit on a nice mature piece of property which you don’t often get with new homes.
I favor the Tudor and the White Farm house in NY. The Tudor is a little dark inside for my taste, but the details are so beautiful. I love the land the farm house sits on, but it’s a little contemporary inside for me….but I’d take either one!

Oh so many original and interesting ones! Love the storybook, love the NY farmhouse….the Texas one is very cool inside…but strikes me as more spanish than tuscan. The last one is great too…..need to go look at the rest. You real estate maven you! Hey….have you ever found out that one sold because of your blog???

Gosh I love the storybook cottage in Portland! The vintage elements inside are charming and the decor is wonderfully unique. Faux thatched roof – very cute!

Oh wow! This might be your best group of readers’ homes yet. I LOVED the first one, but then I loved the second one, too!!! All of these are great homes. Good luck to the sellers!

Kudos to all on the decorating. The Portland house is my favorite-with the exception of the kitchen wallpaper!

I was immediately drawn to the 1890 NY farmhouse at the end of a long drive. Gorgeous.
But the interior…. Although the decorating is tasteful, etc., the somewhat sterile contemporary-home-decorating-magazine style clashes with the absolutely lovely exterior and country setting.
This house needs comfort, bookshelves filled with nice books, an inviting kitchen with some color on the walls (where are the old, original cupboards?)…
To make sure I wasn’t hasty in my initial reaction, I looked at the photos several times. I know it’s all a matter of taste, but why buy a lovely farmhouse and transform it to the point that only the shell remains?
Yes, it’s all nicely done… but what a missed opportunity… Sigh.

I agree with you — also too many rooms painted gray.

We all react to houses and their decorating in a personal way (what they reminds us of, what our dreams or personal aspirations are, etc.). This idea of refuge and respite that we expect to find in the one place we call home is a very emotional one. Mentioning something that we do (or don’t) like about a particular house is in no way a judgement or an attack about its owners.

…That said, my favorite is the English-style Cottage in Illinois; nice built-ins and wood detailing (the ceiling!!!).

Oh my farmhouse! This makes me want to pack up my family and move from San Francisco to New York. What a wonderful place to raise a family. We can’t even buy a studio for that price. Hmmmmm….

Wow. What a great set of houses for sale. Love the one in Portland, the farmhouse in NY and the last one (I’m partial to the English style). I do hope that they all get snapped up in a hurry.

I was drawn to the farmhouse, too, but the one that mesmerized me was the last one. Oh, I love that one. It just needs to be in a movie… what movie, I don’t know…

My favorite is the farmhouse in New York because it was bright and airy. The others were very dark, especially the first two houses. I love the open shelving in the farmhouse kitchen too.

The Tudor is darling, like everyone else who loves this house I would want to tear out the wallpaper in the kitchen and nook and I’d be ready to move in. I’d love to finish the backyard, too, in English garden style.
I also loved the New York farmhouse, it just needs someone to move in and change out the decor. That farmhouse doesn’t like that furniture. It’s making a scrunchy face at that furniture.
I also really loved the interiors on the Illinois stone cottage. I’m a sucker for all that wood paneling, and I love the huge kitchen sink and all the 1920′s details.
How about this: I will take the farmhouse exterior with the stone cottage interiors, and I will have the Tudor house as my guest cottage. Perfect, thank you.

Thank you, thank you, thank you Julia for featuring our homes on the market this week! I currently live in house #3 and have to confess that it’s not my favorite on the list, lol. So fun to see all the unique little decorating details everyone has from different parts of the country. Best of luck to each and everyone of you!

I guess everything is bigger in Texas. I wanted to love the Portland Tudor but I couldn’t see it on my iPad. So I am going with the new York farmhouse. Tons of potential there and a great price too.

My favorite is the Tudor and like everyone else, the wallpaper would need to go.

The farmhouse exterior is so charming, but the interior doesn’t go with it all. Someone needs to buy it and give it the original farmhouse charm.

ooh that farmhouse in NY is devine… I love a leafy entrance… and white is always a winner for me.

I’d take the cottage in Portland or in Illinois! Two adorable homes with lots of original character! LOVED the sink the in the home in Illinois and I loved all the leaded glass windows of the home in Portland!

O I want that Tudor.

I’d move into that last one for the kitchen sink alone! Thanks for the glimpse around the country today!

While I’m a fan of modern and especially mid century, I am instantly drawn to the 1890s farmhouse in NY. What a beauty! Ironically, the modernism of the interior is a complete turn-off. It looks like most of the integrity of the original was wiped away in favor of bland and sterile. A mix of old and new is great, but not when it’s this jarring. Love the exterior and the grounds!

I like the storybook home. It’s similar to homes I enjoy designing. The exterior is fun, and the interiors look very efficient and very much the cottagy style that the original storybook’s had. Almost similar to my grandparents home that was probably built in the 30′s.

Love the Tudor without that kitchen wallpaper and without that checked floor. I will take it. In my hometown, an over 3000 sq ft Tudor on an acre goes for $113K.

Zoe August 8, 2012 at 3:26 pm

I like them all. I would LOVE the farmhouse, but the decorating and the furniture are WAY too modern for that house, it is too bad.

Tiffany Gardner August 8, 2012 at 8:01 pm

Thank you so much Julia for including our home (as the first one no less)! Thank you all for the wonderful comments… and for those with the more modern sensibilities, we used a special adhesive on the wallpaper in the kitchen to insure very easy removal… but you’ll have a much harder time with the Anaglypta in the dining room ;) .

The other houses have some truly wonderful details. Thanks for such a great blog Julia!

I could weep about what you get for your money outside Northern California. I loved the old ones, especially. The last one was a real beauty.

Oh I love that farmhouse. I could move straight in, love how it’s furnished. Love the land and location. Great house.

Portland Tudor hits all the right notes: skintled brick and “thatched” roof.

The last house (in Illinois) is as close to my dream house as I’ll ever get, I think, except for the location. Everything else is just about perfect — it stirs me in a way that only 1920s houses can. Back then they didn’t skimp on windows (or charm). The garden has endless possibilities. All of the houses shown are nice in their own way but this one is the clear winner for me.

I have to ask – what’s up with the first one, the Portland cottage? The style goes from one extreme to another. I was going gaga over the first pictures, then the last few left me scratching my head. Looks like the poor little house has multiple personalities! But overall, I have to say that it’s amazingly dreamy. I also love the last one, and the exterior & property of the NY farmhouse. But, my taste is very traditional, don’t care for the farmhouse interior. All are beautiful homes & I wish quick & easy sale to all!

Thanks for all the wonderful comments on the Illinois house! :)

I submitted it; my parents live across the street. It has had the same owners (who have retired and are downsizing) for over 30 years, and they did all the restoration work themselves.

This is a truly one of a kind home, spread over 3 lots! You can see 294 (the tollway) from the end of the block, but you’d never know when you’re on the street itself – quiet, tree-lined, friendly. Easy access to O’Hare Airport (10 minutes away) and Chicago – really centrally located.

It is a one-block-long street with great mix of families that have lived there for decades + new families sprinkled in.

Really nicely priced for everything you get :)

This was always my dream house — I hope whoever buys it truly loves it and will keep it as it is.

Thanks so much for enjoying and sharing it!
