Over at Lookiloos, I read the story of this beautiful 1879 Italianate Victorian home in San Jose that was rescued and renovated by a man named Manuel Lima. What I found really inspiring was how he set out to improve the neighborhood it’s in, too. “A house doesn’t make it without a neighborhood,” he said. “I wasn’t going to move the house, so I had to make the neighborhood better.”
Go to Lookiloos to read the story of how Manuel has devoted the past three decades to restoring both this home and the neighborhood around it. And be sure to check out the slideshow of interior photos while you’re there. This is such an unusual home that it’s a tour you’ll want to take!
Come back tomorrow for my weekly Hooked on Fridays blog party! If you’re a blogger and want to participate, simply write a post about something you’re “hooked on” this week. I’ll have Mister Linky ready for you by 10:00 tonight (ET). See you then!

Oh, how dreamy…
the BLAH BLAH BLAHger’s last blog post..I’m a TOTAL freak!
Manuel’s Victorian isn’t too far off from the house that he loved and sketched when he was younger.
The interior isn’t my style, but I totally appreciate how Manuel dedicated so much of his life to fixing up and decorating his house the way he likes it
Good for him!!

There’s a lot of homes just like that where I grew up, and I know the owners are restoring them . I just love this style of home. Thanks for posting the picture Julia.
I don’t want to live with Victorian decor. But what a dignified beauty this is. I want houses that make me feel good as I pass. This one does it for me.

Love this. Thanks for sharing!
What a surprise…Thanks Julia. I had fun photographing this place. Manuel is so dedicated to this home and it shows.

Fantastic work, it just needs some color on the outside at least three but it could support five. I have always liked late Victorian/Edwardian interiors, but could only live in one if the help lived in also.
very cool…….that is amazing work on the inside.
