This week’s Fantasy Open House tour was so much fun! Thanks to all of you who so gamely participated in it. I think I’ll pick another town for us to tour again soon.
Here’s how things are looking in the polls at the moment:
- Rookwood house: the majority is undecided and wants to “Sleep on it.”
- Edwards house: the majority says “Walk away!”
- Observatory house: the majority says “Walk away!”
My, aren’t we picky with our pretend money? Clearly, we haven’t found anything we really want to spend it on yet. This is bad news for the homeowners who are hoping to get real money from someone. If you haven’t voted on all of these houses yet, don’t worry. The polls will remain active until the end of the month, and I’ll announce the final tallies then.
To thank you for playing along, I’m giving you a bonus Open House today. No voting necessary for this one, but feel free to leave your thoughts about it in the comments. I’m working day and night on a writing project right now, slaving away at the computer for long stretches at a time, and I love it when your comments “ping” into my inbox. So take pity on me and continue sending them!
This Tudor estate is in the same Hyde Park neighborhood as the others we looked at and is selling for $2.35 million. I had to show it to you if for no other reason than the “hammock room” (I think the MLS listing actually calls it a solarium).

There ya go!! Love it!
Now, where DID I put that 2.35 million I was hanging on to for a rainy day?
Ah, I am picky with my prentend money! So here I go again…
I’m just going to ignore the fact that I don’t like the tudor style and say that the house seems to be having a bit of an identity crisis. You’ve got very formal dark wood trim everywhere and the paneled room and the classic wine cellar and solarium. But then you’ve got a very modern kitchen, boring master bedroom and very modern master bath. I like modern elements in the proper setting but they really don’t work here. I love the fountain though
I wouldn’t buy this house because I just don’t like the style.
Interesting! The owners have very “spastic” taste though. They are all over the place. The hammock room was a trip. It kinda looked like the were storing their outdoor furniture for the winter. Not a well thought out design plan in site in this house. I predict it will be on the market a while.
I would buy it, but since JLB is my other half, let’s face it – he gets the real say here.
The “hammoc room” is really something else! I can’t even wrap my brain around having so much room!
Manuela
I would buy it for the library! My 6-year-old would buy it for the hammock room.
I like that you’ve been showcasing houses that are WAY out of my price range. It’s easy for me to get the idea in mind that if I just had X amount of money I could buy the “perfect” house.
But every one of these houses had something, at least one room, that really jarred me and would make me feel I needed to change it quickly before I’d be comfortable living there. It’s a good lesson for me that perfection or contentment aren’t necessarily always for sale.
With the exception of the master bedroom (booor-ing!!) it definitely looks like a house worth 7 figures. I totally agree that the owners / designers should have tried to stay more faithful to one period or look. I loved the first few pictures, and then gradually got more disappointed in the style. LOVE the solarium – what wasted potential with just a couple of big hammocks in there! Certainly eye-catching, but the hammocks would have to go for sure.
If money was no object, I might spring for this one. It had a lot going for it. Except I think I would have done something different in the solarium. I’m thinking tall trees and exotic flowering plants, not hammocks.
Now this one I”d buy…with my pretend money. I’d have to warm it up substantially but I love the character…the FLOORING – LOVE the flooring! the wood AND the tile in the bathroom – beautiful! The natural light, the arched doorways – good stuff. I would have to change out the lighting though (dated) and the walls are a little WHITE for my taste…i’d put seating in the kitchen area – and warm that room up substantially. not sure what I’d do w/ that hammock room….but again – cool flooring. This is fun! Thanks!
did they do porn shot here or something. looks like a house they would use for a porn movie. would i buy it. no. too big for me and it looks creepy. i like the rooms and everything. but i would have to physically walk threw before i would even think of buying. looks too creepy and pornish from my viewpoint right now.
