Welcome to Kay’s kitchen.
She sent me these photos and writes, “We just remodeled our kitchen last summer. I was inspired by the beach house in the movie Something’s Gotta Give, but I wanted a little more color, so I went with a soft green for the backsplash. It turned out to be just the look we were going for, and we love it!”
Take a look!
Thanks to Kay for sharing her kitchen with us!
Love that bookshelf too! I always wanted one.
Really really nice!! Absolutely love that soft green backsplash, it has a very nice vintagey yet modern feel to it. Well balanced kitchen, it really looks both classic and fresh, great job!
Julia, this is one of my favorite kitchens you’ve featured so far. It’s absolutely beautiful. I love the green tile back splash and the detail on the bottom of the cabinets.
The green tile is so pretty and I am in love with the large window over the sink. A lovely space.
The window above the sink, the green tile backslpash, the lower cabinets that look like furniture because of the detail on the bottom, the quaint shelving for cookbooks, I LOVE it all! Just lovely! Can I come over & make cookies in your homey kitchen? Pleeeeeeeeeease? 🙂
Love!!!!! So many favorite details!
(My only wish would be for more pictures…swoon. 🙂
I agree Maria, I would love more pictures too! 🙂 I love this kitchen and its a great balance, I love the book shelf in the island.
This is beautiful. That tile is a fantastic choice and those cupboards are exactly what I wanted but couldn’t afford. Love an inset door. Not one thing I can find fault with.
Loving this series on kitchens!! Thank you for sharing them all with us.
Shoot. I was going to use a simple white subway backsplash. Now, I’m reconsidering. Very nice, Kay!
Never saw that movie (not yet anyway) but your choice of colors is terrific. And that rug, I’d really love to have a rug like that.
The rug is by Dash and Albert and the color is stone soup.
That was a great movie house! This kitchen turned out great! 😉
Any idea what the countertops are? Quartz?
The countertops are Cambria quartz in a color called blackwood.
This kitchen is beyond GORGEOUS!!!
This is gorgeous! I love the green tile and the cubby shelf. Everything is just right . Thanks for a great post (and series) !
Love the backsplash tile! Can you share the manufacturer name?
I think it was Sonoma Tileworks.
Sorry. It’s Sonoma Tilemakers, and the color is papyrus.
Thanks!
Wow! I love this kitchen sooo much! I wish my mum had this kitchen, haha
I loooove the green tiles 🙂 I really love and respect that you show us your house Julia! So I don’t want to be rude by asking if we could see your kitchen!? I am sure it is beautiful like the rest of your house!
Thanks, Sam! I will show my kitchen eventually. It has just never felt “blog worthy” enough. But someday I’ll get to it! 🙂
Love your kitchen! Could you tell me what brand of cabinets this is?
They were custom cabinets made by Sweetwater Cabinets in Rohnert Park, CA.
This is such a homey and lovely kitchen. I love that Kay didn’t hide her things dish rack, letter holder) to stage the photos. I could picture myself baking with my daughters in this space. Just beautiful!
I love these kitchen contests! Would love to see your kitchen as well though! And really wonder what your house looks like at the front, seeing it is so nice inside! 🙂
Thanks, John. It’s a pretty average suburban house. The exterior has red brick, a front porch, and shutters. Nothing really exciting, I’m afraid, but nice enough. 🙂
No problem, your house sounds beautiful Julia! Front porch and shutters, sounds great. Houses like that usually show a lot more character than big mansions and modern designs. 🙂
I want this kitchen to win the whole contest!
Kay – we just had black quartz counters installed in our kitchen. Do you have problems with cloudy spots and residue on your surface? The installation company is telling us that black shows these things more, but I don’t buy it with a countertop that is supposed to be non-porous. So far the only thing that seems to get residue off is soft scrub with bleach and a rough scouring pad. Just doesn’t seem right to have to work this hard for countertops this expensive! BTW…just love your kitchen…so beautiful!
Hi Allie- Yes, we do get hazy looking water spots. Our water has a lot of calcium so we try not to leave puddles of it on our counter and dry it up right away. The soft scrub works well, and we also use a cleaner for stone called SCI Clean Encounters from Home Depot which we like quite a bit. It cleans and degreases really well. Thanks for the nice compliment!
Thanks Kay! I kind of wish they would have educated us about that before purchase, but I suppose it’s just something we’ll have to get used to.
