For Sale: The London House from “The Parent Trap” Movie

by hookedonhouses on May 30, 2010

parent-trap-DVD-coverWho could forget the fabulous London house featured in the 1998 version of Disney’s The Parent Trap? That was where the twins’ mother Elizabeth (Natasha Richardson) lived with Annie (Lindsay Lohan). It was built in the 1840s in the heart of central London. Here’s how it looked in the movie:

Now it’s for sale for £14 million. Here’s how it looks today:

The Real Parent Trap house-London

The interior for the movie was created on a soundstage and looked like this:

You can see more photos from the house in the movie in this post.

The real interiors are much more contemporary and more, well, white:

Wow, it’s really pretty!! I love the overly white palette! That bathroom is to die for, and I love the dining room as well. You can’t go wrong with lots of white in my opinion!

I’m not in love with the bathroom but it is nice. Not only do I hate the white in the kitchen, I think the use of space is just bad. The room looks like they had a huge space and were like, “well, I guess this can be the kitchen – throw some cabinets and counters along the outer walls.” I think an island (and a rather large island could fit) would look amazing and make the room look a whole lot better. I like the window in the kitchen though… lol

Wow, I don’t like the original house at all. It’s too white and contemporary. It’s too bad the “Parent Trap” house isn’t real.

This house is beautiful!! I love the way it looks now! :-)

I like all of the windows, particularly the large one over the kitchen sink. :)

STUNNING!! I normally hate modern interiors but this is absolutely gorgeous. Very tastefully done in my opinion. And you can’t beat the Knightsbridge location–my very favorite part of London. There was once a lovely old semi-faded B&B on Egerton Terrace where we spent a bit of our honeymoon, actually…not sure if it’s still there.

I love white, but I think it’s so white it’s cold! Doesn’t look like someplace I would want to be during any kind of a storm or much else.

I love the napa valley home.

I’d rather have the house with the yellow door from the previous post! The inside of that one is fabulous! Have a great Memorial Day!

i LOVED this post. I remember that apartment well, as I have seen the movie a zillion times!!! Back when Lilo was a cutie… so sad. That apartment is even more pretty now than it was in the movie. I am dying over that bathroom.

First, I have really enjoyed your blog. Lots of fun and interesting pictures, stories and information. Thanks!

As to today’s house…I much prefer the staged version. No wonder set directors get paid big bucks for their craft.

The actual version strikes me as sterile and uninviting.

Not a white fan, but I actually like this. So bright and airy. The outside is gorgeous:)

Oh fun post!

Hmm…kind of looking like hospital old school. The set designers/decorators for the Parent Trap have better taste!

Thank you for posting!

Whoa! A little too white for me, but otherwise, freakin’ gorgeous!

Kate (Little Beach Bum) June 1, 2010 at 7:51 am

I agree with sbean about it being sterile and uninviting. I think a lot of modern designs are pretty and artistic and interesting…but when it comes down to it, I can’t imagine actually living in it! I always try to picture if I could see myself sprawled on the sofa reading a book, or picture children crawling around on the floor – and if I can’t picture the house being actually lived in then what is the point of the decor? It’s like a house museum…haha. I sure wouldn’t want my kids growing up there. The real-life version of this house makes a great showroom…but how cold. :/

I would be thrilled own a house like that in London. First order of business would be to add some color!

I liked the way the house looked as it was portrayed in the movie. Way to stark and white.

Barbara June 1, 2010 at 9:42 am

Oh, a bit disappointing–I do love the soundstage home much better. For me, the white to too stark, and it wouldn’t work well with a black Labrador Retriever!

Mrs. R June 1, 2010 at 12:48 pm

What a beautiful home! I would definitely have to add more color!! LOL!

Just discovered your lovely blog,
Little comment on your last post.
The outside of the house is stunning, but the interior is sooooooooooooo bland, I am usually a big fan of white on white, but not with such a beautifully old property. You would expect it to be full of charm, beautiful antiques and lots of history. It just looks as thou a developer has got hold of it. It could be the interior of a new build. Such a shame, so sad. I’m sure the interior would look fab in a different property but certainly not this one
Look forward to reading many more of your super post’s

Things That Inspire June 2, 2010 at 7:19 pm

So funny to read this post right now…as my 7 year old is watching the Parent Trap as I type this!

This is absolutely one of the best locations in London – a quiet dead end street, near Walton Street in Knightsbridge. I can’t wait until my next trip to London, I will definitely have to check this house out!
