My Favorite Paint Colors

by hookedonhouses on June 4, 2009

Melissa at 320 Sycamore is hosting a “My Favorite Paint Color” party today. I think that’s a great idea, because aren’t we all searching for good paint colors to try?

Paint colors are always tricky for me. I’ll like something one day, only to hate it enough the next day to want to paint something new. I guess you could say I’m fickle. But here are a few that have really worked for me:

!

Eddie Bauer’s Pecan:

I had a lighter shade in my family room first, but I wanted something a little darker to make the new crown moldings and trims stand out after my husband finished installing them. This is a warm shade that has been easy to live with, but it definitely looks different in different light. I painted the powder room the same shade, but it looks much lighter in there. You can see more about the family room makeover in the post I did about it here.

~

Eddie Bauer’s Seaside:

I recently painted my study this cool blue to lighten things up in here a little. I have very little wall space because it’s so tiny, and this is the biggest expanse I could find to show you. It also looks a little washed-out in this photo, I’m afraid, but I guess you get the idea. To see more of this room, visit my post about the makeover here.

~

Martha Stewart’s Buttercream:

We painted our daughter Lily’s room this pale shade of yellow. It doesn’t look quite this “golden” in real life. Here’s a close-up shot that might give a better idea of how light the color actually is:

Now hop on over to Melissa’s place to see what paint colors everyone else is recommending today! I, for one, am taking notes.

Just a reminder that tomorrow is Hooked on Fridays, a blog party I host each week to celebrate the things that make us happy. If you want to participate, simply write a post on your blog about something you’re “hooked on.” I’ll have Mr. Linky up and ready to go by 10:00 tonight (ET) so you can add your permalink to it. See you then!

Julia~thanks so much for joining the party today. Your family room is one of my all-time favorites. I have it in my inspiration file for something I’d like to duplicate one day. Thank you for sharing the name of the color! The buttercream may be the perfect pale yellow I need for my girls’ room~I’ll have to try it out. Have a great day~

Oh and P.S.! I can’t believe the little fiasco with the crazy color mansion!

I have such a hard time with paint. I know it’s the easiest way to change up walls, but for years I just kept them white…I know…horrible. Now, I’m on to it. :)

You’ve got some really nice colors too, Julia! I know, aren’t those blues hard to photograph? They just don’t look the same in pics. Paint is such an easy way to transform a room.

Your daughter’s room is such a pretty color! The light does make a big difference on the way it looks. I usually don’t remember the names of the colors I use.

Some of my favourite colours are Nunavut (Sico), Windham (Pratt & Lambert), Raspberry Truffle (Benjamin Moore), Purple Granite and Veil (ICI), Toffee Crunch and Corn Husk Green (Behr), and Manta Gray (Debbie Travis).

We have all those colours in our house, and more!!

Great idea for a par-tay! My favorite paint color in the shore house is Ben Moore’s Patriotic White. It looks quite a bit like your EB Seaside. It’s got green and blue tones that make the color look different depending on the time of day and lighting. So it’s like getting many paint colors for the price of one! :-)

For some reason I’m loving that first one. Reminds me of candy. We recently had our whole house painted. Some rooms are yellow, some are a brownish color, some are green. And one, the one I’m sitting in, is blue like the sky. I’m a color gal.

Thanks especially for the Eddie Bauer Pecan, I’m going to look out for that. One day in the distant future when we repaint our lounge/dining room/stairs area, I’d love a shade like that.

I really like the color you used in your living room. My LR/DR is Behr’s Carribean Coral, a rich terra cotta orange that makes it very cozy, although I sometimes yearn to paint it something lighter and brighter. My half bath is a very dark chocolate brown, and my living room is a gorgeous light beige, the color of coffee with a lot of milk. Its very soothing, I love my bedroom! I mostly love my bed, if I could drive it I would!

I love your living room – great job!

That color looks like the same one we have in our family room, hallways, foyer and bedrooms. It’s a lovely shade and contrasts nicely with white trim and white doors.

Very nice colors. They are soothing and warm. Sometimes its tempting to use dark trendy colors, but that looks best in a magazine and not in “real life”
