A House Tour & Some Blog News

by hookedonhouses on September 24, 2008

Remember when I asked where you thought we should go for our next Fantasy Open House series?

Well, you gave me tons of good ideas and some great links to try. Thank you! Now I have a long list of places to visit (virtually) in the months ahead.

Soon after I took that poll, I was told about a village near me that was hosting a walking tour of old houses. I went last weekend and had the time of my life. These homes had so much charm and history. I’ll be taking you on a tour of those houses when I get back from my trip. I think you’re gonna love ‘em!

I walked past this house during the tour and actually gasped when I saw the enormous front porch. Dave had to stop me from running towards it. Luckily it’s for sale, so I was able to look it up on the real estate listings and see the interior photos.

After the shock of that zig-zag foil wallpaper and blue “shower pod” in yesterday’s post, I figure owe you something pretty to look at. Take a look!

Breakfast nook:

Butler’s pantry:

The house is lovely but what I’m really swooning over are the patios and porches. The landscaping was beautiful! You can see the entire MLS listing here.

In other exciting news, I’ve been invited to attend the Indianapolis Home-a-Rama this week and cover it here on the blog. You know how I love a good Home-a-Rama!

And the timing is perfect. As I mentioned before, I’m speaking to some students at Anderson University this week about freelance writing. It’s in Anderson, Indiana, so when I’m done there it’ll be an easy drive to Indianapolis for Home-a-Rama.

All of this is to say–lucky you, you’ve got two Fantasy Open House Tours to look forward to in the weeks to come. Not to mention the others I’ve been researching thanks to all of your suggestions. I can hardly wait!

See you when I get back!

Thanks for the tour. My favorite parts are the outdoor rooms!

Hi Julia

This house is spectacular! The butler’s pantry is larger than my kitchen –how I would love all that space! Those porches and landscaping were so lovely

Looking forward to the Home-A-Rama and the Fantasy Home Tour!

Good luck at Anderson University!

What a gorgeous home, I love the garden it’s just beautiful. They just don’t build houses like that here in the UK - such a shame! Have fun on your trip :))
Cheers!

Oh boy….I’m with ya on those outdoor spaces. Swoon worthy, indeed!

Congrats on your homearama and speaking engagement!! Cool Beans!

6 Julie 09.24.08 at 7:32 am

Now I’m in major lust. Thanks a lot. I hate the decor, but oh man, the bones and the outdoor spaces….Love ‘em!

7 Heather 09.24.08 at 7:39 am

Your right the porch was to die for! My favorite was the kitchen.

8 katie102006 09.24.08 at 7:44 am

::jaw hitting desk:::

That porch and the outdoor seating is TO DIE FOR!

9 REAGAN 09.24.08 at 8:25 am

Attending those home shows is so fun isn’t it? I can’t believe how much furniture is on the porch! That’s a lot of outdoor living space…

Also, I am always amazed at how many photos there are on your MLS listings. The ones I look at don’t normally have that many.

Now that I think about it, I am usually looking at ones that are way cheap and they don’t want to show too much or no one will come look at it….So nevermind :)

Love that porch, love that porch! And the butler’s pantry, too…and that green in their cabinets in the living room? That’s the green I want for my kitchen, although w/all of the suggestions to go lighter, it probably won’t be that dark.

CONGRATULATIONS on the freelance job for the Indiana show. Where will you be in IN? I’ve spent time in and around Kokomo, IN..yes, there really *is* a Kokomo ;) Cannot believe the home prices in that area, so much lower than SE MI. Kind of strange layout in the town though…you can have a brand new subdivision, then a gas station in a residential area, then a park, then a slum, the more grand homes…talk about a modge-podge…but I kind of liked it that way, although I would not want to live next to the gas station or have the railroad tracks in my backyard…seriously…saw that there…

Have a wonderful trip :)

It’s very nice but it looks way too big or not fully furnished at least. Just not very welcoming -just my little opinion!

12 Amy from Texas 09.24.08 at 8:34 am

The outside is amazing. Have fun on your trip! How exciting!!

13 sandra/tx 09.24.08 at 9:15 am

I love that white kitchen, Julia. The whole house is very pretty.

You’re getting to be such a busy blogger! Congratulations!

14 maya 09.24.08 at 9:39 am

the butler’s pantry? ::faint::

15 duchess 09.24.08 at 9:44 am

I just love the house tours and this one is great.
I’m with you on the porches & outside spaces. I’d spend all of my time out there, although that family room is kind of nice.

Have a great trip.

16 Nell 09.24.08 at 10:39 am

So lovely. I dream of porches like that…

17 Laura @ the shorehouse. 09.24.08 at 11:03 am

We are lucky indeed! ;-) I’m loving that white “picket” fence…so different. I think I need to file that one away.

P.S. Thought last night was Wednesday so rushed home to watch Design Star. Oy. I need to take a vacation or something.

18 Bettsi 09.24.08 at 11:04 am

This goes to tell just how traditional I am. I liked the interiors! They were a little sparse because the rooms are so big, but they just seem so tasteful and comfortable to me. In fact, if someone forced me to live in a mansion, this would be my pick! I love the spring green in the sitting room- very fresh and pretty. And yes, the outside spaces are amazing! Especially the porch with all the lovely wicker on it.

19 Slowish Food 09.24.08 at 11:07 am

How fun that you’re going to AU! I went there a couple times to talk with the English majors, and it was really fun remembering being in college and having the whole world in front of me! Visit Morrison Hall for me, okay? I was always on a crazy-tight schedule.

It’s pathetic that I have to read about the Indy Home-a-rama in your blog rather than, you know, being aware that it’s here in town. :) Maybe I’ll try to hit it. If I don’t, I’ll look forward to your posts about it!

20 Kathy :) 09.24.08 at 11:39 am

Hi there,

I have to jump on board with everyone else love the pantry and THOSE outdoor spaces are to die for. I really like the fencing too !!!

Thanks Julia, this was a treat :)

and the fireplaces!!

22 Angela 09.24.08 at 1:47 pm

Holy Macaroni - that house is PHENOMINAL!!!

23 Billy 09.24.08 at 3:17 pm

Do the seller’s own hotels? It all looks like hospitality industry decoration. Thank goodness the house isn’t being sold furnished, because it is a future treasure.

24 Debbie 09.24.08 at 3:24 pm

Always love a good house tour! You seem to find the most wonderful homes, I love it!
Blessings,
Debbie

25 Jenny from Mommin' It Up! 09.24.08 at 4:37 pm

I love old houses! Thinking on taking a tour of a historic district near me this weekend. You have inspired me to try and do it!

26 courtney @ nesting instincts 09.24.08 at 4:45 pm

beautiful pics. That butler’s pantry puts my whole kitchen to shame! love the landscaping too. congrats on going to the Homearama and good luck at Anderson. (I used to go to a Church of God and I know it’s like mecca for COG folks, so even though I haven’t been there, I feel like I know it. :-) )

27 hookedonhouses 09.24.08 at 4:49 pm

That’s right, Courtney! You get bonus points for knowing that. I usually get blank stares when I tell people I went to Anderson University. They’ve never heard of it. I loved it there and keep hoping someday Lily will want to go there, too. -Julia :-)

28 Leanne 09.24.08 at 6:35 pm

What an awesome porch - I love it! Congratulations on all the stuff you’re getting to do - how fun to get to write about something you love! :)

32 Robin 09.24.08 at 10:03 pm

The outdoor living space on this house is fantastic, and it is very nicely decorated. I would use more color, but it is probably staged for a good sale. I’m afraid to look at the price.

And hooray for Home-A-Rama!

33 deserae 09.24.08 at 10:18 pm

Loved the house tour….such a beautiful house! Congratulations on the Homearama too!

You are right, the house is lovely, but it is the outside spaces that are to die for gorgeous. The colors and the plant choices, sublime!

37 Ramona Owen 09.25.08 at 11:10 am

Congratulations on your invitations…you rock. I love the way the sun is streaming into the breakfast nook…and, like everyone else, I love the butler’s pantry…I would put a chair in there and stay all day and then some.

Thank you for the tour.

Smiles ~ Ramona

41 Darla 09.25.08 at 3:46 pm

~sigh~ i am such a sucker for a butler’s pantry.

42 Angela 09.25.08 at 5:41 pm

Okay, that is SO my dream house! Although it is priced just a bit over my budget…
Thanks for sharing it with us.

43 Katie 09.26.08 at 11:03 am

The outdoor space is awesome. Oh if money was never a problem… Beautiful. It got a little busy inside with a lot of paterns but some of the furniture was pretty.

44 Norma 09.26.08 at 8:11 pm

Hi Julia, thanks for showing us this beautiful home, I wonder how old it is, it doesn’t say in the listing. My favorite part was also the outside too, looks like the front yard faces north with all those hosta plants along the sidewalk.

45 Kimba @ A Soft Place to Land 09.26.08 at 10:06 pm

Oh my goodness! That porch is too fabulous! It puts other porches to shame.

Can’t wait for your next house tour.

46 rue 09.27.08 at 5:10 pm

Thank you Julia… this really made up for the last post. GORGEOUS! :)

47 Sue 09.30.08 at 12:56 pm

The outdoor spaces are perfection personified! : )

This is a gorgeous home!

48 Cathy 12.21.08 at 12:34 pm

I the outside but I don’t care for the inside decor..IDK maybe it’s just me.

49 Donette 01.10.09 at 12:48 pm

This is a beautiful house! I am currently working on designing a home for my family, and was wondering if you have any more information on this house. I clicked on the MLS listing link, and it didn’t work. Maybe the house has been sold?:( Do you have an address? Thanks for your help. I love your site!!

50 hookedonhouses 01.10.09 at 12:52 pm

Donette–
Sorry, it must’ve sold already. It’s in Terrace Park, Ohio, but I don’t remember the address, I’m afraid. -Julia
