Did you know that the Cincinnati Homearama is considered one of the Top 5 home shows in the entire country? People come from all over to see it every summer. They were expecting upwards of 90,000 visitors this year. Aren’t you glad you get to look at these houses without having to push your way through all those other people?
The 2008 show, which ran for the past two weeks and just ended, took place in Deerfield Township’s “Long Cove” neighborhood, the site of several Homearamas in the past. A beautiful waterway runs behind many of the homes, including this one.
This house is called “The Sanctuary” and was built by Marino Homes. The 6,900 square-foot ranch-style home is on the market for $1.84 million.
According to the builder, “The Sanctuary combines the stately features of a Southern Plantation Home with the casual elegance of South Carolina’s coastal living.” Sounds good to me. Let’s start the tour!
What do you think? What were your favorite things?
Lynn says
Very nice. Love the Master Bath.
Aubrey says
I liked it and should have voted to sleep on it, rather than walk away, but I sure didn’t love it. The angles were all wrong for me and I didn’t like the feel of it. But, wood floors and vaulted ceilings and columns are always good.
CC says
OH MY GOSH! That kitchen!!! Those barstools and light fixtures! So much to love in that house. Drool factor 10+!!! 🙂
Chris says
It is a beautiful house. I also love the barrel-vault ceilings (all the ceiling actually) and the master bath windows are wonderful!
I’d have to change the fountain outside to something more classic. For me, the one they chose just didn’t do the home justice!
Thanks for the tour! Can’t wait to see the rest.
Meredith says
I’ll walk away and leave this for someone else. My favorite thing was the Master Bath windows, and I like the mirror in the Powder Room. Otherwise, it gave me an uncomfortable feeling. I really didn’t even like the kitchen. And you said the Master Bedroom window looks out to the water. What water? Do you mean that odd looking fountain thing in the front yard, or is there a significant water view?
Jessica says
I loved it. I loved the kitchen. I loved the bath with the beautiful windows. I loved the window seat. I loved the ceilings. Love love love.
Tori says
I vote buy it. I just love the way that they did the curtains in
the house. With arched windows people tend to do curtains
that are straight across, but this house has unique curtains
(unique in a good way). Over all I like how the house is put together.
hookedonhouses says
Meredith–this neighborhood is sitting on a “cove” of water (the neighborhood is called “Long Cove”). I just looked back through the photos and see that I didn’t take a single photo of it from this house (I took quite a few from the others that you’ll see later). If you squint hard, you can see that there’s water beyond the master bedroom window (okay, squint REALLY hard). Go back to my original Homearama! post and you’ll see the the water I’m talking about! Sorry for the shoddy reporting, folks. -Julia

Okay, sign me up! Love the mirror in the powder room!
Can’t wait to see the next one!!

I like the entry door, so pretty. I really like the dining room, but I HATE how they did the window treatments….what’s up with the halfway up slanted nonsense? I also like the little alcove sitting bench thingy. But would anyone really use it? Would have liked it more if it had more and longer windows around it. What is up with that horrible dark powder room? I don’t like the lack of bedding (I know it has it….it just looks like it doesn’t) on the bed. LOVE the master bedroom window sitting area, and that bathroom is divine. I really like the kitchen, and the ceilings throughout the house are fantastic. I’m not crazy about a lot of the artwork, and I think that the beds look like couches cut in half. Yuck. I might actually kill for that mudroom though. 🙂
Pat says
I voted to sleep on it. Not crazy about it. I can’t put my finger on the exact reason. Just didn’t feel like “home” to me. I do love all the millwork! Fabulous!

Bonnie says
I liked the dining room chairs, the barrel vaulted ceiling and the headboard in the guest room. The fireplace and the tv seem to compete with each other in the hearth room. This house is too big to actually feel much like a home.
Kathy :) says
I am going to walk away, it just did not speak to me kinda, dark and a little on the dreary side. But before I walk, I would like a bubble bath in the tub…loved the tub.
This is fun Julia.
Kathy 🙂

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Just yesteday I was looking up at my ceiling and wanted more than that average ceiling white. I have nice crown molding and it just doesnt pop beacuse of the color. Im going to copy cat and paint mine that awesome blue. You wouldnt happen to know the color by any chance? Im so exicited cause you gave me my nest project. cant wait to show you when Im done! can you hear me smiling now? Now just to figure out the color… Susie H~
DaK says
Is it just me or did they use a GIANT foyer light over the eat-in kitchen table?
Angela says
Love the ceilings.
For some reason, that guest bed headboard/wing chair creeps me out. I guess I have issues.
Christine says
I like the paint color of the guest bedroom. I, too visited Homearama. The pond with the boulder fountain was pretty cool. This house was not my very favorite, but I liked some of the colors on the walls and ceilings. Julia, do you have the name of the paint colors for these homes? I got a few but not all. I remember asking about the paint colors at these homes and believe it or not, it is a “gray” color scheme! I kept saying “blue” because it looks like blue, but apparently it is not.
Amy Jo Trager says
I LOVE IT! I’ll buy it! The ceilings in this house are amazing. Great details.
hookedonhouses says
Christine–I didn’t get any paint colors. I was too busy taking pictures, I guess! I never would’ve called this a gray color scheme. Like you, I thought it was blue. Interesting!
Angela–these beds are “all the rage” now, as they say. We saw lots of them. Sorry they’re creeping you out. Ha. -J
Mamacita says
Wow – lots of neutrals! But then again, I like neutrals, so I liked that part. I wasn’t crazy about those bottles hanging over the bed in the guest bedroom – I thought that looked weird. And like some others said, the huge light over the eat-in kitchen table is really “off”, and the odd window treatments – I don’t get them. But I thought the rest of the house and the decor was lovely. 🙂
jennifer says
I voted buy it.
Overall it is a beautiful home, and I loved the palette. I love the punch of black in the kitchen area with all the other neutrals. Not crazy about the tub, the “window” seat needs much more of a window, dislike the large pendant over the eating area. But the master bedroom, kitchen and great rom make up for it..and love, love the mudroom.
should one buy a house just for the mudroom? I say yes!
Kelli says
Actually, I loved the idea of the chair/loveseat that makes into a bed. I plan to have that in my next house, if we can’t get enough bedrooms. I also liked the molding in the master bedroom with the woven wallpaper. It looks very classy but cozy, at the same time. Thanks for going to all the trouble with this!
Diana says
Wow – crazy – that many visitors?! Thanks for the look around!
Amy says
I voted to sleep on it. I really do like the house but there are just a few things that might make me walk away. 1. The type of stone they used on the fireplace in the living area next to the kitchen- hate it. 2. The big outdoor looking lights they used in the kitchen and eat in area- it’s not a big thing but I don’t like them. 3. I like the freestanding tub but there’s no place to put a drink. If I’m going to soak in a tub like that I might like to have a place to set a drink or some candles. Plus my hubby hates tubs like that. 4. The exterior isn’t my fave.
It’s a beautiful home and the millwork is incredible. It makes the nitpicky stuff seem, well, nitpicky. But it’s my pretend millions and I’d have to think about this one. 🙂
Laura says
What a boring waste of $1.84 million! I voted to walk away.
CC — the barstools (and kitchen table and chairs) are from a company called Woodland — great quality and finishes, but quite pricy. Another company, Old Biscayne makes a very similar chair (but no barstool) at a more affordable price. Just thought you might interested.
Mrs.Limestone says
Based on the exterior, I expected to hate this house. It just lacks any unified the style to me. The inside is better but its all a little too much – too much big furniture, too many pieces of plastic molding, etc.. It doesn’t feel like a real home.
Not to be bitchy because its a perfectly lovely house – its just not me.
Can’t wait to see what you have coming up.
Jen says
I voted to buy it. I really don’t like the exterior at all, but the interior did it for me. If I have all that money to play with, the interior is enough for me. I love the millwork, light fixtures and the ceilings! I’ve never seen so many neat ceilings in one house. Keep up the fun tours! 🙂
Beth says
I LOVED the barrel ceiling and what they did with the clock / mirror in the powder room – so clever to connect them with a chain and make it look like a huge pendulum! The master bath windows were perfect – just enough detail to be beautiful, but still very restful. I love the attention to detail with all the mouldings and detail on the walls, too. Some of it was a little too large scale for my personal taste, but it definitely provided some inspiration!
Kristen Olsen says
Loved the kitchen, master bath windows and the MUD ROOM!!! I did also like the mirror in the powder room.
But if my favorite part of the house is a mud room , that is a problem. I think the ceilings felt too heavy.
Not that impressive for the price, just seemed like a lot of big things for a big price to me.
Christine says
I have found the information on the paint colors for this home (I did attend Homearama when it opened) and a few other homes that I will post as they come.

I love the tray ceiling in the dining room and the rounded ceiling in the bedroom.
I vote to wait to see the others….

I love anything with “Sanctuary’ in it 😉 Jen r
Jana says
Loved the ceilings and all, but why do the bedrooms have hide-a-beds in them? Did they run out of money? ;p
Leigh Ann says
I beyond love this house. Since I live in SC, a Southern Plantation with a South Carolina Coastal living flair appeals to me. I love the mouldings, the ceilings, the paint colors, the window treatments, the master bathtub, the cool beds and the sink & mirror combo in the powder room. I didn’t care for the stone choice in the hearth room or the windows in the master bath. Other than that, BUY IT!!
Kellye says
I think that the only thing I really loved in this house was the tub. I’m not sure that they’re all that comfortable and I’m not even a big bath girl, but they sure are pretty. 😉
Somehow, I think barrel ceilings look strange if they’re not done in brick.
rue says
It was just so-so. Pretty, but too “new” for me. I’m so over the huge lantern over the table look. I did like the mudroom though, but I would still walk away.

I really liked this house. I would definitely buy it, but I would make some changes. I liked the tub in the master but it didn’t seem big enough for the space it was actually in. I would also change the light fixtures in the kitchen and eat in area. They were WAY too big for me!
Summer Kitchen Interiors says
Like the front doors, the seating area in the Master bedroom & Master bath windows… hate the dining room curtains!

Melinda says
Love the master bath and the windows … ah that tub and a glass of wine !
Nathan says
I love everything but the kitchen and area off of the kitchen. It seems much to crowded with the kitchen cabinetry, turning into the entertainment unit, running into the fireplace.
Kim says
Could someone please verify the color Copper Kiss as Porter Paints is telling me # 418-5 is Coffee Kiss. I love the color in the photo’s and would like feedback from anyone that saw this house- would you consider the color in the brown family and is it dark?
hookedonhouses says
Kim–
Oh, wow, I toured that house over a year ago, so I really don’t remember. It definitely looks like some of these walls have a lot of brown in the paint color, though. Good luck! -Julia
