Fall Decorating Party: Link Up!

by hookedonhouses on September 30, 2011

Come on in! I’ve been slowly taking down all of the “summer stuff” in my house and redecorating for fall. Every year I do a little less, and if you’ve been reading my blog for long, then you know I’ve always kept things pretty simple.

I like the seasons to be represented in some way throughout the year, though, so starting in September I bring out the orange pillows and throws, a few mercury glass pumpkins and gnarly yellow gourds, and I start feeling a little better about leaving summer behind…

I’m always rearranging my mantel and playing with the stuff on it. Here’s how it looks today, with some of my orange pottery and a few little pumpkins. (Layla’s having a mantel decorating party at The Lettered Cottage if you need more inspiration for yours!)

Can you tell I like symmetry? Is that the sign of a total control freak? (You don’t have to answer that!)

The little sugar and creamer set on my turquoise chest (above) are old family heirlooms brought over from Germany by my husband’s great grandparents. Love ‘em.

So that’s how things are looking around here these days. I’m (almost) ready for cooler weather now.

Now it’s your turn to show us how you celebrate autumn around your house! Enter the permalink to your post below:

Beautiful! I will definitely steal this idea for my future home, Julia. I love being themed so this idea suits me perfectly… Is it terrible to admit that yours is one of the few houses I do not need to mentally rearrange everything symmetrically?! Just kidding… Lol.

Thanks Julia for hosting this fab Fall party! I am loving that chest in your dining room – the color is gorgeous. I know you mentioned it’s an heirloom, but is that the color it’s always been or did you refinish it in that color? I have a desk that is in desperate need to make over, but haven’t been able to decide on a color, but NOW I think I have my inspiration! Thanks!!

Happy Fall!

Julia, your living room is lovely. You’ve added just the right warm touches for Fall. Love your color scheme, too, and the drapes. I’m trying to break away from my symmetry phase (for a while), but it’s not easy! Thanks for sharing and hosting. :)

Your home always looks gorgeous! I love every little detail especially those mercury Pumpkins!

I have linked up a Fall post featuring some of my favourite pinterest pins. It is Spring here in Australia so I have nothing Autumnal in my home at the moment!

Best wishes,
Natasha.

LOVE the orange- it looks fantastic with your wall color in the living room. Do you happen to know what color that is? I went for a similar color in my living room, though think mine might be a litte too subtle- your white moldings pop much better :)

This makes me want to curl up on the sofa with a good book and cup of hot cider!

Julia, your home looks beautiful in any season! I’ll bet you’re really reluctant to leave summer behind this year, when I know you’ve enjoyed your new sunroom so much.

When we lived in Michigan, I absolutely LOVED the autumn, but it was hard to let summer go. One way I comforted myself was by remembering all the books I’d read when I was growing up–it seems that every single one of those books was set in a climate with long, snowy winters. I would tell myself that our climate in Michigan put me in more of a storybook setting than anywhere else I’d ever lived. :) Of course, I was only in my 20′s and early 30′s at the time. Perhaps I was a tad naive.

Anyway, thank you so much for hosting this party! I always enjoy your seasonal house tours. Have a great weekend!

Your fall decorations are great! I love that your decorations are accent pieces instead of screaming for attention in the room. (No gaudy stuffed Jack-o-Lantern with arms and legs here!)

I love Fall, but I live in Southern Calif. no Fall leaves here. For those readers in California, Armstrong Garden Centers is selling a “Box of Pumpkins” (all kinds of unusual varieties, all sizes 10 for $39.99) as a fund raiser for Boy’s Republic, a school for at risk kids. Shop fast, they probably will be as popular as their Della Robbia wreathes.

Hi control freak. :) . I can say that because I am slowly realizing with horror that I may also share that trait. What a weird moment that was. I am working very hard at improving myself, though. There are some positives to being a “control freak”, in my opinion. I believe we strive for excellence in all we do, including family, job,and our homes ( of course). For me the key is balance. You notice I said excellence, not perfection! Anyway, I love your lovely, simple, peaceful and cozy home for fall–looks like a happy family lives there!

?-chuckle- Me too. I tend to symmetry, with my mantle stuff. :-)

Ohhhhhhhhhhh those pumpkins on your dining table!!! Oh sigh… Some kind of “glass.” Never can remember… Mercury glass maybe? Beeeeeeeeeutiful anyway.

Btw, I am “Aunt Amelia,” but using an old Blogger blog, while not fully into “Pretty Blog Land” for a while. Taking a wee break… :-)

I am totally the opposite! I never arrange by symmetry, or hardly ever- – to me its always about balance and weight. And that has everything to do with personal taste, and nothing to do with what is “right”or wrong…

wow- I almost missed your party! I’ve been late getting out my fall decor this year. Last year, it had already been up for a month! LOL Your own fall decorating looks so serene and pretty. Sure do like those mercury glass look pumpkins on the table. There is beauty and comfort in symmetry, although lately, I’ve been moving away from it. It’s a hard change, let me tell ya! Thanks for hosting the party, Julia.
