6 Things Julia Wants You to Know

1. Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fawcett House is for sale. FLW’s beautiful Fawcett ranch house, which sits on 80 acres of farmland in the San Joaquin valley of California, is on the market for $2.395 million. It was designed in 1954 and has had only one owner. The photos on the listing site are amazing and include black and white historical pictures of the house. You can see them and get more information on the listing website. (Thanks to Cindy for this link!)

2. Not So Fast. My friend Ann Kroeker is a popular blogger (she’s been blogging so long that she’s the first person I ever knew to have one–she’s the one who told me what a blog was!). She’s also a published author, so I had to tell you about her newest book, Not So Fast: Slow-Down Solutions for Frenzied Families. Congrats, Ann! You can read more about her book on her blog or order a copy from Amazon.

3. Casting Call. Boy Wonder Productions asked if I could spread the word that they’re casting for the next season of DIY’s hit show “10 Grand in Your Hand.” They’re looking for people who live within 50 miles of New York City and are planning renovations on their homes within the late summer/early fall. Check out their website for more information about the show, or let me know if you’d like the contact info.

4. Being Watched. Thank you to WE magazine for naming me as one of their 100 Women Bloggers to Watch. There are a lot of great blogs on the list and I’m honored to be mentioned among them. You can see the full list here.

5. Julie & Julia. I went to see the movie Julie & Julia last night and really enjoyed it. No, it’s not perfect, but there’s so much joie de vivre in the film that you can’t help but leave the theater smiling. (If you missed my post about Julia Child’s house and kitchen, click here.)

6. Psst: Check out this book if you’re planning to build or remodel any time soon! It’s filled with helpful ideas and insider info.

Thanks so much for the link to the Fawcett house. I’ve been a fan of Frank Lloyd Wright’s for many a year, and it’s always a treat to have a peek, particularly of the properties that are not as well known.

Your recognition on the WE list is so well-deserved. I just love your blog – it’s a clearinghouse for all cool things about houses, and your link to the Fawcett house sale is a perfect example. You go, girl!

what a great blog, I don’t really understand that permalink thingy in the last blog, but it sounds good !!! I’ve put you on my reader so I can follow your posts, love that one about the “then and now” home for $175K, wish I could buy that one!!!

Amanda @ Serenity Now August 8, 2009 at 8:33 pm

I love this list. Julie&Julia is on my list to see now. It got great reviews in our paper. :)

CONGRATS on being named one of the 100 women bloggers to watch. That’s amazing! I can’t wait to check out that list.

Thanks for the tip on your friend’s new book. I’ve been on the lookout for books to review for the MOPS newsletter I edit (and design, and unfortunately have to write some of the articles for…my brain is running out of ideas). It looks like something that would be right up the alley for many of the moms in our group. :)

Have a great rest of your weekend!

Long time reader, first time poster here!
Congrats on the recognition you received! It’s well-deserved, for sure!
I absolutely ?LOVE? this site and find myself drooling and dreaming daily over the pages! I’m especially addicted to older and movie homes!
I know that you probably get a ton of requests, but I hope that perhaps you could dig up pictures of some of my favorite movie homes – when you get the time, of course! I’ve looked, but to no avail!
My favorites are:
1. The home in “Burnt Offerings” – a 70’s thriller that I still freak out over.
2. The home in “House” – goofy 80’s horror.
3. Noah’s hand-built home in “The Notebook” – why can’t we all be as lucky as Allie?
I also wanted to mention one of my FAVORITE sites for finding homes! It’s called OldHouses.com and they have tons of old houses to fall in love with… all for sale! Someday!

My mouth literally dropped when I saw the Frank Lloyd Wright house. What a SPECTACULAR property! Thank you for the listing link–the interior and exterior pictures are amazing. LOVE LOVE LOVE that house!

That’s a great price on the FLW with acreage. Too bad dh won’t let me live in California.

It is sad it can’t stay in the family.

Debbykay August 9, 2009 at 11:23 pm

Congrats on your recognition in WE! Great job!

Can’t wait to see Julie and Julia. Thanks for the tips.

Congratulations!!! I am so happy that your blog is doing so well. Usually, when I see lists of popular blogs, I always wonder what makes them so popular. But not with your site. Hooked on Houses is fabulous!!!

P.S. My husband loves the FLW house. I have to admit there is definitely something in that modern style that appeals to me too!!

Adrienne @ Susan Palmer Designs August 11, 2009 at 8:31 pm

Maybe it’s just me, but $ 2.395 million seems nowhere near enough for this FLW house! I mean I know there is a recession going on … :) *sigh* if only I had the money!
