This charming cottage is on the market in Scarborough, Maine, for $725,000. It’s what a real estate agent would call “cozy”–about 2,000 square feet and only 3 bedrooms, 1.5 baths–but it sits on 4 acres near the ocean and was decorated by the talented designer Tracey Rapisardi. Even if you don’t know her name, I bet you’ve seen her work in magazines like Coastal Living.
A lot of us fell in love with the 2008 Coastal Living Idea Cottage that she decorated (which also happens to be in Scarborough). If that whale coat rack in the entry to this house looks familiar, it’s probably because you saw a similar one in the Idea Cottage:

Let’s take a look at the rest of the cottage now, shall we?

It’s a tiny kitchen, but they make the most of it:

I found this listing because I was searching for sunroom decorating ideas and Google offered me this photo (thanks, Google!):

I’m such a sucker for a cute little beachy-looking house like this. Maybe it’s because I think every day would feel like a vacation…and I could really go for a vacation right now.
Check the listing for the rest of the photos. Tracey Rapisardi’s website is Sea Rose Designs. Visit Coastal Living to see the 2008 Idea Cottage, or a gallery of other beautiful rooms she’s done.

It’s darling! I love the color scheme. We stayed at a cozy little beach cottage in Bayside, Maine two summers ago. It was positively charming.

Julia, thanks so much for sharing this adorable cottage with us. The color scheme is the same inside and out! How cute is *that*??? I love the dining area and the sunroom. I hope my hydrangeas look that pretty this summer
How is the decorating coming along in your sunroom? I cannot wait to see it. Please post *tons* of pictures when you’re finished with it. (I could use a vacations to a warmer climate about now. We are expecting a winter storm and around 5″ of snow here in Central Alabama tomorrow!)

It just says sit back and relax all over it! I wonder if you can smell the ocean breezes from where it sits? It didn’t really look terribly close from the picture. So soothing..ahhhhh.

Julia, I’m with you girlfriend! I’m ready for vacation too. I LOVE the look of the N.Carolina beach houses where we vacation, but I really need to get to the Pacific Northwest! (sense the urgency?) I have just recently been enjoying the coastal decor from that area. It is so restful!
How’s the sunroom coming?
OK – I’m going back to look at your other coastal links. Hope you’re having a great weekend. ~Sally

Nice cozy cottage! Just think about all of the relaxing you could do there. Unfortunately, the cottage is not right on the ocean, but it does have lots of acres.
I wish it were mine! It’s beautiful!

Love the beach cottage! I laughed when I read your comment, “I’m such a sucker for a cute little beachy-looking house like this. Maybe it’s because I think every day would feel like a vacation…” When we moved from Boston to our beach house on Cape Cod in 1999, my husband said to a friend who asked how we were liking the Cape, “We love it. Every day I drive home from work over the Bourne Bridge, I feel like I am on vacation,” to which the friend replied, “Well, that might not be so good for me because I always drink way too much when I’m on vacation!”
Love that story–too funny!
I could really go for a vacay right now too!!! Let’s head for the beach.
Love her use of color in this home!!

I love it! thanks for sharing
Could you please wrap it up and have it sent to my place?
You got it!
Man, oh, man. Yes, please. The outside is IT. Love the lighting choices, too.
I would love to own a beautiful beach home like this one day. Wow, simply gorgeous! I love your blog and enjoy reading about all of the homes you feature!
Oh, I just LOVE Tracey Rapisardi!! I’d be able to move into that house, and not change a thing! Beautiful!!
Hope you have a great day!
Beth.
Wow Julia, thanks for posting this adorable house! My husband and I vacation in Scarborough every summer, and know approximately where it’s located. To answer an earlier post, you can definitely see and smell the ocean from that house. Hubby says he’ll go for it if we relocate full time. Maine’s great, but those winters, brrr…..!
Absolutely charming!

Lovely house. Makes me chuckle when I see comments about how small it is. It’s slightly above average for the average British home!
I guess “small” is relative, huh? For that price I think buyers would consider it a little cozy, though, especially considering the fact that there’s only one full bath. Or maybe not. Is there anyone who can tell us if that’s considered a lot of square footage for the area or not?
What a beautiful home, and it’s decorated expertly. I think my favorite room is the kitchen.
Hello Julia!
Are you enjoying your Sunday?
I’m a HUGE fan of cottages. I have a house in the Atlantic Canada and I simply the life that place offers… It’s really cold in the winter, but so beautiful in the summer and lobster is really cheap! You can buy 2 fresh lobster for less than $30 bucks! Not in the restaurants, because they try to get as much $ as they can, but if you buy it in the markets you really get it at a great price. Plus, life is really safe, wonderful to raise kids and people are extremely friendly!
A cottage like this is so beautiful and the price isn’t bad, but for that price you buy OCEAN front in the Maritimes! Which is even more dreamy.
Love to see a cottage at this time of the year… Oh, I miss the warm breeze coming from the ocean. Now, if I see outside I see the my river (which is a block from the bay) totally frozen!

Only $725,000 for all that? I want it! But, any advice on whether or not I could survive in that latitude and longitude if I’ve lived just outside Los Angeles my whole life. I mean, it’s on opposite ends of the lower 48 and probably as far apart in every other aspect. I do love that house though.
Love it!!!
Oh wow! That’s my dream house. I’d live with 1.5 baths and a tiny kitchen and be completely content. It’s just beautiful.

What a lovley home ,my favourite writer Stephen King bases a lot of his novels in Maine ,I couldn’t imagine a beautiful place like this in one of his stories though!

I absolutely love this little house! (Which is bigger than my little house, but yes, small for the price.) WHERE does everyone get those lovely little benches like the pink one in the entry and the blue one in the last picture that she uses as a coffee table – I love them!!
