One of my favorite new-house trends has to be the “Modern Farmhouse” style.
Crisp Architects in New York built this country retreat inspired by rural farm houses with front, back and side porches to take advantage of the wooded views.
Take a look!
Modern Farmhouse Style by Crisp Architects
According to the Crisp Architects website, “The interior of the home has a modern feel with a window wall on one side of the double height living room.”
James Crisp says, “Our client wanted the home to be bright, open and to be a place where intimate dinner parties and large gatherings worked equally well.”
A sitting area with bookshelves overlooks the living room:
The kitchen countertops look like a mix of soapstone and wood.
“The kitchen is the center of activity, opening to a large breakfast bay, a screened porch, and the living room.”
The master bedroom has access to a screened porch, too:
I especially love the exterior of the house and all the outdoor living spaces they designed around it.
Even the garage, which doubles as a carriage house/guest quarters, is pretty to look at:
Thanks to Crisp Architects for sharing their project with us.

Aside from incredible architecture, who designed the landscape?
Credit must be given in the landscape: stone, axis, focal points, flow, simplicity, repetition, color trinity, furniture choices, scale, flow, meadow at multiple heights, double axis, …………..

Good question! I don’t know who designed it, but it’s beautiful, isn’t it?

Being an old house person, I don’t normally cotton to newer places, but this is different. This place has such character and charm. The architect has planned and executed everything so well! The only thing I might add is some rustic/antique pieces. The furniture that’s here now is lovely, but perhaps a bit formal and also a bit traditional in design, for a modern farmhouse look.

I’d like to see that, too. I think these types of photos are generally taken right after the house is built, though, so there’s probably wasn’t a lot of time for personalizing the spaces. I think it would be such a fun house to decorate!

I’m an old house person as well, but I really like this. Very classic and tasteful. I don’t even dislike the double height ceiling too much because it gives the large room light it wouldn’t have with just regular height windows on one side only. The only things I’d want to change are all of the recessed lighting (can’t abide it!) and the wet bar in the living room. That should look less kitchen-y and more like an antique built-in hutch. Nicely done overall – it looks very comfortable and I love all of the outdoor spaces too.

Truly beautiful….. Love the modern update with the farmhouse character. There’s such a warm & welcoming feeling in every room throughout this gorgeous home. There isn’t one thing that I would change. The screened in porch is absolutely where I would feel so at home. Perfection inside & out. The garage is so quaint as well & blends with the charm of the outside. Love …..Love….. Love it……

I have admired and followed Crisp for some time and read his blog. He is my hero and brilliant at recreating period homes with modern twists.
