You don’t always have to make a major overhaul in a room to make a difference.
I was reminded of that decorating truth when I saw Kim’s kitchen.
She made one basic change to mix things up a bit, and here’s how it looks now…
I like both sets of chairs, but I think the yellow lightens the mood of the room and sets the stage for summer.
Visit Kim’s blog Savvy Southern Style to see more of her kitchen.
Have you made any quick changes to your home lately that made a difference?
Love the check curtains. Anyone know where they can be bought?
Check Kim’s blog. If she doesn’t mention where they’re from, ask her. I bet she’d tell you! 🙂
They are from countrycurtains.com.
Thanks, Kim!
I think you can find those curtains in the Country Curtains catalog/website. They have beautiful, well-made things. (Nope, don’t work there 🙂
I had to come see this as soon as I saw it was Kim’s house! I always appreciate what she does.

Similar curtains can be found at http://www.countrycurtains.com – I believe those are the rod pocket, red buffalo check. They come in a yellow, buffalo check as well… Love them!
Great! Thanks for the link!
Very nice! I like both sets of chairs, but you’re right, Julia…the yellow seems appropriate for summer. I’ve tried to set my chairs up like this (3 on each side of my harvest table) but my family always complains that the chairs are too close together and somehow they always get moved back to their original positions; with two on each side and one on either end. Sometimes living with other people is so difficult! 🙂
Hahaha! That makes me laugh, because it is true.
I love the dining room. It has that country style look and I love country homes.
I saw her kitchen before and love the buffalo check curtains and adore the new yellow chair color as often all we see these days is white or black.
Thank you I signed up for your newsletter.
Thanks, Maureen! 🙂
Color is an amazing thing.
It really is!
Yup! I’ve already done two quick (and cheap) changes to our living room. One was a “miss” in my eyes and the other was a “hit”.
I tried bright yellow accessories in our pale gray/white trim living room. Pretty …but also pretty ‘bossy’ 😉 (That was the ‘miss’.) Took them all away and put in just a couple teal blue accessories with pillows in that color I’d made last summer. (Hit!) Much more calming and restful…and not so bossy 😉
You’d think the yellow would help infuse the room with energy for spring/summer. But instead it somehow sucked all the energy out! Haha!
Color works in mysterious ways…. 😉
So true, Connie. It’s weird how you can envision a room with a certain color and it looks great in your mind’s eye, but then in reality it falls flat. I always have to experiment and try different things to get it right and sometimes I’m surprised by what looks good together. Your teal with the gray sounds pretty! 🙂
I really love that window, those curtains, the light fixture … Lovely either way, dark or light chairs! This weekend I’m visiting all the bloggers who left comments on my blog in its first year (2010). Sadly, many have discontinued their blogs. I’ve been an irregular visitor to Hooked on Houses, but plan to change that (I’m in the mood, and have time now, to do some “refreshing” of my home). I think the last time I left a comment was on a post about Julia Child’s Cambridge house.
Hi Jean! So nice to see you back here! It’s funny that you mentioned doing that because last night I was going through old posts from 2008 and clicking on the names of bloggers who used to comment regularly to see what they were up to. Most of their blogs were gone or hadn’t been updated in years, which was sad. I’m glad you’re still out there and blogging, though! 🙂
Adore the yellow! Perfect touch for her lovely kitchen 🙂
Julia, I have been out of town and just noticed a lot of traffic from your blog so I clicked over and what a surprise. Thanks so much for the feature!!
You’re welcome, Kim! Hope you had a great trip. 🙂
What an awesome amends! I loved your chairs, but you are absolutely right the yellow seems perfect for summer. Great! Thanks for the link!
Yes…Kim is definitely the Queen of Change Ups and she does them so beautifully!!!
She really does. Love her style!
The flooring and the chairs are awesome and the yellow lightens the mood of the room. Especially the light above the table looks stunning. Gonna get the same design for my home.
