Remember when Jennifer Aniston sold her 10,000 square-foot Mid-Century Modern in Beverly Hills for $38 million earlier this year, saying she wanted to live in something cozier? Looks like she meant it.
First she bought two apartments in NYC to convert into a 2,700 square-foot duplex. Then she fell in love with actor Justin Theroux, and the couple rented this 2-bedroom house in the Hollywood Hills. I love that she’s living in 1,700 square feet when she could afford 17,000.
Any fans of the NBC sitcom “Parks and Recreation” out there? It took me a while to warm up to the show, but now I never miss an episode. Justin Theroux had a funny role as Amy Pohler’s too-good-to-be-true love interest in the second season.
He was so clean-cut and businesslike on that show that I didn’t realize that was the guy she was dating at first. I was all, like, “Jen! Why didn’t you tell me he was on Parks & Rec? I thought you were dating some random bearded dude on a motorcycle!” When he shaved his beard recently, I finally recognized him.
They didn’t want to buy a place right away, Us Weekly reports, so they’re renting this fully-furnished, $3 million house for (gulp) $17,500 a month. Apparently they got a deal–it used to be $20 grand. Once again, I note how glad I am to live in one of the fly-over states where you could lease a lovely house like this for under $2,000.
The house is reportedly owned by a film location scout, which may be why it’s so easy to imagine a movie being filmed here. A rom-com, most likely.
The kitchen has kind of an odd, triangular shape to it.
Those top shelves look way high. I’d never be able to reach them!
Love all the vaulted ceilings in the house, and the french doors in the master bedroom:
There’s a garage on the property that was converted into additional living space, too:

Like it? You can read more about the house and see the rest of the photos at Realtor.com. Photos of Jen’s just-sold mansion here.

I love looking at real estate listings of homes bought by celebrities. I always wonder A) what the place would look like with my touch and, B) what the place will look like with my touch if I had that celebrity’s budget!
love it!!! Very charming and comfortable, I would buy something like that
It IS a darling house. It is nice that a star like Jennifer likes smaller/cozy and does not have to go grander!

Totally agree, Karena. I applaud Jennifer’s decision to live in this smaller type home. To me those l7,000 sq. ft. monsters always seem to be more of a hotel than a real home.
Oh my, I could so live in that house! I’m gonna have to study those pics for some inspiration. BTW is she or isn’t she pregnant? I’m getting blasted with that in the supermarket checkout this week so it likely isn’t true right?
Most of the Tabloids you see at the store are lies so don’t believe or trust the articles they write.
what a jewel of a house…i love that they’re living in a smaller house…just as lux as if it were on a grander scale…i’m a fan of parks and rec too…and i never recognized jen’s new fella as a guest on the show…thanks for sharing!

Hi Julia!!
wow, i love it. and i love that she’s living in a small (yet gorgeous) space!
Love it. It’s so homey and comfortable. I can see her living there.
I like the great room with all the windows and those neat built-ins!! It’s a cute house.
I really like it. The kitchen is a bit strange, but still it’s likeable.
I would take it in a minute if someone would be so kind as to give it to me!
Looove it!
Beautiful!!
wow…i really adore that house. i can totally see myself living there. the vaulted white ceilings had me at hello and i love the funky triangle shaped kitchen. i heard they got married. that seems very unexpected and quick for her. hope she finds happiness.
Tabloids are predicting that they’re planning a December wedding, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see if there’s any truth to those rumors. Unless Jen told you something the rest of us don’t know, Becky!
Wow. That is beautiful. I like it so much better than some of these crazy huge houses. Nice!
I find it refreshing that this house is “good enough”. Maybe we should all be comfortable with our homes and not make unreasonable goals.
As far as the triangle kitchen, if you look at the first picture and see the angled wall with 2 diamond paned windows and then look at the second picture of the kitchen you see where the room is and why it has an angled wall.
I like figuring out what the layout is by photo clues.

Very cute house, but I’m kind of doubting she’ll be there very long. I suspect she views it as similar and temporary as a bungalow at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
Wow, what a cute and nice house. I could see myself living here.
I must say, this place is so much better than that mansion Jen just sold. It actually has personality and taste.
He looks so cute and less cocky with facial hair.
This is a really lovely home, I could definitely imagine Jen living there. I know she loved her little Malibu bungalow and hated that she sold it (I say I know, more like I read in her interviews! haha). That kitchen is such an odd shape, and I’m with you Julia, I don’t think I would be able to reach those shelves either!
I absolutely love it. I love how it’s so open and light. I’d take this over a huge mansion any day.
Oh, heavens–a blog that delights me to no end!! I thought I was one of the few who loves houses! We drove around a historic town today simply looking at all the homes–some from when the colonies, were, well, colonies! This blog will be in my RSS feeds NOW!!
Welcome, Susan! Always nice to hear from a kindred spirit.
I also love, that they chose smaller.
But what I’d really love is for this relationship to last, for her. -sigh-
I love the cottage. It is so pretty! I even think that the kitchen is neat, although I wonder if the odd shape would get on my nerves. Great post, Julia!
I, too, am thankful that I live in a place where I get three times the square footage for a mortgage that comes out to be about that much a YEAR! I always wonder how “normal” folks can afford to have any sort of decent home in those markets. BUT…I will say that I love the quality of the space. Here, you would never see a 1700 square foot house with those sort of finishes and details…which is a real shame!
Really like this house. The other place was more of a showpiece – this one seems more like a home. And although I love the decor and furnishings, it almost seems too impersonal, like straight out of a catalogue. Too beige. (does it come furnished?) There are a few pillows here and there with some color, but I don’t know. What style would you call it?
Oops, just went back and re-read. Yes, fully furnished. That explains why thete is a lack of personality.
Jennifer Aniston & Justin Theroux’s rental home looks so amazing and comfortable! I would purchase a beautiful house like that! I’ve heard that this cute couple found their lovely home with the help of an experienced Realtor named Michael Libow. nice post, Julia! thanks for sharing!
Love, love, love that kitchen. Wow! I live in a house without any (or almost no) right angles and it’s hard to decorate and furnish but it’s nice to live that way. Thought I wonder what all those shelves would look like if you happened to own anything that wasn’t white. Kinda cluttered, is my guess. Same with the shelves in the converted garage.
I really love this house, it’s so cozy! Not sure how I feel about that angled kitchen though. Especially since it’s the most used room in the house. Really beautiful overall though. Thank you! I just love reading your site
Nikki
Yeah Im not sure about the angled kitchen either, i guess you either love them or you dont.
Love this house much better than the new one she’s bought in belair which looks cold, and quite overpriced if you ask me.
This house is hit or miss with me. While I just love some rooms (dining/living room, kitchen, master bedroom, “garage”), the others are not as loved. I actually hate both of the bathrooms. Overall, I absolutely love the size of the house. I’ve said it before (possibly on your blog), I do not understand why people need such large houses. Everyone in the house needs a room, plus maybe one or two extra for an office or guests. And really, does one need an entire living room in their bedroom? Haha.
I think it’s okay and much better than the larger ones. I don’t like the kitchen, which should be the most inviting area in the house..kind of looks lopsided. I think she’s just buying to invest because it doesn’t look like she puts a great deal of thought in these homes. They’re very uncomfortable looking. They need some comfortable furnishings, better paint on the walls, you name it. It’s workable, but it’s not my favorite by far. She has such good taste in so many other things, that it’s surprising her homes don’t emulate that. She needs to find a better place in my opinion. I’m an interior designer and I can’t see the beauty in her homes. I see she doesn’t plan to spend a great deal of time in these places.. That’s all I can think of. As for this guy she chose, Justin Theroux, nope.. I cannot even imagine them together. That was a shocker to me because there are so many others I can picture her with. He’s scrawny, as shown twice in Sex and The City.. and he played these neurotic types.. I know it was acting, but at the same time, he just doesn’t seem her type..What’s happening with her? I don’t get it and I don’t like John Mayer, known to be a complete jerk to women and he did the same to her, a few others that I don’t even recall but they all seemed to abuse women on an emotional level. They had those reputations. A shame. He’s by far not at all what I think, yes, I do know my opinion doesn’t matter in this instance, but what a shock because he’s off kilter.. never liked his roles in movies, television, nothing..he’s very neurotic in the film roles I’ve seen him in.. so what’s with that?? oh well, who knows ..maybe she needs time to fill the spaces between making movies..
hello! just found your blog! so much fun to go through all the celeb homes. You do a great job of posting! Looking forward to getting started advertising on your blog!
Can you please tell me where to buy that dining room table?
