When I spotted this modern farmhouse with the wide front porch in the real estate listings, it stopped me in my tracks. I knew I had seen it somewhere before.
With a little digging, I figured it out. It looked familiar because it was featured in Country Living a few years ago, when they declared it “One of the prettiest country farmhouses we’ve ever seen.”
At the time the house belonged to Lauren, a popular Instagrammer with an account I love called @Farmhouseforfour. She and her husband Chad sold it in 2017.
Now it’s back on the market in Senoia, Georgia, so let’s take a look!
A Modern Farmhouse in Georgia
Lauren and her husband Chad built the house, and they were living here when the article came out in 2016.
The exterior looks like the Four Gables house plan offered by Southern Living, but she told me they hired an architect who changed the layout and helped them make it their own.
However, you can see the similarities to the Four Gables exterior shown on the Southern Living website.
The Four Gables plan has 2,300 square feet.
This house is much bigger, however, with a finished lower level and 4,200 square feet.
The Kitchen
The large island has antique porch posts and the range hood was constructed from salvaged pine.
According to the article in Country Living:
One block off Main Street in a small, picturesque Georgia town (you might recognize it as the backdrop for the likes of movie classics like Fried Green Tomatoes and Driving Miss Daisy), Lauren and Chad Crouch discovered the perfect lot to put down roots for their growing family (daughter Aria, 4, and son Collier, 3).
Because the thriving community is known for its turn-of-the-century charm, the Crouches went the thoughtful, respect-your-architectural-elders route and built a farmhouse that blends right in with its time-honored neighbors.
The new-meets-old home merges modern amenities (a rock-solid foundation, an open floor plan) with country classics (beamed ceilings, barn doors).
The Dining Area
The Living Room
Country Living said of the room:
A mix of vintage and catalog finds lends a casual vibe in the living room, where pine bookcases, rescued from a demolished elementary school, keep company with a new linen sofa.
An abstract painting by artist —and CL General Store vendor—Deann Hebert adds texture above the chippy mantel.
A Cozy Nook
The Main Bedroom
“The home across the street was constructed in the late 1800s,” Lauren told the magazine.
“We’re so proud our home looks like it was built at exactly the same time.”
The Main Bath
The primary bath mixes both modern and vintage with a walk-in shower
as well as a refurbished 1930s claw-foot bathtub.
The farmhouse has 4 bedrooms + 4.5 baths.
You can see how the bedroom below looked before when it had wallpaper on the window wall.
A secret door in this bedroom leads to a fun play space inside:
