Poll Results: Are Stainless-Steel Appliances Out?

by hookedonhouses on February 21, 2008

After reading several articles suggesting that stainless-steel appliances were “so 2007,” I asked you whether or not you agreed. The poll just closed, so I thought you’d like to see how it turned out. Looks like the majority of you agree with me that stainless is a classic look that’s here to stay.

I love stainless steel. In fact, it’s my favorite. But whenever I have to buy appliances (which has happend *plenty* in the last year), I always get white. It seems like it’s truly the classic. Can’t wait to see, though, how to make my all-whites look like stainless, should I change my mind. Your blog’s so much fun, Julia!

I think 51% believe (17 and 34) that SS is either out this year or a few more years only. That’s a majority that feels like I do that the ‘back of a McDonald’s look–all SS–is Anything but a classic. Let’s hope it hurries out.

I’m so sick of watching house-hunting and real-estate shows and listening to people ooh and ahh over stainless steel appliances. There is nothing uglier to me and I think that they should have gone out years ago. They now function as an unconscious status-symbol for home-buyers who seem to have no taste or opinions in any other areas. The marketing zeitgeist of the late 90’s succeeded and the consumer zombies complied. God help us.
