The temps have been kind of cool around here and the skies have been cloudy for most of the month. My kids went back to school weeks ago. The stores are filled with coats and sweaters and boots and scarves. But somehow the first official day of fall still managed to sneak up on me again this year.
I’m never really ready for it. Are you?
I know that once all of my fall decorations are up, I’ll love that look, too. But for some reason, the transition is hard. All over the blogosphere I see people diving right in and getting excited about fall, but I’ve been doing my best to ignore that not only is it coming–it’s here.
Maybe it’s just change in general that I’m not crazy about. (I’ve done a ridiculous amount of whining and gnashing of teeth over the recent Netflix and Facebook “improvements” this week.) The result of this aversion to change is that my rooms have been stuck in a state of not-so-pretty transition for far too long…
But I’m trying to ease myself into the new season now. I’ve been slowly taking things out of the Rubbermaid boxes marked “FALL STUFF” and packing the summery things away. I’ve been puttering and mulling and trying to decide where the pumpkins and gourds and orange pieces of pottery should go. Now it’s finally starting to look like autumn around here.
* Come back next Friday for a Fall Linky Party and show us how you’re decorating this year. I think we could all use a little inspiration! *
P.S. For those who have asked, I bought my mercury-glass pumpkins years ago, but I see that Pottery Barn is selling similar ones now.
