Welcome to my final Hooked on Fridays blog party. It’s been a year since I hosted my first one, and I think it’s time to try some new things around here. Hosting a weekly link-up takes a lot of time and energy (I haven’t had a Thursday night free since 2008!), and I’d like to throw some other types of parties now and then–especially with the holidays coming up.

For example, here are a couple I’m planning, so mark your calendars if you want to participate!

  • Hooked on House Tours: Fall Edition (Friday, Oct. 23)
  • Hooked on Holiday House Tours (Friday, Dec. 11)

Welcome to Hooked on Fridays, when we celebrate the things that make us happy. Here’s what got my heart pounding a little harder today: this sweet cottage in Carmel, California, featured on Lookiloos (love that site!). It was built in the 1920s as a caretaker’s cottage.

It’s on the market for about $5 million, which means I can buy it if I can come up with, let’s see, about $4.9 million! (Maybe if I checked under my sofa cushions…)

Welcome to Hooked on Fridays, a blog party I host at the end of each week to celebrate the things that make us happy. One thing that never fails to make me smile is a colorful entry door. I’m tempted to paint mine something fun and bright, but I’m not sure what color I’d go with. Right now I’ve got a very basic and boring dark-green door. Yawn. I’d much prefer a yellow door with character, like the one above. Or a cool and modern blue like the one below.

Welcome to Hooked on Fridays, a blog party I host at the end of each week to celebrate the things that make us happy. Our niece and nephews came to spend some time with us recently, so we took them to an old-fashioned candy store in a nearby town. We all admired the ice cream-cone castles in the windows:

Inside, my niece Elizabeth definitely looks like “a kid in a candy store.”

The candy shop was great, but what was really special was having the kids with us. They live 5 hours away, so we don’t get to see them as much as we’d like. The cousins are all the best of friends.

The store is fairly new. It used to be an old, musty and dusty antiques store that gave me sneezing fits. I could hardly believe it was the same place! They did a beautiful job creating a new candy store with old-fashioned charm. I love the original ceilings:

Kids, we miss you already! Come back soon and Aunt Julie will take you out for more candy and ice cream. (I’m not above bribing them with sugar if it gets them here more often!)

Something that made me happy this week is an Etsy shop called Tara’s Vintage Kitchen. I keep going back and finding more stuff I can’t resist. See this old milk bottle? Had to have it.

I had to have these hobnail salt and pepper shakers, too. Called my name right out loud.

My favorite “get” of the week is probably this sweet yellow creamer. I’ve already got it in my kitchen with daisies poking out of it. I smile every time I walk in there and see it.

Welcome to Hooked on Fridays, a blog party I host at the end of each week to celebrate the things that make us happy. I’ve been shopping for a new kitchen faucet and clipping photos of my favorites. Here are a couple that appeal to me (from BHG and HB), but there are so many fabulous faucets to choose from that I can’t seem to pick just one!

Okay, so it doesn’t help that I’m an indecisive person in general. It’s true. I can think the smallest decisions to death (which is why my blog is still plain black and white–choosing one design and logo for Hooked on Houses is tough for me!).

The Designer Plumbing Outlet is giving away a Moen Aberdeen Kitchen Faucet in Oil Rubbed Bronze, which got me all excited. I wonder how this would look in my kitchen? The bronze might look really nice with my white cabinets and black countertops, don’t you think?

Welcome to Hooked on Fridays, a blog party I host at the end of each week to celebrate the things that make us happy. Today I was inspired by the “Heirloom Party” happening at the blog Emma Calls Me Mama to post my own favorite family heirloom. I don’t have many, so it was easy to choose.

See this old Story & Clark piano? It was my grandmother’s. My mom and her sister learned to play piano on it. Years later, so did I.

After I got married and had a home of my own, my mom asked me if I wanted it. Yes! I couldn’t bear to think of it leaving the family. When it arrived at my house, I opened the bench and found stacks of old sheet music–complete with little gold stars and scrawled notes from piano teachers (“Needs more work!”).

My husband is a musician, and he plays this old Story & Clark much more than I do. Dave was actually in a rock band when I met him, with spiky hair and an earring, but he’s mellowed out over the years. Now when he rocks out, it’s with the “family band” as he calls his sessions with the kids.
