I’ve got some fun links to share with you this weekend, starting with a “Design Cruise” you can take with Jonathan and Drew Scott and some of their fellow HGTV stars…
They’re heading for the Caribbean for a week in November and calling it The Ultimate Design Cruise. Coming along for the ride and providing workshops you can attend: fellow famous TV designers like Kim Myles, Jillian Harris, and the Junk Gypsies.
In show news, Drew & Jonathan are currently filming new Property Brothers episodes in the New York area. You can read all about it this interview with them.
How much asymmetry can you handle in home design? When I wrote about this house, some readers couldn’t get past the fact that there weren’t shutters on both sides of the door, and it came up again recently on Facebook. So a reader named Manuel took it upon himself to do something about it, and I posted the results of his Photoshopped version here. Do you like it better now?
Lustron houses were built in the 1950s with porcelain-enameled walls (imagine using magnets instead of nails to hang things!). There’s a video at the end of the article of a homeowner who explains the challenges of living in one today.
4. I showed you Zooey Deschanel’s new house…
Now check out Vicki’s fun ideas for decorating it at If It Were Mine
I told you about this abandoned house when it was on the market a few years ago and there were fears that it would be torn down. I just learned that it finally sold and that the new owners are working to restore it. So happy to hear that!
7. Deep Decorating Thoughts via “3rd Rock from the Sun”
We started watching episodes of the classic ’90s sitcom “3rd Rock from the Sun” now that Netflix is streaming it, and I’d forgotten how funny that show is. (I have to stop myself from calling it “30 Rock from the Sun” every time, tho!)
It’s about a group of aliens who have assumed human form and pretend to be a family so they can study life on earth. Most episodes end with them sitting on their roof, looking up at the stars, and sharing the lessons they’ve learned.
I just watched a second-season episode that ended with Dick Solomon and Mary Albright having a philosophical discussion about the circle of life. I laughed out loud when he said this and couldn’t resist doing a screen grab of it for you:
On that deep philosophical note, have a wonderful weekend, friends, whether you choose to reupholster something or just give some new throw pillows a try! 🙂
