Did you see the mini-Friends reunion on Jimmy Kimmel Live? He “surprised” Jennifer Aniston with what he described as an $80,000 replica of Monica’s kitchen he had built in order to live out his fan-fiction fantasies. I couldn’t believe how much it looked like the real thing.
As a fan of the show, I was pretty excited when the curtains opened to reveal Monica’s kitchen. So cool.
Jimmy wrote a fan fiction screenplay in which he played Ross to Jen’s Rachel. Courteney Cox and Lisa Kudrow made surprise appearances as Monica and Phoebe during the sketch.
When they complained that the scene was pretty unbelievable, Jimmy said, “You mean like living in a huge New York City apartment when you work in a coffee shop?” (You can watch the video of it here.)
Jen pretended to be annoyed by the “surprise reunion,” and apparently a lot of viewers thought her act was for real. They were upset that she wasn’t more excited about it. Jimmy Kimmel later explained on his show that nope, kids, that was just something called acting.
I can’t believe the amount of work they put into recreating Monica’s kitchen. It was nearly identical to the real set. Can you spot the differences between the replica above and the original below?
While we’re on the topic of Friends, Entertainment Weekly reports that they’re creating a temporary but real version of the show’s iconic coffeehouse, Central Perk, to celebrate the sitcom’s 20th anniversary in Soho:
How fun would it be to grab an oversized cup of joe there? It will be open from September 16-October 18. If you have a chance to stop by, take some pics to show us!
