I feel like an elderly curmudgeon (and I'm not really there yet, honest!) but I think that, while many of the finishes and details are pretty (and predictable), the ground floor layout would drive me nuts. I'm SO tired of kitchens and dining rooms that are open to living rooms. Cooking smells travel, and functional kitchens that get actually used rarely look so pristine in real life because cooking efficiently means your tools are out in the open and handy. And who wants a view of all that from the living room?

I'm also distracted by the four different kinds of ceiling fixtures that are together in that space, and that massive island. I love the "bones" of the house, but I'd be trying to figure out how to get rid of all that recessed lighting and that ceiling fan, and then I'd want to put up a few walls and ditch that island for a wall with privacy and lots of storage.

We're house-hunting, and we spend a lot of time trying to figure out where original walls were, with the idea of putting them back. And is that a TV over the mantel and not a mirror? Sigh... well, I guess that passes for class down the Shore! I'm a big fan of blue and white (not that scary in blue in the bedroom, however). But this house is an also-ran for me.

I've got to add a caveat...

Am I the only person in the world who doesn't like it when the bathroom finishes (tile and countertop colors and stones, fixture finishes, cabinetry style and colors, etc) in a house don't at least try to coordinate from one bathroom to another?

I'd still take this house any day :-)

Re No 1: They may have screens that retract into the door jams. This is becoming more common with french doors. Or, they may have left them off for the photos. I don't see any screens on the regular windows either.
