Sandra Rinomato Quits “Property Virgins”

by hookedonhouses on January 5, 2012

If you’ve seen the commercial for the new season of Property Virgins, then you were probably as surprised as I was that it featured a new host. Where’s Sandra Rinomato? Curious minds want to know.

She posted this note to her fans on her Facebook page, explaining why she is no longer hosting the popular HGTV show:

After 130 episodes and 10 seasons, I have chosen to give up Property Virgins in favour of my new show called Buy Herself. We are currently in production for HGTV Canada and are scheduled to premier in March 2012. I hope that the show will get picked up for the US territory as well, since I have such devoted fans!

I am really excited about the new show as it delves into the very change that is happening around us. For the first time in history, a significant number of women are buying real estate on their own, taking charge of their financial situations, whether they have delayed marriage, decided not to marry, or belong to the stat that says 41% of marriages end in divorce. Women buying real estate is not a fad, it’s history in the making and I am very proud to be a part of it on TV.

Thanks for your loyalty and all of your incredible comments today and always!

Love to you all,
Sandra

Meet the new host, Egypt Sherrod:

According to Cineflix Productions, which produces the show, she’s a nationally syndicated TV and radio personality, as well as a licensed Realtor and short-sale specialist:

Known for her dynamic delivery and magnetic mix of sass and class, Egypt can be heard weekdays hosting her top rated Middays with Egypt on New York City’s 107.5 WBLS. She also co-hosted the hit daily TV talk and makeover series Home Delivery, and regularly shares her music and pop-culture expertise on CNN, Fox Network, Black Entertainment Television, and The Today Show, among others

It’s hard to imagine the show without Sandra, isn’t it? HGTV hasn’t updated their website with any further info about the switcheroo as far as I can tell–Sandra is still listed as host. Egypt just went on maternity leave, so most if not all of the season must have already been filmed.

Are you a fan of the show? Will you miss Sandra? Or are you happy to see someone new?

Nothing against Sandra, but I can’t stand Property Virgins! It is on all the time!

Her snide, rude attitude towards the Property Virgins is disgusting! I’ve never been able to stomach her show past, “What do you think the price is on this house?”

Someone needs to educate these first timers. As a former real estate broker I know these “first timers” can’t see further than their noses and see every decorating choice as some kind of huge drawback. I think she did a great job!

Right! Sandra did an excellent job at informing first timers and helping them get past small items such as ‘paint color’. I will miss her and hope the new host will be as informative and on point. I don’t watch House Hunters because I can’t stand the ignorant remarks with no agent education on the market, value and bringing them back to the truth of what their money can buy.

Sandra R. will be missed…I always thought she handled these new home owners with savvy and intelligence in spite of their silly expectations…This new Egypt whatever has no appeal to me and I will no longer watch the show…just another cookie cutter to appeal to the so called masses…Sandra is sassy and I wish her luck with her new show…..

Thanks for the update. I hadn’t seen that the change was happening yet. It’ll be interesting to see how it does with a new host. I liked Sandra so I’m sad to see her go, but excited that she has a new show. Let’s just hope we get to see that show in the U.S.

My daughter and her husband are still newlyweds and live an apartment. They watch this show faithfully and love Sandra. They feel like they will be so much more prepared when they are ready to go house shopping. They will be so disappointed to see her go, but hopefully her new show will be a winner too!

It took me a year to start watching House Hunters again after Suzanne Whang left. I don’t think I can do that again! Property Virgins, we’re through.

The thing I can’t stand about that show are the young couples. It’s kind of sickening watching them finance gigantic home loans because they have to have granite countertops and “space for entertaining”. When I was young and buying my first house those were luxuries I did without. People are spoiled.

On the other hand, her new show sounds cool. I am one of those single moms buying real estate and investing on my own for the first time – what a coincidence!

Not a fan of the show, partly because she gives really bad, and wrong, information to the home buyers about the costs of work to be done. Seems like her new show is late on the mark. 20 or more years ago it might have been new that women were buying their own homes, but not anymore.

Reply

19 Ann January 5, 2012 at 10:09 am

I am wondering that you might feel her advice is “bad” or “wrong” because the show is produced in Canada and the advice might be appropriate for Canadian buyers. We pay considerably more for the cost of some renos than those south of the border. Just a thought.

I like the show and will miss Sandra. She is down to earth and likable. I will be watching for her new show.

Reply

20 Lizzy January 5, 2012 at 11:44 am

Actually Ann, I think her estimates are waaaaay too low and misleading.
Based on what I have paid for work in the northeast USA.
Simple things like refinishing floors, installing wall to wall, never mind the bigger projects like new siding, kitchens and baths.

Reply

21 Janice January 5, 2012 at 12:32 pm

Hi Ann – Like Lizzy said, I find her estimates of what work will cost to be wayyyyy low. I recall one time she told the buyers it would cost $1000-$2000 to replace all the knob & tube wiring in the old Toronto home they were looking at. I had two friends who had just had this done and it was $10,000 for one and $25,000 for the other. And that’s down here in New Brunswick, Canada where costs aren’t nearly as high as Toronto. Quite a few other times I’ve been shocked at her low ball of prices for home repairs. Either she is misinformed due to lack of experience with home repair, since it’s not her job, I don’t expect her to be, but then she shouldn’t offer a dollar figure. Or she is just lying to make the sale. Now, I know region to region costs can vary greatly, and costs are generally a lot lower in the States, but often she is so far off base it’s alarming.

Reply

22 Beverly from Montreal January 6, 2012 at 9:05 am

I’m surprised that the producers would air the show with misleading estimates for home repairs, Janice. They must have access to experts who know what the current prices would be. Strange.

Sandra’s new show sounds promising; hope it is successful.

I don’t watch nearly as much HGTV as I used to because it’s all real estate shows now, and they’re mostly really poorly produced. Extremely scripted, bad acting, poor recitation of the script, and clueless expectations of stainless appliances, granite counter tops and room for entertaining being standard issue in a house.

Reply

26 Betty Reese January 7, 2012 at 4:43 pm

I so agree with you — I don’t watch it much at all anymore and I used to have it on 10 or 11 hours a day —-I think House Hunters is awful and then they run days when it is nothing but House Hunters — I thought HGTV meant Home and Garden TV — not lets try to buy every mansion on every continent – not let’s look at house and garden on every continent — lets see how we can have a nice garden and yard on a budget and how we can update our current home on a budget and do it ourselves.

didnt know they had to be actors
Anyway I do agree with what is important to the the buyers is not what a true wishlist /homeowner shld look for, entertaining space for friends/family, dont get it; although I love my family, there not resp for helping me pay my mortgage for a bigger entertaining space. they wld have to deal with what I purchased.
I will miss Sandra…..will not be watching Ms Egypt…..I remember her from the Baltimore, Md area…good radio/tv host. For property virgin..H to the N

Katy, I am in full agreement with you. Even my 10-year-old son can’t believe the things that these people want in a first home. Heck, I’m on my third home, and still no pool, no fireplace, no stainless steel, and no granite countertops! And NO problems!!!

I did like Sandra, but I’m kind of done with these TV shows. I’ll stick with Julia!!
Happy 2012!

Egypt Sherrod is no more a “short sale specialist” than the man-in-the-moon. In fact, her bio reads: “Egypt Sherrod is a correspondent for “The Maury Show“, entertainment reporter for BET’s The Black Carpet, national radio personality in over 60 cities with Premiere Radio Networks, and co-host of the formerly syndicated WB daytime TV hit “Home Delivery”. In her hometown of Philadelphia, Sherrod earned a Bachelor of the Arts degree from Temple University while majoring in Broadcasting and Telecommunications. She was a theater student at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.”

The whole basis for shows such as these is to have access to experienced agents such as Rinomato. This is a farce.

Some really got it without too much angst, but the ones who didnt? HA!

Where in the world does HGTV find these twerps? There was a short-lived show on about kitchen revnovations with a “designer” by the name of Lauren Lake… some overpaid African-American that didn’t know sh*t from shinola…. Well guess what??? I saw her recently on truTV… as an “expert witness”??? What the heck is up with that? She’s no more of a lawyer or expert witness than I am!

I have really cut back a lot on watching HGTV. The excesses that these people go to are just wayyyyy beyond reality. The new show with the brothers (one real estate agent, one carpenter (or whatever he calls himself) is absolutely rediculous… First off, did the Canadians not suffer any losses in the housing melt-down? Who pays that kind of money for trashy houses? And then, why can they take a comparatively small amount and re-do the ENTIRE house????

Reply

43 Ann January 6, 2012 at 8:31 am

I’m curious why you felt it necessary to point out that Lauren Lake is African-American.

Reply

44 Beverly from Montreal January 6, 2012 at 9:14 am

Andrea, the Canadian housing market did not suffer the loses that occured with the U.S. housing melt-down. Thankfully, our banks & financial instutions were much better regulated.

I also would like to know why you felt it was necessary to point out that Lauren Lake is African-American. Do I agree with you that I don’t believe she really knew what she was doing? Yes. Does her race have anything to do with that? Absolutely not. Be careful, your racism is showing.

Love, love Sandra Rinomato and Property Virgins. She’s a straight shooter, my kind of agent. Don’t know about Egypt. I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt, but if she knows nothing, I’m out. Sandra gave knowledge of the trade, so I not only got entertained but informed.

I wasn’t a fan at the first early viewings of the show. Likely, because “I didn’t get it.” Thought Sandra was somewhat abrasive & overly hard handed. At the same time I couldn’t stop watching it and came to understand what she was doing in showing the “virgins” the folly of their inflated expectations or the desirability of a stronger investment. Husband & I had many job transfers in our younger years and happily,
had the good luck of mostly, very helpful professionals. She really proved often to be a composite of many of the good folk we experienced. Looking forward to her new show.

Property Virgins was the last HGTV show my husband and I were still watching. It won’t be the same without Sandra so I doubt we’ll be tuning in. As for her new show I may give it a chance but I tend to feel it is the women who expect way to much out of a house and pout when it doesn’t meet their expectations…not sure I could stand a whole half hour of that.

To address the above commenters…we just sold our first home and bought our second from a person within our extended family. Our realtor had a ton of connections whom we used to get things done much cheaper( but just as well or beyond as well) just by association. I would imagine anyone buying a house through a show like that would be offered the same opportunity. Just a thought.

Another thing I don’t like about Property Virgins, compared to House Hunters, etc., is that they don’t show the new owners in their home at the end, so we can see the changes they made to the house and how they’ve settled in. Kind of boring, if you ask me. ;-)

Reply

63 todd January 6, 2012 at 8:41 am

we shouldn’t be surprised. HGTV has historically gotten rid of TALENTED (and more importantly) EDUCATional hosts because they have reached the age of over 30-something. It is shameless how many times this network has replaced good talent with a younger model/known TV personality in hopes to pull in more ratings. They keep alienating loyal viewers in attempts to be so-called diverse when in actuallity they sacrifice what the network used to be known for in favor of becoming cheeze competition with totaly different kinds of programing from very different kinds of networks. They fail to realize that there was a REASON we tuned into HGTV over those OTHER networks!

Reply

64 Wendy January 7, 2012 at 9:05 am

I couldn’t agree anymore with what Todd has to say about HGTV and getting rid of anyone over 30. I emailed some of the former hosts of some of my favorite shows and that was their basic response. I really am sick of all the house reno shows and property buying shows. I really miss the landscaping/gardening and outdoor home design shows of years ago, along with the great hosts that were informational and interesting. I wish Sandra well and will miss, once again, one of my favorite (over 30!) hosts.

Reply

74 todd January 6, 2012 at 9:33 am

that is so funny because they think they HAVE shaken things up by re-vamping GOOD programs with trivial nonsense. They STILL think they are ‘shaking things up’ everytime the cancel GOOD shows and fire GOOD talent and recruit personalities (I use that lightly) to host who are famous for being so-called famous. Be careful asking them to revamp, can it get any worse?

I wonder if Sandra’s line is the true reason behind the change….sometimes networks get rid of someone who is no longer bringing in the ratings.

I agree with the PPs about HGTV needing a re-vamp. Remember Design on a Dime and other shows? Now it is heavily focused on buying. It has grown boring, IMO.

How can you NOT like Sandra? For those who think she’s being “rude” or “harsh” to new buyers, why do you think she has to do that? Because so many first-time buyers these days are spoiled, unrealistic, and demanding. They want a fully updated, brand shiny new house with all the bells and whistles, with no work involved on their part, at ridiculously cheap prices. They need a reality check, and Sandra provided exactly that.

Loved Property Virgins with Sandra. Will not watch with Egypt. The comparison of her to Lauren Lake and Taniya Nayak is spot on! Where indeed does HGTV find these people?? Ditto re the prior comment about the Property Brothers. HGTV has certainly gone down hill. Only person I watch now is Candace Olson (but even her second show is not as good as her original Divine Design).

I LOVED Sandra. She always is just so helpful, friendly and realistic. I would love her to be my realtor… or friend! And you know what, having read her statement, I understand her perspective! She’s ready for something new! And she’s cracking a new market, and ONE I AM A PART OF! I love how she phrases it…

“For the first time in history, a significant number of women are buying real estate on their own, taking charge of their financial situations, whether they have delayed marriage, decided not to marry, or belong to the stat that says 41% of marriages end in divorce. Women buying real estate is not a fad, it’s history in the making and I am very proud to be a part of it on TV.”

This is me. This is my life. And this is a show I will and am going to watch if it makes it to the US and I hope it does!

The change was a shock to me as well. I saw the commercials and thought it was a spoof since I did not see any changes on the HGTV sight or Sandra’s Facebook at the time. I am so happy we will still see Sandra, and on such a relevant show.

Her expertise is needed. She helps people focus on the important considerations of a purchase. Her knowledge and realistic perspective really helped me stay grounded in maneuvering the purchase of my first home on my own. I was even telling my Realtor about ways we could get a good deal that he knew nothing about. You don’t see many Realtors on and off TV that know how to help buyers look past the easy fixes and recognize the great potential in homes.

Someone needs to tell people to stop focusing on elements as irrelevant as paint colors ! So silly.

I notice many commenting here are the single women that she will now draw a market for
HOWEVER… good luck seeing that show in the states. HGTV cares very little for this demographic, obviously, they keep canceling or changing successful shows like this. This is my BIGGEST problem with this network, they care very little for this and simmilar demographics. They seem to only want to attract the BRAVO network viewers for the past few years and they get rid of any talent that most of the REST of us can RELATE too. I sure wish we all had access to the Canadian programig by choice.

I love almost anything HGTV. I watch property virgins almost daily. I will miss Sandra but, I LOVE Egypt. Many HGTV fans may not know her, but she is a great and positive influence in hip hop culture and pop music. Maybe she will bring a little life to the show, because Sandra was a little bland.

Reply

99 pdevlin January 9, 2012 at 9:36 am

Hip hop culture and pop music(?) – well, surely THAT qualifies her to do a programme like this (right).

And Sandra was anything but bland – however, she WAS always professional with the deluded greedsters who (mostly) wanted something for nothing. The focus was on helping them finding what they could afford, not on putting the spotlight on herself. Something I can’t say about that big ham Eqypt.

I liked Sandra a lot and will miss her on Property Virgins. The problem I have with many of the shows on HGTV is often times they dont seem to represent real life. I liked Sandra, she was honest. And being first time home buyers they didn’t represent many of the shows where people have so much money I find it hard to connect. I wish Sandra nothing but success with her new show.

I’m sorry to see Sandra leave. I’ve enjoyed the show and been impressed by both her professionalism as a realtor and a teacher to neophyte buyers. She has always been well informed about each property and able to answer all questions asked her. In addition , she’s coached new buyers in what to look for, as well as what to ask when interested in buying property. Certainly, her patience when she occasionally has to deal with what could be considered very difficult people is to be applauded. She has always kept the needs of the individuals in mind rather than push her personal values upon them. I’m looking forward to her new show. Filling her position on Property Virgins won’t be easy.

I loved the make overs and the variety of properties she would show, there was nothing cookie cutter about the apartments. When I saw the ad for the new host I thought; there’s goes another show I’m not watching. The woman has zero presence and reminds me of Star Jones (yuck) in any case I wish her luck. I will be hoping that they air Sandra’s show here in the states. I loved how Sandra let the potential buyers go in and look over the property on their own and then answered their questions after they had a chance to see the house. Nothing annoys me more than being shadowed by a hard-sell realtor who tries to make silk pursed out of sow ears (House Hunters, anyone?).

Sandra’s ability to take the wind out of the sails of over-the-top homebuyers who wanted the sun, moon, and stars for next-to-nothing made the show and I agree about the incessant granite countertops and stainless steel appliances stuff. So tiresome and conformist. I hate the look personally. Also those who always said the bedroom and bathroom were small when they contained a seating area, dressing area, and enough storage for a small baseball team. Where are these people coming from? Spoiled and stupid, I’d say.

I learned more about buying real estate from her show than I ever thought possible.

I liked Sandra. She was open, honest, and told the truth. That’s what you hire a real estate agent for. You certainly don’t hire one to cow-tow to you. I wish Sandra a great deal of success with her new show and I really like the premise.

HGTV should drop the G out of their call sign. Where’s the GARDENING?

I hate selling NY and LA and all the buying and selling pretentious snobs on those shows. PLEASE! Air something with less holier than tho attitudes.

HGTV really does need a total make-over, to include all of these “man shows.” Property Brothers, and all the others that came out at the same time just don’t have the quality of former HGTV shows. And, they only show a couple of rooms being redone. I saw some shots of bathrooms in those dumps they “redo” and wouldn’t buy the place if you paid me to.

I understand targeting to certain demographics, but HGTV has gone overboard with some of the shows currently airing.

Lastly, I would like to see one show on HGTV where someone DOESN’T WANT GRANITE COUNTER TOPS! I hate granite. It isn’t warm and inviting like a kitchen should be. I also hate stainless. I am not interested in my kitchen looking like an industrial kitchen and/or restaurant. JUST ONE SHOW WHERE THEY SAY I DON’T LIKE GRANITE!!!!

Reply

148 Kevin January 10, 2012 at 10:03 pm

Laminate has become SO UNDER-RATED. It’s a hard-working, durable surface and available in so many great colors and style options…why spent more!? I don’t care if granite last forever; today’s design trends won’t! I’m pretty sure we’ll want to update our kitchen 10 or 15 years from now, and it’ll be easy and affordable to make a change. Some may think they’ll always love their “classic” granite, but I’m not sold.

149 Bonnie January 11, 2012 at 12:20 am

I never wanted granite. I have 13″ tiles on my counter and 7″ on the back splash. EASY to clean, do not have to worry about setting pans on it, won’t melt, scratch, etc. We put it in ourselves with a very narrow grout line that is the same color as the tile – reddish brown. Looks like leather. I have had it for 8 years now and it is fantastic.

150 Teri January 11, 2012 at 3:44 am

I used to have laminate and switched to granite as soon as I could afford it! For me the laminate was high maintenance…..couldn’t cut anything with a knife because it would scratch, had to always use hot pads because the laminate could burn, etc., etc! You don’t have to worry about any of that with granite…..very easy care! Plus I love how shiny it is and just the look and feel of natural stone. For me it is perfect and I will have it in my next house too!

Reply

151 Melissa January 11, 2012 at 6:36 am

I’m with you, Teri! I couldn’t wait to rip out the old laminate in here when we moved in several years ago and replace with granite. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my granite. There is nothing like it, and regardless of how people protest to the contrary, it’ll always be a selling point, should we ever decide to sell. Generally, people want granite. But mainly, I wanted granite. And I am not sorry! I’m not as sold on stainless appliances. I clean houses for a living, and some of my clients have stainless, and in my professional opinion, if they actually get used regularly, they’re a nightmare to keep clean and polished.

152 PLA January 12, 2012 at 12:34 am

Yup. I HATED having laminate. I never, ever looked clean, scratches showed up easily and it would chip for seemingly no reason. I have never regretted getting granite and I never will.

153 Mary January 11, 2012 at 12:52 am

Diane, I totally agree about the granite and stainless steel appliances. I had my kitchen remodeled last year and did NOT want stainless because with young grandchildren visiting often, I knew that I would be constantly battling fingerprints. I had a nice laminate countertop installed that resembles granite but is easy to care for. As for Sandra, I was very disappointed to see that she will no longer host Property Virgins. Not sure that I will continue to watch. I wishs her well with her new show and hope it gets picked up in the US.

Reply

154 Patsy January 15, 2012 at 3:27 pm

We have ceramic tile on counter and I like the durability for cutting and being able to put hot pans right on top without worrying. Have to say that one of the tiles broke when something fell out of an upper cabinet on it. That is not likely to happen with granite. I own stainless appliances and love the way they look in a kitchen but totally agree with Diane and Mary about them being a nightmare to keep clean. Don’t hear that from others who own them so I wonder if they don’t clean them or have a secret to keeping them clean. I miss Sandra on Property Virgins. Egypt just doesn’t have Sandra’s enthusiasm and doesn’t seem to have as many real estate tips for me. I would like to see Sandra again but I really don’t care about an all woman purchasing program like her new show sounds like it will be. I wish her luck with it in Canada though.

Reply

156 PLA January 12, 2012 at 12:37 am

Granite comes in so many colors, patterns and thicknesses and can be cut into a million shapes. I’ve never seen two granite countertops that looked the same. I can;t say the same for laminate.

Reply

157 Molly Nadler January 12, 2012 at 12:42 pm

I completely agree with the other comments. I have laminate counter-tops and off-white appliances. I really like the way both look and the laminate is sturdy and easy to clean. One concern I have is this wasteful mindset of throwing out perfectly good, clean, functional, and sometimes new appliances because they are not stainless. Is our society really that affluent? Even my friends who are relatively well-off don’t have granite counter-tops and most don’t have stainless appliances. None of them would discard good appliances for aesthetic reasons.

Reply

158 Petunia January 12, 2012 at 3:12 pm

I so agree with you! And not only that but granite emits radon, which can cause lung cancer in high doses. Plus kitchen stores tell me that granite needs to be sealed every 6 months and can stain.

I’m curious to see when granite and stainless steel ( which reminds me of the morgue) go out of style if people will want to keep the “timeless” granite and expensive appliances? I’m thinking not. And boy, will it be a bear to get the granite out.

Reply

159 Linda January 13, 2012 at 11:02 pm

Mon Dieu! (I’m sick of OMG) Almost as tired as I am of granite. I never liked it even when I was a kitchen designer and made a bigger commission if I sold it. It’s looking really 90′s to me now. Especially the shiny stuff. I had laminate installed the last time I updated my kitchen (10 years ago) and although it’s in perfectly good condition I must admit I am a bit tired of it (that’s me, that’s why I’m at this site!). Still, I wouldn’t tear it out just for fun and definitely not for ego which is what I believe granite is REALLY all about. The attributes of laminate, especially for the price, far outweigh those of granite. It’s no hardship to use a cutting board and set hot pots on the stovetop. I too have trouble with our current disposable, wasteful society.

160 sandi January 15, 2012 at 1:42 pm

Look into engineered solid countertops. Less expensive that granite and more stylish than laminate. Very durable. Also whats with stainless steel appliances?? Try keeping clean without children around, with children impossible!

Reply

161 shasta January 15, 2012 at 2:04 pm

I agree completely. Stainless steel appliances don’t FUNCTION any better! We currently have laminate countertops (although we are considering upgrading to a different material…so I might be one of “those” granite people in a few months. But we have white appliances…and LIKE them. We have no intention of changing appliance color, but we would honestly probably choose black before we went stainless.

I AGREE THESE YOUNG PEOPLE NEED TO THANK GOD THAT THEY ARE ABLE TO BUY A HOME. THERE ARE SO MANY THAT CAN’T AFFORD ANYTHING AND WOULD BE THANKFUL TO LAY DOWN IN A BED AT NIGHT. I HAVE TILE ON COUNTERS- OFF WHITE APPLIANCES AND LAMINATE FLOORS AND JUST THANK GOD I HAVE THAT. WISH SANDRA WAS STAYING DON’T KNOW HOW THE NEW LADY WILL DO.

Great news – it’s not just me annoyed by all the young home buyers that “need” granite and stainless! And what about when they hate the wall color – it’s like the end of the world. I’m going to miss Sandra, so really hope her new show will be televised in the US!

What’s the “young people” nonsense? I’ve seen plenty of shallow old people going for granite and stainless steel. Sorry, but it has nothing to do with someone’s age. If it makes you feel superior to think that way, though, have at it.

I live in a 100yo home with ceramic tiles in the kitchen. Nothing turns my stomach like seeing an older house with “modern” decor.

I’m with you on this. Saw the new version with Egypt. It’s just like House Hunters now. No letting the clients go in first to look, no guessing on the prices. Just Egypt standing there, looking uncomfortable. And I had a hard time understanding her because she speaks quickly and squashes words together. She had no sparkle.

I loved Sandra because she was so very professional. And she has a fantastic tv personality. I hope we can get her new show. I’m done with PV. It’s just one more dull show about people griping about granite – and double sinks in the bathroom.

I became a fan of HGTV because of Sandra, and TiVo so many of the shows now. I just watched the first episode of Property Virgins with Egypt, it’s going to be my last. Egypt lurking in the background looks odd, and it doesn’t give first time home buyers the chance to look alone. The need time to become first-time homeowners who expect to have EVERYTHING, including granite, stainless steel appliances, whirlpool tubs, etc. in their entry into homeownership and whine if they don’t get it. Egypt has too much of an over-the-top game show type personality, and it just doesn’t fit for PV. I think HGTV messed with a good thing and didn’t do it justice.

I’m watching the new host right now and the show is just not the same without Sandra. The voice over tips and commentary during the show throw me off with Egypt’s voice instead of Sandra’s higher-pitched voice. Although when she’s actually with the virgins and engaging with them she seems very nice and someone whom the virgins can get sound advice from. Her voice is almost “too radio”, if that makes sense. I miss Sandra, and I think I will have a hard time adjusting to the new face/voice. Sandra was perfect in this role and I’d buy my 1st home by her any day.

I still wonder if HGTV had some hand in this change. They’re forever changing hosts that you LOVE and replacing them with EHHHHHHHHHHHHHFFFFFF. And once again, they’ve done it. Probably comes down to money. They think they’re getting bigger bang for the buck with newbies until people stop watching because they LOVED the old hosts (Clive, Lisa, I’m calling you! And Sabrina Soto too.)

I agree, it’s another House Hunters…snoooooooooorrrrrrrrrre.

Also, what’s the deal with HGTV getting rid of everything except real estate shows? They used to have cool stuff on like Curb Appeal, If Walls Could Talk, and a show about decorating small spaces. And even the one about weir homes. Now all we ever see is 5 million reruns of House Hunters…snoooooooooooorrre. And PS, HGTV, “nice” job getting rid of Suzanne Wong of HH and replacing her with a sound-alike voice. Once again, messed with a great host and made the show unwatchable.

I just watched with Egypt as the new host, and while she was o.k., she had a little more sass (not in a good way) than Sandra. I think the host should complement the buyers, to make it all about them, not her. Sandra never tried to upstage her “virgins”. I miss Sandra, you are great!

Reply

195 Anne January 11, 2012 at 10:24 am

Totally agree. She kind of reminded me of Niecy Nash, and not in a good way. She shouldn’t be so obviously “the host”. Her job is to guide the homeowners. I didn’t like it. :(

Reply

196 Petunia January 12, 2012 at 3:25 pm

I love Niecy, I do not love Egypt. I see the comparison but with Niecey, I feel that it works because you need someone to spice up such glum subject matter. You don’t need someone on PV to try to outdo the buyers with sass.

No one said she was new to the telly, but the programmes she has done in the past don’t give her the knowledge and personality to be able to handle PV. For example, instead of making the show about the buyers, she made it about herself, via her obnoxious mugging for the cameras and her showboating. But even worse, she had no useful advice to give them. I hope the producers come to their senses and replace her soon or this programme is doomed.

Property Virgins was one of my favorite shows BECAUSE of Sandra Rinomato! I tend to loose interest when the hosts and formats change, it’s rarely for the better in my opinion. I quit watching Clean House for that very reason and not sure if it’s still on the air. Tonight aired a new episode of Property Virgins debuting the new host, it was lacking quite a bit. My favorite host is moving on, Sandra. Please HGTV, pick up her new show. I watched the new host of Property Virgins last night and in my opinion she is trying too hard, trying to make the show about HER and not the property virgins. Sandra is not like that. Maybe Egypt will calm down if she makes it on the show but those of us who are Sandra fans need Sandra. I learned so much from her and I still love learning. I bought my home 23 years ago as a single female. I’m sure I will continue to learn from her new show. HGTV Please Pick Up “Buy Herself” Please! and Egypt, Chill out , Calm Down.

I will miss Sandra. I appreciated her real estate expertise. This show was a good way to educate yourself about the current real estate markets. However, there were times my patience was tried by what virgin buyers were searching for and their price points! Does anyone do their homework before searching for probably the biggest purchase of their lives? All in all it was an interesting way to see what is out there in so many areas. I know nothing about the new host, but I don’t think the show will be the same.
I love all the “house hunters” shows. It helps me see the world in a different way, getting to visit all the foreign markets and other areas of the US and Canada.

You do realize most of that nonsense is staged, right? Sandra wasn’t negotiating for anything, and these people generally have the home they’re buying already picked out. They have their own agents who do the negotiating, and they know what they want. The “let’s go look at houses you can’t afford” and other foolishness is all for show. On other HGTV shows, the people are already under contract to purchase one of the three houses they are going to “look at.”

Loved Sandra Rinomato – Egypt Sherrod – not so much. I know Sandra left & I wanted to like Egypt, but just couldn’t (even tried to ignore her somewhat grating voice). This show is NOT Property Virgins – more like House Hunters or Selling NYC. There was no real guidance by the host – just pushing of overpriced condos in sketchy areas of currently trendy Williamsburg, which is really funny to a native Brooklynite like myself. The block that condo that she sold the couple was on is always filled w/vehicular traffic and most shops & restaurants are a 10 block walk. Just a real disappointing show.

For some reason I’ve NEVER liked Sandra. I’ve always found her to be so condescending. I’m sure a lot of it is the show and its format, and I agree with a lot of the things she says sometimes, just her delivery often comes off rude. That said, Egypt seems to be lacking the true essence of what I consider the show to be as well. Eh, maybe the show itself is just not for me.

Sandra had a great way of saying it like it is without offending. I appreciated that because some people just need to be told! I always found her to be full of spot-on advice and recommendations. I loved watching the show largely because it was originally all shot in Toronto, my hometown. One of the reasons I loved watching PV was Sandra’s unique way of helping 1st time buyers realize their wishes don’t always correspond with budgets. She never talked down to them but did reality orientations. Plus she has a great sense of humor and laugh along with a great deal of patience dealing with some yuppie type “I want it all”personalities. I will miss you Sandra. Also I have just remodeled my guest bathroom and used engineered solid surface counter-top. I will definitely look into this when we do our kitchen. Less expensive than granite but more unique and stylish than laminate.

No one can replace Sandra. She had a great personality and a sense of humor. I saw the new Property Virgins and let me say I will not watch it any more.

Way to go Sandra I hope your new show will reach the US.

Sincerely
Susan

This is my favorite show on HGTV. I watch all Sandra’s shows. Her personality is great, and I am so glad to hear that she is not leaving, but getting a new show. I can’t wait to watch. Sandra just has so much chemistry with the homebuyers, and she guides them and really fights for them to get a good, fair price. Realtors like that don’t come along often. Sandra is definitely the cream of the crop! I live in the States and if HGTV doesn’t carry Sandra’s new show in the States, I will be boycotting HGTV.

I’m so glad to see her go, enough already of Toronto. I would fire her on the spot if they sent her to me as my agent. Good riddance

So sorry to see that Sandra is gone. Have not yet seen the new version but it does not sound too exciting. I wish Sandra was still on PV. Hope her new show will be shown in the states.

I miss Sandra!!! The show has lost that special, warm charm that I always loved. Very sad. Bring her back!

Just saw Egypt host Property Virgins. She needs to wear clothing that fits instead of a couple sizes too small. AND please don’t say, “What do WE like?” If she is talking to a couple, it is appropriate to say, “What do YOU like?”

I, so miss Sandra. The new host isn’t easy to listen to…therefore I will not be watching PV any longer. Sorry, Sandra was the best. Bye, bye….

Egypt is terrible and looks like a someone all gussied up for a late night sleazy dive night out. No host should upstage their clients either. It’s not about you, it’s about the buying process….

I’m wondering if from her comments on her Facebook page if she didn’t get dumped. Twice.

Wish Sandra was on air — miss her, truly. Sad to say it, but I turn off Property Virgins now that she’s gone. I’m also going to take it off auto-record. Sorry HGTV — no interest now.

I was shocked and very saddened when I turned on my fav program, PV and Sandra was not there! I hate, hate to see Sandra go and miss her. I wish her the best on her new show and hope the U.S. will pick it up asap! I have been watching property virgins since day one and House Hunters, they’re my favorite shows, my husband knows that very well. I don’t care for the new host, Egypt. She’s no Sandra, at ALL. Sandra was cool and genuine, and always knew exactly what to say in any situation. HGTV, I will not be watching any more of property virgins, bye, bye PV. Many blessings to you Sandra in your new show, but please, please come back to PV. I love Sandra, bring Sandra back, please . Sandra you will be so missed!

I watched PV yesterday and let me say that it has lost everything in my point of view, the new host is a nice lady but she’s not Sandra, personality is just not there, no click. I mean I used to watch PV religiously even had it auto record just because it was nice to see Sandra. I do hope HGtv gets on getting her new show out here but as for PV I will no longer will be watching. It’s just not the same.

There is such a silence in the change from Sandra to the new host of “Property Virgins” that it has become deafening. Sandra was (is) so genuine in her tv persona that she made me the viewer totally welcomed and thoroughly engaged. Like manyof the other comments….I too will find another place to spend my viewing pleasure.

I loved Sandra hosting Property Virgins. Not only is she extremely knowledgeable about real estate and market conditions, she has a good understanding of contruction and remodeling costs and possibilities. I’m anxious to see her new show and wish her good luck.

Dear Sandra, I loved the honesty that you have to be with people that probably a little difficult to be with at times. Anyway thank you for the time you spent on the property virgin show,it was my favorite….but hopefully your new show will be shown in the U.S My father was Canadian and I think the stations we get from there are great. Best luck to you and your family in the future and keep us posted everyonce in a while on your new program. Thank You, Georgene Scheiner…Ca.
