When a reader named Maureen sent me the link to a $1.6 million house for sale in Highland Park, Illinois, with the subject title “Red & Green Kitchen!” I imagined it would be something kind of homey. Maybe it was the perfect Christmas kitchen? The outside of the house looked pretty traditional, so I expected a traditional green and red kitchen.
But I was wrong.
There’s nothing traditional about it, really.
Now I know why Maureen put the exclamation point in “Red and Green Kitchen!” You wouldn’t need coffee to wake up in the morning here, would you?
*UPDATE: I just remembered a similar red kitchen that I posted a couple of years ago. It’s an example of how you can do a contemporary red kitchen right. I think the key is to have lots of white, better flooring, fewer upper cabinets, and, well, no neon green… It’s still not my personal style, but the execution is a lot better. You can see it here and decide for yourself!
