I’m Decorating for Fall–Are You?

by hookedonhouses on September 7, 2010

family room pedestal bowlDo you change things around in your house for fall? It was finally cool enough over the weekend (in the ’70s–love it!) that I felt like getting out the pumpkins. I know they’re not everybody’s favorite colors, but I like all the orange and gold that comes with this season. It makes my house feel warm and happy.

It doesn’t all have to be orange, though. I love my mercury-glass pumpkins, too.

Has fall made an appearance at your house yet? How do you decorate for it?

I always love your simple style.

It is still so warm here that I haven’t put everything out. I love your things, very pretty and very neat!

Fall is my favorite season!!! I love the colors, the leaves changing, the sweater weather, my horse gets fuzzy, foxhunting season, pumpkins, apples, Halloween and then Thanksgving! I decorate accordingly and love the cozy feel of autumn.

Lynda September 7, 2010 at 8:40 am

Love it! Love fall!! Living in South Florida where it is basically seasonless, it’s almost a necessary must to recreate seasons for a change (especially being a Jersey Girl!)

Looking lovely… enJOY!

I decided that I’ll start next week… I’ll have to get the hubby to go into the attic first… I can’t get the heavy ladder down, otherwise I’d be getting ready this week… I’m hoping that it starts to cool a little too, so that I can start dragging out the cozy throws and making hearty dinners! Fall is my favourite time of year! Lx

It’s the season I’m most anxious to decorate for..I love it. I got excited once again when I went in the basement and opened my box of fall decorations.
My bathroom is black and white, so I change my accesories to match my mood or seaosn. I just got out the eggplant rug, towels and other accessories to usher in Fall, next will come the burnt orange!
I LOVE your mercury glass pumpkins! Can you share where you found them?

Not quite ready for fall decorating…and also not a huge fan of the oranges and golds in my home (although I love them in others’ homes!) We JUST started to get summer weather here in the Bay Area, so I’m still hanging onto it!
Your photos are great, by the way. I love your dining room – very inviting. And that splash of orangey gold from the pears is perfect against your blue sideboard.

I do a wreath on the front door and usually change out whatever’s in the hurricane globes on my mantel, but that’s about it. Oh, wait. I also do pumpkin topiaries on either side of the front door. I love Fall … it’s my favorite season … but I just don’t make the time to decorate much for it indoors.

I’m totally one of those people who starts pulling out the pumpkins early. Once we hit the second week of August, I’m so totally over summer. This year when I brought out the fall decor, it was 88 degrees. It’s a sickness, I think. ;)

After driving back and forth to Peoria from Cincy this weekend, I have decided it is fall. Not because of the temps, not because of the calendar, but because all of the corn is dry. Green is no longer the predominant color in the midwest. The leaves will soon follow suit, but regardless, it is now fall.

Love, love, LOVE your mercury glass pumpkins! They’re gorgeous and such a nice autumnal touch. I love decorating for fall, it’s my favorite season, but I’m really looking forward to decorating for Halloween! It’s much too hot here still in PA, so I’m not sure when the scarecrow, mums, pumpkins and gourds will go out. I definitely plan on doing some Halloween inspired posts! :) Can’t wait to see yours!

I so glad I’m not the only one. I thought I too early. Living in Fl as we do, it will a long time before it even feels like fall, but that doesn’t stop me. Since I had a three day week-end I thought it was a good time to start. My husband dug in our hot attic to bring down all my bins of fall decorations. I even went to Home Goods on Saturday hoping to find a mercury glasss pumpkin like you got last year, but no luck. Of course I did not come away empty handed and found a beautiful garland that will be great for my office at work. People know which office is mine because it’s the one with the wreath on the door not matter what time of year.

Paula Doelling-Lynn September 7, 2010 at 3:42 pm

I’m “Fall” ing for Autumn. I love the color combinations of spicy pumpkins, gourds, indian corn, maple leaves and haystacks. Blend in yummy apple cider taste and caramel apples plus wood burning stove aroma and we’re all set in the Midwest Fall!!

Jocelyn Stott September 7, 2010 at 4:38 pm

I LOOOOVE to decorate for fall, but this year I am not sure how much I will do. In an effort to save for a house, my husband and I made the dedicated decision to live frugally and are in a tiny, tiny apartment. It takes a lot of work to keep it tidy as it can easily feel cluttered. I have bins full of adorable fall decor, but it might just have to stay in there until I have the space to put it out. I will, however, find a way to do some things. In fact, I bought a pumpkin spice candle the other day, which is exciting. Nothing like certain smells to get you in the fall mood.

Love the glass pumpkins. The only reason I like fall, is for the tree colors and the cooler weather. Don’t like the oranges/etc for decorating. It reminds me too much of the 60s/70s decorating schemes. All that avocado and orange ! Orange countertops and green fridges….!

My gosh! I’m hanging on to every last drop of summer! We were at the beach until 6:30 last night and only came home then because the kids had school today. We’ve had the best summer though so once it decides it’s time to turn to autumn here in Massachusetts I’ll go along without a tantrum (this year).

I just love to decorate for fall. I have a collection of pumpkins (25 years old now, believe it or not!), and I love scattering them throughout the house. It’s funny though–I’m dragging my feet a little bit on getting out the pumpkins. I’ve done a little bit of fall decorating, but I haven’t felt like getting out my pumpkins yet. Maybe I’ll wait ’til mid-September before I get those out. We did have a bit of fall-like weather this weekend, so I can’t blame it on the heat. . . I’m just dragging my feet.

I remember your Fall Tour of Homes from last year. Yours was the very first tour of homes I’d ever participated in, and it was so exciting! Are you going to do it again? Yours was a little later in the season, it seems, so that I had gone all-out by the time I joined your party. Such fun. :)

I’m in the process now. I’ve taken off my white slipcovers to reveal the dark fabric underneath. I’m taking down lightweight curtains and replacing them with heavier ones. I’m replacing rugs that were rolled up in the springtime, and I’m switching out light colored pillows for darker ones. I also change lightweight bedspreads for duvets with feather comforters.

One thing I did this spring that I’ve never done before; I took the dust ruffles off the beds. I’ll replace them soon. It’s so much fun cozying up the house for cool weather!

I wish I could decorate for Fall now! It’s my favorite season, but Fall doesn’t usually arrive here til October (if we’re lucky). It’s still in the upper 90s here. It makes me want to move North every year when all the Autumn fashion and home decor comes out. I just can’t decorate for fall until it gets cool outside. Hi Julia! Hope you are well. I do decorate for Fall and I need to bring up the rest of my decor from the basement this weekend. I do try to keep my Fall and my Halloween stuff separate, so I won’t put any Halloween stuff out until October 1st. I love the warm colors and I tend to decorate most of the public areas in our house in warm colors.
