Calling All Princesses…Chateau LeMoine is For Sale

by hookedonhouses on July 7, 2010

Renovated Chateau

Have you ever wished you could live inside a Disney cartoon? Do you frequently burst into song while happy woodland creatures frolic at your feet? Then this is your chance to live in a “castle” fit for an animated princess.  The Chateau LeMoine, on the market in L.A. for $2.67 million, boasts a Juliet balcony, a turret, a gatehouse, and even a moat.

Chateau's pool

According to an article in the Larchmont Chronicle, “The Chateau LeMoine, located in Brookside, was built for love, a birthday gift from French architect Earl LeMoine to his wife in 1926. She fell in love with the land and its pretty little brook, and several years later, the architect surprised her with a chateau resembling those in their native south of France.”

When the current owners bought it, the Chateau had fallen into disrepair. A lot of work went into renovating the house, inside and out.

Photoshopped Castle House 4

Huffington Post says, “This conspicuous French chateau-style home in Hancock Park has acquired a Kinkade-esque sheen on the real estate listing thanks to Photoshop, possibly to attract any Lisa Frank fans?”

Would you want to live in a castle?

I’m not a huge fan of French Chateau’s but admittedly, this is a gorgeous house. :)

I really like that it’s castle on the outside, and more modern on the inside. I think it’s every princesses dream to live in a castle!

Janet July 7, 2010 at 9:08 am

I love the kitchen, but the exterior is a bit to Disney for me. I am sure kids would love it!

Donna July 7, 2010 at 9:13 am

Enchanting! BUT deceiving! The inside does not match the outside… TOO much modern flare in there and if someone is to fall in love with the exterior they would expect the same when they walk in the front door… The interior should at LEAST have been kept neutral… Thanks for sharing

Catherine July 7, 2010 at 9:32 am

Yes, I WANT THIS HOUSE! :-D However, I would like to see pics that haven’t been so altered with computer!

I’d love to live in a castle, but not that one. Too Disney and airy-fairy. Something more rustic and gothic perhaps?

Valerie July 7, 2010 at 9:41 am

Well, I’m more cottage-style myself…think Aurora/Briar Rose and the three fairies from Sleeping Beauty…ha!, but I must say that this does look like a stunning home. Perfect some princess that wants to blur the lines between reality and fairytale!

Spot-on with the Disney ref Julia – this is no French chateau I’ve ever seen! Perfect for Barby. Ugh. I hate it.

It’s not very romantic on the inside, but the outside is gorgeous!
The idea of a castle sounds great, but real ones would be cold and drafty, not my style!

You know, I was all excited to look at the photos thinking I would love it, but it is a little too fairy princess for me. The interiors are quite lovely, but the exterior would have Disney princess songs permanently in my head. And yep, “someday my prince will come” is whirling around there right now. No go.

Kristen @ More Than Mulberries July 7, 2010 at 10:31 am

A house like that in Hancock Park? I’ll take it. And I DO like to sing the “Working Song” while sweeping….how fun – why not live in something a little fun and different? My kids would have a blast. That is a fantastic neighborhood too – the houses are charming. (Pun intended!)

I agree with a few of the others…I like the more modern look inside. The kitchen is amazing!! Love the pool area. :) Maybe I’ll call Belle and Briar Rose and see if they want to be roomies with me. ;)

What a fun post!

Samantha July 7, 2010 at 11:35 am

That house is calling my name! And how fun would it be to rent out certain portions for little girls’ (or big girls’!) birthday parties?

You’re spot on with the Disney reference, Julia. It’s not a place I’d want to live, but I bet my 4 year-old granddaughter would love it!

Cheri @ I Heart Old Houses July 7, 2010 at 12:48 pm

I like little storybook cottages, but this is a bit too ornate for me…I can go to Disneyland to get my castle fix, thank you very much. And seriously, what’s up with the dream sequence fog in the listing photos?

hookedonhouses July 7, 2010 at 3:15 pm

It’s the magic of Photoshop! :)

Jillian July 7, 2010 at 1:37 pm

It could be a nice place to rent out for weddings and themed parties.

The Little Red Shop July 7, 2010 at 2:26 pm

Okay…14 year old me SOOO wants to have it! That’s about when I decided I wanted to restore a castle some day. Old me…not so much…but I’ll take the real deal across the pond!

: )

Kate (Little Beach Bum) July 7, 2010 at 3:39 pm

Good golly….how I would love to live in that princess castle! Wow. It reminds me of the house that Cinderella lived in in the live-person musical version with Brandy and Whitney Houston, for some reason.

I SUPPOSE I could spend my spare 2.67 million dollars on that….Sigh.

I’m usually not a big castle fan, but I love it. I think this castle would be fun as a vacation home. Thanks for sharing it with us.

sandy@oohlafroufrou July 7, 2010 at 3:58 pm

One moment please … excuse me, but I have to adjust my tiara. Okay, I’m back. Yes, I’ll take it. Does it come with staff, I wonder? (tiny personal note: oh my gosh, that kitchen is positively luscious — the perfect kitchen for my butler to feed me grapes in. ;)

I’ll take it!! Now where am I going to get 2.67 Million dollars??

Of course I would like to live in a castle. ;) This is a beautiful house.

Lisa T. July 8, 2010 at 12:28 am

It even has a tower?! The kitchen and bath look like jewel boxes. When you were talking about personal style earlier this week, I remember thinking how I had none because I like a lot of everything. Well it turns out my style must be Disney :-0 with some iridescent glass tiles thrown in for good measure. Such a great place!

I could go for it, throw a little orange and brown in there and take down those drastic blue curtains. I’m feelin’ it.

Amy July 8, 2010 at 2:55 pm

I’ll admit it. I kind of love it, but I’d definitely make some different decor choices. How much fun would it be to have a moat?
