Julia! My favorite post in all of blog land! I too am obsessed with porches. I have a house with a almost complete wrap around porch and am waiting for my new camera to take photos. I love the photo of the stone you took! I wish upon wish that my boston ivy was crept all up the sides before I showed photos thou. I also am obsessed with landscaping around wrap around porches. Can you imagine that you got an email from someone who grew up in a house you blogged about?! That is so cool, really. I love me a house with a porch, so I couldn't possibly play favorites here. Before my husband passed away, he would say, “I’m going to build you a front porch. We may not be able to afford a house to attach it to, but you WILL have a porch.” I think he would love the house with the porch that I have now.

Have you ever visited Charleston? You would be in heaven. Many of the classic homes have side porches, designed to catch the cross currents in the sweltering days before air conditioning. From what I understand, the upstairs had the side porches too and they used them as sleeping porches in the summer.
