Election Day: Vote for Your Favorite House Style

vote-flag-button

It’s the first Tuesday in November, which is Election Day in the U.S. Did you vote yet? A year ago I asked you to vote for your favorite kitchen on Election Day. This year I thought it would be fun to vote for your favorite house style.

The Plan Collection, one of my sponsors, offers luxury house plans online. I chose a few of them from various styles to show you, and then we’ll take a vote to see which one is most popular.

Bungalow:

Arts and Crafts-Kerwin

You can see interior photos (love the entry!) and floor plans for the Kempas model here.

Coastal Style:

This house sits on the water and has a spot for your boat. Aerial photos and more here.

Historic:

Historic-White House

This house may be even more grand than the White House that it resembles. You can see more photos and get the house plans of this model, called the Sussex, here.

Contemporary:

European Style:

Tudor:

Rather than just European, I specifically love French country. I chose Tudor on this, however, because French country wasn’t one of the choices.

Oh my goodness! I cannot believe it was a year ago we voted on those kitchens! (Or the other thing we voted for!)
I’d take any of those if someone was giving it to me, but I love the bungalow.

I’m bungalow all the way in this case. No bipartisanship (or would that be septapartisanship in this case?) from me.

What a great post!
I voted for the Tudor Style! I just love that English style!
Thank you so much for sharing!

From just first impressions, it was a hard choice for me between the bungalow (I am such a sucker for the Craftsman details) and the Tudor. But I gotta go with the Tudor! I want that staircase in my life!! Love it! Thanks for sharing!

I live in a bungalow but I would have to say contemporary is my favorite. It’s the clean lines and all of the windows.

I can’t believe most picked bungalow – did you see the floorplan on the coastal – OH – MY – GODDDD!!! That was amazing… no comparison here!

Bungalow. Definitely Bungalow.

I guess I didn’t realize it was election day – I’m having a bit of a vote/debate on my blog today too. I need all the help I can get. LOL

I went with the Tudor. I do have to say though that I absolutely love old farm houses. I would pick one of them over any “modern-day” home anytime!

What a fun post – lovely houses, all of them. I voted for bungalow thinking I’d be in the minority, but it turns out I’m in the vast majority! So funny!

I chose other, because my favorite style was not represented. It is shingle style. Where I live, in Monmouth County, NJ, many of the rambling 100 year old beach houses are shingles. I love your blog and visit often! Thank for the inspiration!

12 Sarah @ Dream In Domestic November 3, 2009 at 8:51 am

I said Bungalow because they look so cozy and give the vibe that a family lives in them. I love most styles of houses, though, so this was a tough one!

13 Amanda @ Serenity Now November 3, 2009 at 8:54 am

I had to go with Bungalow b/c it seemed most like something my family would live in and not destroy. ;) I didn’t like the 1 car garage tacked on to the side though…I’d rather have it incorporated elsewhere as a Bonus room or Family room…..

I’d take any of those houses in a second!! I was going to vote bungalow — love that Craftsman style — but then looked at the pictures of the contemporary house and decided to choose that one. Love all the windows and the curves :-)

15 Amy November 3, 2009 at 8:57 am

I surprised myself and voted contemporary. I’d usually pick a bungalow but the windows in the contemporary were too much too resist. And I didn’t like the rustic feel of the Bungalow inside.

16 Kirsten November 3, 2009 at 9:01 am

I’m with a few of your readers who wish there was old farmhouse/shingle style available. But, as we’re talking new-built houses, I guess the ramshackle-leaning-towards-decrepit style would be tough to come by. :) For me, the simpler the better, even when it comes to Dream Homes.

17 Stephanie @ A Fine House November 3, 2009 at 9:06 am

My pick was the bunglaow. Our first home was a bungalow and I will forever be in love. Great website with the floor plans. I’m going over to check it out now. Do they have floor plans for real people budgets?

18 Anna November 3, 2009 at 9:21 am

It was a close call between European and Tudor, although, really, Tudor style comes from Europe. I REALLY love Tuscan Villas, which weren’t a choice, so I guess it would have been really close between European, Tudor, and Other. Thanks for hosting this, it was fun!

This is a great poll, Julia! I ‘m kind of surprised at the current majority vote for bungalow – I thought there would be more of a spread.

What a fun idea! I voted for the bungalow and now see it’s a very popular choice :) . I love the European, but it doesn’t fit my family. I’m guessing the bungalow is so popular because it’s the one most of us can relate to. If I lived in the European, I’d be dragging my kids out of that fountain all day long!

I can’t believe its been a YEAR !!!

I am loving 2 the Coastal and the Tudor……hmmmm

25 greenie November 3, 2009 at 10:49 am

For me it’s a toss up between bungalow and tudor. Normally, I would go for bungalow, but given these specific choices, I would go with the tudor. So, I voted tudor. Love looking at floor plans! :-)

26 Jackie W. November 3, 2009 at 10:54 am

Bungalow …

27 Jenny November 3, 2009 at 11:24 am

I voted for the Tudor. I can’t believe the hugeness of these houses, but yet they have the smallest laundry rooms. I hate when you have to walk through a laundry room from the garage.

So for the best options and layout, I went with the Tudor.

Okay, now that I have spent two hours going thru home plans on this wonderful site you recommended I must really get back to work…….very addicting. I can’t choose a style I really love them all. Just depends on the setting.

I LOVE the theme today. What a fun post!! I voted for the bungalow. I just love the porch. The new homes that are being built in my area seem to be like this bungalow/craftsmen style home. I just love it!

32 Slowish Food November 3, 2009 at 12:47 pm

Sigh. I voted for bungalow, but with more than 50% of the respondents voting the same way, I’m feeling rather average. :) Thanks for the fun quiz!

I was born on Long Island and live at the Jersey Shore…not living near the ocean is almost unthinkable to me. It is my comfort zone…that coastal house has it all. Lots of big spacious rooms and a kitchen to die for. Now I need to go out and buy a lottery ticket so that I can build a house like this (lol)

I chose other because my greatest love is farmhouse style.

35 Kim November 3, 2009 at 2:56 pm

I went with the bungalow house because I love open floorplans and it’s the perfect size.

39 Holley November 3, 2009 at 6:03 pm

I’m usually a craftsman bungalow gal all the way, but I have small kids and I hate having their bedrooms so far from mine.

So I went with the contemporary for the beautiful windows (I’d have to live in that house with that view btw) and because I prefer to have the bedroom area separate from the entertaining/socializing area.

I love looking at house plans.

40 Kellye November 3, 2009 at 6:42 pm

Wow…all of the houses are gorgeous and absolutely humongous! I have to go w/the European (scaled down, of course), which is a huge change from my earlier days as a contemporary girl.

41 Kellye November 3, 2009 at 6:46 pm

PS–Mediterranean is actually my preference, but of these it was European.

42 jennybek November 3, 2009 at 7:19 pm

We have moved & didn’t get our registration in time to vote, so this is great. I can honestly say I voted today! Thanks!
I love the Tudor. Everything about these houses makes me smile. The sloping roofline, the windows. I have always dreamed of living in one. Maybe one day.
Happy election day!

I chose other, because none of the houses featured tickled my fancy. I love a house on the coast, but it has to be Nantucket style. And I love historic houses, but not big houses that look like the white house. I like modest old farmhouses. Out of the houses featured though, my favorite was the bungalow, but I still had to choose other, since the Bungalow style would not be my first pick in “real life”. :)

48 Laura @ the shore house November 5, 2009 at 2:56 pm

Mine would be Victorian which I guess should have been “other,” but I picked Bungalow which was my favorite of this lot. I don’t think I have enough of an superiority complex to live in the mini White House. :-)
