Do you have an iPod yet? I’m what they call a “late adopter” when it comes to technology, so I just got my first one–a new iTouch that you can put photos, music, and videos on, browse the Internet from, and download all kinds of helpful applications for. I was contacted by DuPont last week and asked to try their new mySurface app on the iPod that they sent me to see what I thought.
The mySurface app is simple to download, and it’s free. It’s also easy to use (if I can do it, anyone can!). It has a gallery of Corian and Zodiaq surface colors and textures you can look through to see what you like. Or compare them to counters you come across at a friend’s house or during a home tour to find the closest match! You can save your favorites, share them with others via e-mail, and request samples.
I need to replace my kitchen countertops, so this app has been really helpful for me to see what various options would look like in the room.
DuPont has given me an iTouch to give away to one of my lucky readers! I think you’ll love it. You’ll be able to download fun, free apps like mySurface and try them for yourself.

I am so behind on technology. I don’t even have an MP3 player let alone an iPod or iTouch. My friends mock me.
But I love idea of the my surface application…I saw someone with copper (not the color – the metal) counters online and I so want to see more of it. I’m intrigued but skeptical (is it durable? does it dent easily? claims to be naturally antimicrobial…) But I love checking out different counter top surfaces and planning my dream kitchen in my head.

I love the app from Sherwin Williams where you take a picture and it makes a color scheme for you based on the picture!!

I was on on another blog that was telling about the iHandy app. That would be awesome for me… because nothing I hang on my walls are ever level!
I have my 12 year old son’s old nano iPod and he saved his birthday money for the iTouch — which I think is really cool. His nano, that I now use, isn’t connecting any more when you plug it into the computer so I have to listen to the same songs over and over and over again. I could use a new one.

I think a cool app would be one that allows you to design a room — it’s a pretty simple idea, but it would be especially cool with the finger motions you can do with the iPod Touch. You could input the dimensions of the room, and then edit it’s shape if necessary. Then there would be a library of furniture, paint colors, rugs, decorations, etc, that you could play around with. Fun!

I would like an app that you could enter the name of the paint company and it would have it’s fan deck of paint chips available to you. When you select a color it gives you several options for complimentary paint colors for other objects in the room.
Oh my, I’m praying for an iTouch. Is that bad? Hope not, because man do I want to win this lovely! I have an antique iPod,… you know, the first generation Nano. Yeah, that’s embarrassing. I have not idea what apps already exist (beyond the little leveler, which I think is the coolest thing in the whole world, btw). However, if I could create an app, I would create one that….. had a frame matting preview program. You would be able to take a picture of the print to be framed and then test the picture with different color mattings to ensure that you find the best color combination possible. (I think it’s hard to do with the right angle pieces at the hooby stores.) Just an idea.

Wow, I would love to win this. I’m sure there is an application somewhere for the exterior of a house…paint, doors, windows, landscape, etc. It would be so nice to see the final results before you invest a lot of time and money for something that may not have the curb appeal you were hoping for.

I’m sure it already exists, but I would love an App that will tell you the average ammount of yardage of fabric you need to purchase for a certain project. For example, I want to buy enough fabric to slipcover a wing chair. I can look it up and see that I need about 5 yards.

An application I think would be useful is one that holds all measurements – so if you forget a room is 11×11 not 10×12 or you need a 3 foot piece of board, not a 3.5 foot piece…that kind of thing.
Another application that might be useful for a gardener is a place to keep the inventory of plants you have and a wishlist of plants you want (with photos) I always forget when I go to the nursery exactly what I am looking for!

I would like a multi purpose textile and paint sampler–something that already has all colors of major paint brand, then lets you shoot and save a photo of a textile (swatch of fabric, or an actual pillow, rug, quilt, curtain. Then it would let you create a palette to see how different things look together.

Think of how handy it would be if, as a photographer and currently undertaking a HUGE home restoration/ building, I could take a picture, download cabinets and rearrange them thousands of time to design my kitchen. So do I want upper cabinets or shelves? wood or paint? Plus I could cover the floor with different tile samples! They should totally invent this feature, if they haven’t yet!

I would love an iPod and I love your blog.
An App where you take a picture of a paint color on a wall (or other) and it matches it with the paint colors that work well with this color for decorating ideas. Also – links to examples of the combination (pictures) so you can visualize the color combination. This would be a godsend for the decorating needed by all at times of a house refresh with new paint.

I think one of my favorite apps would be the level. What a neat thing… I mean, let’s be real- levels are big and bulky and hard to actually level without having another person handy. Most of my projects I can’t wait long enough for someone to come home so I usually end up holding the level with my hands, the pencil in my mouth, trying to balance on a step stool- you get the idea- it’s an accident waiting to happen! My daughter has an IPhone and she loves it!!! She stays in contact with her husband who is in the Army and serving overseas. She has an application on there that is my favorite because when I am helping her with her 15 month old daughter (my 1st grandbaby) Gracie, she loves the SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS one. It makes things go a little more smoothly when we are at the grocery store or wherever. Gracie has a little brother, Logan, who is almost 5 months old, so the distraction with my own IPod would help so much!!!!
Plus they are building a new house so these decorative apps would be SO HANDY!!!!

Oh I am completely with you – the cell phone I’m carrying around is the same one we purchased with our service almost 4 years ago. I don’t like change much and the idea of learning the iphone… daunting. However, I’ve heard they’re a ton of fun and if they don’t already have it, I’d love an app where I could load pictures of my rooms and then go nuts trying to redecorate it when I was out & about… take a picture of a pillow, have it sized – does it look good in the room or is it too much, etc. Maybe I’m asking too much of technology but I just don’t have an eye for what would look good in a room once I get it home. It’s beautiful in the store but will it work in my house….

Just last week I washed my sons backpack, and what was hidden in the strap pocket, but my ipod, that I let him borrow, now the ipod is in ipod heaven.ooooooooooh please please pick me!!!

I don’t have anything with apps yet, but I think one that allows you to manipulate/change a photo of a room with various options would be great – changing a wall color, adding pre-set furniture pieces with various styles…. MIKI

I would love to have a i-pod touch to give to my husband as a birthday present. He lost his on a turbulent airline flight two years ago and is really missing having one.
The app that would be most useful to me is the paint chip app from BM.

How exciting that you got to test the iTouch out, too! It’s been interesting how Dupont has marketed this app; I’ve seen three other blogs giving away iTouches this week. I completely agree with your app suggestion to match paint colors. Often it’s the times that I don’t have the paint chips in my purse that I actually need them!
