Just found this blog and I love it!

While I agree with that the decor is definitely not attractive, what everyone isn’t getting is that this is a 4300 acre working cattle ranch. Many farmers/ranchers are land rich and money poor. Even though it may seem like it should be extravagant because of the price, when you divide the $16.8 million by the number of acres, it comes out to $3500 per acre not including the house. That’s cheap! The deer heads were to show the hunting on the land as mentioned in the listing. That’s actually pretty typical in rural land listings. Also, since the place is a cattle ranch I don’t think they were too concerned about vegetarians. It’s not exactly their market, you know.

I am completely speechless. If I lived in this $16.8 million home, the first thing I’d do would be to get rid of the Lazy-boy chairs.

Just looked at the listing and what a MESS. It’s not even attractive in the vintage sense. And being a vegetarian, I’m not too keen on seeing dead animal skulls and deer head displayed everywhere. Yuck… I think I’ll spend my 16M elsewhere…

Well Julia, actually there’s more wisdom to what you said than you may think (according to feng shui principles). And Maya@CompletelyCostal alluded to it already.
For luck in love and relationships, the Chinese are extremely conscious of giving or displaying things in pairs. Many good luck and prosperity symbols come in pairs–the ultimate being the dragon. For love, it’s the mandarin duck. Others are butterflies, fish and footprints (from the Buddha).
I wonder if these Texans were hip to feng shui. …Or maybe it’s a reincarnation thing.

Clearly you’re paying for some serious property. The house just needs to be leveled or it can be the guest house. If you can afford almost 17 mil you can afford to build a nice house. You can just about visualize Ma and Pa Kettle in those chairs.
