Animal House

This house in Alberta, Canada, is on the market for $935,000. It has 3 bedrooms, 3.5 baths, a view of downtown Calgary, and, let’s just say, a love for animals. Lots and lots of wild animals.

You don’t see leopard-print toilet covers every day of the week, do you? With everything else going on in this hall, I didn’t even notice the fountain hanging on the wall at first:

I wonder, when you’re watching TV in the family room, do you ever feel like someone is watching you?

I don’t think they ever met an animal–or an animal rug–they didn’t like. Even the stairwell is decorated accordingly:

This boy’s room reminds me of a child’s room I posted last year: Girl’s Room Gone Wild. I’m surprised they didn’t use that same leopard-print carpet here.

This dog looks pretty proud of himself for catching that tiger in the hall. Good boy!

I suddenly have the urge to go on safari. Thanks to Jennifer for sending me the listing. If you ever come across a house with personality, send me the link!

For $935,000 – I hope there’s a live leopard in there too!

That’s what it looks like when hobbies and interests turn into obsessions! I guess they skipped the”how to stage your house to sell” meeting with their realtor, huh?!

8 Kathy @ Creative Home Expressions September 1, 2009 at 8:58 am

I thought it was going to be just the one room – not the whole house!

9 Melanie September 1, 2009 at 9:06 am

As a vegetarian, I would be afraid to go in that house. It is wrong on so many levels!

10 Becky K. September 1, 2009 at 9:17 am

O.k. this is themed to the max.

This will take a special buyer…I’m thinking!

My hubby would love the chairs in the TV room!

Hahaha, this is great. The pic of the dog is hilarious! I have a hard enough time with a themed room–much less a whole house!

Thanks for the morning laugh, Julia. Roar!

I know you are suppose to ignore the decor and concentrate on the bones of the house when you are buying a home but it sure is difficult to do in this case.

*……..Oh, myyyyyyyy!!!…… *

J~ We were actually seated two tables away from “The CAT LADY” at brunch at The Four Seasons , Santa Barbara, a while back… And it was, um… yeah… welllll…… ANYhow, this LOOOOOKS JUST LIKE what I would expect HER house (“cathouse”?) to be like… again, “Oh, myyyyy…..”.

Maybe it’s just purrrfect for the homeowner (sorry, I just couldn’t RESIST! It’s early & my coffee hasn’t kicked in yet!)… but, what about her GUESTS? (Or does she ever HAVE any??? Cats can be rather happy in their solitude, can’t they? I dunno… I’m a dog person!)…

Julia, THIS was SOMETHIN’ ELSE!!! Thanks for the… what? Chuckles? Shock? More gray hairs?

Hugs!
Linda

Oh, that poor kid. Growing up in “dead animal house” must have been difficult enough, but to have his parents’ very *ahem* eclectic taste imposed on him in his own room… that’s just not fair. Yikes.

18 Struggler September 1, 2009 at 10:27 am

I’m so surprised that nobody has assertively told them to tone that down!! Probably most buyers will take one look and run, and the person who finally buys it will get a bit of a bargain.

The dog who’s caught the tiger is too funny!!

LOL! Love the picture of the dog that “nabbed” the tiger. In my list of things to blog about, there is a post about the person who takes a trend and completely overdoes it. Any style, can become tacky, once it has been taken to an extreme.

But speaking of wildlife, how funny that today I posted about The Giraffe Manor. That is the way to appreciate wildlife – alive and well!

28 DesignTies September 1, 2009 at 2:12 pm

Eeeek!!! This house is wrong on SO MANY levels!!!! The animal skin rugs are really disturbing — especially the tiger rug that has a HEAD.

Obviously, these homeowners have no concept of RESTRAINT!!!

I like animal print myself, but this is insane.

{Maybe I shouldn’t admit this, but I saw something here that I have in my house — the zebra artwork hanging next to the fountain.}

Not very fond of this house. I hope they didn’t pay someone to design the rooms… And of course it has to be in Canada. lol. What an embarrassment that person is. Calgary is the 2nd most expensive city to live in Canada though, following Vancouver, so I could see someone paying this much.

Scary stuff! A couple of years ago there was a woman that posted her room on RMS and it was jungle themed too, but much worse because of the sexy pictures of her laying on the bed in a leopard nightie… yikes! LOL

50 Khiori September 6, 2009 at 12:00 pm

I can’t believe you people. I’m embarrassed by your comments. They are obviously Canadians of African descent. I know plenty of African Americans (Philadelphia) that decorate their homes with African theme decor. I even have a friend whose wife is from Africa, and runs an African import business here for this exact demand. A leopard somewhere (ceramic, drawing or rug) is a MUST. Look at the statues on the steps. They are celebrating their cultural heritge! And their music. There are as many drums as animals.

Also there are no bears. It’s all African wildlife. Giraffes, elephants, zebras. They have probably told their son to be proud of his heritage and become a strong ‘warrior’ in whatever field he chooses. He is reminded of his ancestors success as hunters. I don’t see anything the least bit funny about it. And I’m sure the owners would be TOTALLY insulted to be told by the realtor to take it down!
