A few months ago, I discovered Kids Crooked Houses, creative playhouses for kids that look like cartoons that have sprung to life, and planned to do a post about them. Then I saw them featured on Jon & Kate Plus 8 last night, and it was fun to see the four Crooked Houses they created for the kids. (It was basically an hour-long commercial for the company, but since it was the happiest thing about the episode, I was okay with that.) Check out the “Gosselin Garden Shop,” run by Leah, Hannah, and Alexis:
Mady invites Leah into a bright green playhouse:
Here’s the pirate-themed Crooked House for the boys, Aaden, Colin, and Joel:
You can see more photos from the episode on the TLC website. Kids Crooked Houses offers both custom models like these (where the kids help design what kind they want) and standard ones. Here’s a standard green playhouse that is for sale on Amazon for $2,492.27 (love that they added that 27 cents to the price):
For more information about Kids Crooked Houses, check out their website. To see the post I wrote about Jon & Kate’s old house that is still on the market and the big new house they moved into recently, click here.
For those of you who are sick of hearing about Jon & Kate Gosselin, I apologize, but I love a cute playhouse and just couldn’t resist showing these! (Watching their marriage dissolve on TV, however–not so enjoyable. Ugh.)
P.S. If you love playhouses, you might also like the ones I featured in this post: Hooked on Playhouses.

I loved those crooked houses!! I also did not love watching the resolution of their marriage. I had hopes that they would just make a separation, give each other some space, and then hopefully {after Jon has his mid life crisis} get back together. I had heard rumors of the divorce filing today, but couldn’t believe my eyes at the end of the show when they announced their divorce. SO incredibly sad. Especially because I’m reading Kate’s book, “Multiple Blessings”. It’s so sad to see where they came from, where they are now, and that they are breaking up after ALL of that. Sigh.
Adorable houses though!

Cute play houses. I’m not surprised they filed for divorce. Kate is so bossy & Jon is so laid back. Evey episode she’d rip him apart over such trivial things like coupons!! I could never got thru a single episode. I wish them both the best. Something tells me Kate will think she did nothing wrong. They will be better off with someone else or off on their own. It’s too bad they didn’t figure all this out before, you know…the whole 8 kids thing….

Ahhh I love the way they have a garden shop!
It’s sad that they are getting a divorce. How are they going to manage 8 kids as single parents? I guess the strain of having 8 kids probably helped force them apart

Love that last green one! Could a husband who likes right angles handle having that in the yard? He doesn’t even like for a hammock to be placed at an angle! I don’t think so!
TheOldPostRoad, I so agree with your husband! These crooked houses make my vertigo act up! I find the angles nauseating.
I love these playhouse but I do not love the prices! Argh! I used to watch that show, but last night’s is the last episode I think I can stomach. I cancelled the auto record on my dvr – enough is enough! So freaking sad I can’t bear to watch it anymore.

I don’t think John is anywhere near mature enough to have one kid let alone eight. The earings don’t help either.
is there a long-running reality show about a married couple where the couple *doesn’t* break up eventually (the duggars may be the exception)? the stress of all the kids must be a lot, but to add doing a show to that? they didn’t stand a chance.
i never watched more than one or two shows. i couldn’t stand their dynamic. of course i feel the most bad for the kids.
those playhouses are super awesome. i could never afford one, but they are just beautiful and brilliant.

Oh, I missed the episode last night! Sad about their divorce…

Adorable houses. Sad show. I couldn’t watch, just read about it. I kept hoping the “huge decision” was going to be to quit the show and focus on repairing their marriage and family. So, so sad.

We haven’t had mainstream TV in our home since 2001. We get our news via the internet. Whenever I’m reminded of how TV programs have evolved over the past decade, I’m glad we made the decision to “oust the tube”. Our family life can be chaotic enough – that leaves little time to watch the drama of other people’s lives. Not to sound uncaring, but I’m thankful I’m not qualified to comment on Jon and Kate’s marriage or divorce. I’m a huge fan of playhouses, though.

Doesn’t anyone else think it’s kind of weird to purchase a pre-fab playhouse designed to look like it was built by amateurs? Whatever happened to the days when parents and kids would bond over the building of their playhouse? How many of your memories go “I remember that weekend that dad paid someone to build us a playhouse”?? Yeah, memories like that will last a lifetime! And I’m sure they’ll be a great comfort to those kids when their dad moves out – at least they’ll have the playhouses that someone else built for them.
And on an aside, did anyone else notice how the oldest two girls are taking on a really b*tchy control-freak tone of voice just like their mother?
So basically the Gosselins received playhouses that were worth more than $10,000? For free?
Anna–
I would assume that the playhouses were given to them for “promotional consideration,” yes, considering the way they worked an entire episode around them. But I don’t know that for sure. -Julia
Actually they got houses that are worth more than 20,000 dollars. If you look on their site crookedhouses.com. It says that custom houses START out at 5,000 dollars. The gosselin kids’ crooked houses are actually pictured in examples of custom crooked houses.
I just don’t understand – In less than a year ago they were renewing their wedding vows to show the children they would be together forever and now divorcing. Didn’t they have any idea then?
Growing up I was always drawn to small confind quarters. Under the stairs, in my closet… later when i was 10 I remember building my own “fort” out of borrowed (cough cough) wood and nails from the neighboring construction spot.
I suppose I had a VERY crooked house. But i loved it.
While other’s might be tired of the story of Jon and Kate — i find it a curious study of what we as a country find entertaining. Maybe it helps us feel better about our lives? I dont know … but its sad either way.

I saw part of that episode last night until T said he refused to watch any more on “his” TV. I thought the playhouses were darling…the best thing about that episode. I feel so bad for those kids.
I am definitely going to check out your other post on playhouses.

I absolutely agree with you, seeing the kids playing in the Crooked Houses was the best part of the episode, so sad, I hope they end up ok in the end.

There was a crooked man
Who walked a crooked mile.
He found a crooked sixpence
Against a crooked stile.
He bought a crooked cat,
Which caught a crooked mouse,
And they all lived together
In a crooked little house.
Just thought I would throw this in for a bit of levity! Have a wonderful evening all. Cathy

Love the crooked houses. Little pricey though. I’ve always been drawn to small quarters too. My Grandma had a closet that connected two bedrooms(kind of a jack and jill closet) and I think my brother and I spent every visiting minute in there.
I’ve never watched Jon and Kate, which is shocking considering the reality TV junkie I am. I do however read about the drama in my weekly rags. They’ve been on the flipping covers for months. I’m actually bored with it all. I think I prefer reality drama that doesn’t involve children.
You are one smart friend….12,000? Am I 12,001. Did you have the post planned or just knew that this would be perfect timing. LOVE IT!

Those are cute little houses!
I used to watch the show a few years back. I think they let the money from the show be more important to them than their marriage and their family. I feel very sorry for the kids.
I also think it’s a possibility that the whole divorce thing is a fake, just to get ratings up. People may want to know more and go out and buy her book. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were back together soon.

The houses are cute, but way to much money for what they are. As for Jon and Kate, my mom always said if you don’t have anything nice to say….

I love the crooked homes. Now if Jon and Kate could only fix their broken marriage. Is it just me, or do others wish this reality show would just disappear from the airwaves?
These are so cool! Very Dr. Seuss-looking!
I loved these playhouses also. I so wish my son was little again so I could get one! Maybe when he is older and gets married and has kids I will be able to get one when I am a grandma
