Oh, how silly of the homeowners! Anyone with an ounce of sense knows that when you put photos on the internet of your home people are free to post and comment as they like. Jeez. A lawyer? That says to me that there is something more going on with this house than simple photos. Let's hope who buys it has a really good home inspector.

Julia - good for you for sticking to your principals.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to weigh in on this. I appreciated all of your comments. For me it was a personal issue rather than a legal one. If the homeowners didn't want me to post their photos, then I felt I should respect their wishes. -Julia

I'm an attorney and I am offended that you took down the post. I hereby make demand that you put it back, or I will file a lawsuit against you for offending me.

Okay, I can't actually do that. But, my ersatz legal demand above has about as much foundation in the law as the moronic demand letter that scared you into taking it down in the first place.

[...] Looking for the photos of this Georgian Colonial that I posted last week? You can see the interior photos on the MLS listing here. And you can read why I removed them here. [...]

Some things are worth fighting for, and one of them is free speech. Unlike most of the people here that would rather just get along, I think you should not have taken the post down. Will you take down every post that offends one person somewhere on earth? Those people were simply bullies, and the only way to stop that kind of behavior is to stand up to them. They had no cause of action, and they knew it, but apparently they knew that the mere mention of an "argument with attorneys" was enough to stifle your speech (and there are attorneys that do nothing but defend free spech on the internet, for free). Most unfortunate.

I for one am grateful for the kerfluffle over this house. I found your blog through a link at CF's blog. I LOVE your site and am busy browsing all the beautiful paint colors people have chosen. I'm in heaven!

It was the higher road to remove the photos per their request. However, as pp said, it is more free advertising and our comments here aren't going to kill a sale. True buyers will walk in and say the same things we did here. Or, a person may have passed it onto a serious buyer. Real estate is very emotional but hopefully the sellers will take some comments to heart and make some more neutralizing changes. And I thank them for the idea of making a Parchesi rug!

If I was thinking of purchasing the place, I would be more weary of the sellers immediate use of a lawyer because a few people who have no intention of buying in the market, let alone the house in question, post some perceived disparaging comments. It seams to me just a little quick on the attorney trigger. A note form the owner would be best, followed by the listing agent.
