I ran across this photo in the real estate listings and had to stop and count the number of pillars the builder managed to put in this relatively small space. When I posted it on my Facebook page this week and asked whether everyone thought there were too many pillars in the space, I got some pretty funny comments about it. One of my favorites, from a reader named Kathi:
“I hope they leave a light on at night.”
I broke my toe walking into a piece of furniture in the middle of the night recently, so I could appreciate the wisdom of Kathi’s advice. Ha. What do you think? Do you like this look or do you think there are a few too many?

I would kinda feel like a pinball in there–bouncing from column to column!
Just another example of a misguided builder…

Wow, that’s a whole lotta columns! If there’s that many in the great room, I wonder how many there are on the front of the house. Yikes!

Ha! Pole dancing!! Double Ha!
It looks like one of those corn mazes we have in Ohio that you can never find your way out of! Do they have those any place else?

I’m not a big fan of pillars at all, let alone 6 of them! Just not my style.

way too many pillars! I agree with Susan. It made me think of a pole dancing party. ick!

It just looks cluttered. Of course, it’s possible that it wasn’t the builders’ idea, but the original owner who had the house built…maybe they thought more columns=status symbol.

Is that the version of “wall-less” living? I’ve seen open spaces w/out all that pillars, usually you see that kinda of thing in a basement, my luck my nieces & nephews would show up with huge rubber bands to launch themselves with it.. either that or a volleyball net.

Pillar sale on isle 20 !
Oh my gosh, this looks silly! I assume they were looking for “architectural elements” but couldn’t think of anything other than pillars. I can imagine that it would make a fun obstacle course.

Well, as opposed to having walls attached to all those pillars, they are a great alternative. But just for looks…um…not so much. : )

NOT a fan of columns… but I guess they are better than the house falling down.

It looks like a Pillar Maze. In my neck of the woods, they do that type of thing outside with acres of corn!

I agree with Angela, I had pinball on my mind when I saw the room! They sould have lights and bells on them so when you run into them you get the right effect. : )

Too many columns?
Not half enough.
And mirrors, lots of mirrors, floor to ceiling mirrors. Anyplace where a column isn’t, put a mirror.
If only columns could be mirrored…
Yep, definitely too many pillars. Maybe there was a sale on at Home Depot the day they went to pick up a couple of pillars….
