This Hi & Lois cartoon made me laugh. If you go to a lot of Open Houses in your neighborhood like I do, then you can probably relate to it. I always run into my fellow neighbors who are being just as snoopy as I am. When we put our last house on the market, I told our Realtor “No Open Houses. My neighbors have all been here already.”

Come See My New Facebook Page!
I’m trying to get the word out that I now have a new Hooked on Houses Facebook profile page for my friends and readers. The one I had was set up wrong. Instead of a personal page for my blog, I was supposed to set up a “fan page.” (You think that because I’ve been blogging for over a year that I’d be better at these sorts of things, wouldn’t you? ‘Fraid not.)
Apparently Facebook frowns on this and will shut it down if they find out. I’m quickly trying to move everyone to the new one before that happens! So if you’re my friend on Facebook already and haven’t made the switch, or want to start following what I’m talking about there, click here.
You no longer have to send a Friend Request to follow me there–that link will take you straight to my page. Then (assuming you’re a member of Facebook already), you can click “Become a Fan” at the top of the page, and you’ll get my updates from now on. Easy! I use Facebook to chat about things that are going on “behind the blog.”
Hope to see you there! -Julia

julia, thanks for being a trail blazer for me. Twittering and facebook are on my “to do” and “to learn” lists. I am still trying to master or pretend to master blogging. I finally learned how to post pictures on my blog. Now I need to learn to control the text and prevent the large gaps between the pictures I post. It all looks good when I preview but once I click publish post, it has a mind of its own!

That is so cute, and so true! So many nosey neighbors (myself included) go to Open Houses!
Oh and great idea about the Fan Page at Facebook

Even if you do entertain, most of the neighbors never get to see “all” of your home like they can at an open house (closets, cabinets, medicine chests, etc, etc…)
When my former home was put up for sale again I just had to go to the open house and see what the new owners had done to it. So put me down as a Looky-Loo too.

Bella–I must have a very smart friend who tells me about these things.
Too bad I didn’t understand what you meant when you first told me to set up a FB page for my blog. Took me awhile, but I’m getting there! I think I’m following all the rules now.
DaK–another reason I didn’t have an open house! Ha.
Grace–Oh, I would totally do that, too! I check the listings for my former houses every few weeks, just in case one of them comes on the market. I did get to see one a few years ago, and they had trashed it. Very depressing after all the love and attention we had given it! -Julia
LOL! That is so true. I hated doing open houses because the majority (like 90%) of the people who came in were nosy neighbors. What a waste of a morning.

We joke in our neighborhood that we should start bringing appetizers and beverages to the open houses. We live in a very social neighborhood…I love it!

I’ve sort of walked away from Twitter…though if I ever get to the point where I really want to build blog traffic I think it’s a good tool. My favorite “online pastime” (when I can squeeze in!) is still blogging and lately I’m having too much fun seeing old boyfriends and their families on facebook, lol!!

About neighbors crashing your open houses – throw out the welcome mat. You never know when a neighbor has a friend, a friend of a friend or a family member who is looking for a house to buy in your neighborhood. Your home might be perfect for them! My motto is this – when selling a home, traffic begets traffic. Even if it’s curious neighbors.

Julia, I’ve been looking into this but it wouldn’t let me sign up using my blog name — did you have to set it up differently from the start? Does that make sense?
I don’t want it connected with my personal account and I can’t figure it out!
Sarah (Thriftydecorchick)’s last blog post..How to deal with soaring ceilings
Hi, Sarah! You’ve got to do it as a “business” instead of as a personal account. That’s how I screwed up the first time–by setting it up like a personal account under my blog name. Then I learned that’s against Facebook rules. Oops.
Go to the sign-up page. It’ll say, “You can also create a page for a business or a band.” That’s what I did the second time around, and I think–I hope!–it’s right now.
Some days, technology gives me a headache. Ha.
Good luck! -Julia
