I’m Hooked on Your Blogs (and Comments!)

by hookedonhouses on October 16, 2008

Have I ever told you the story of how I met my husband?

I was a sophomore in college. An English major. And not doing very well in the computer-programming class I was taking.

Dave was the professor’s lab assistant who patiently taught me how to write that end-of-year computer programming project and saved me from the “F” I probably deserved. I always say that marrying him was the least I could do to show my appreciation.

What Dave may not have realized was that he was signing on for a lifetime of helping me deal with these darned computers.

All of this to say: Big thanks goes to wonderful, patient, long suffering Dave for getting my blog moved from my old Wordpress site to my new domain. I don’t know how all you other bloggers do it without a live-in IT expert to help.

My son Jake is 13 now and almost as good at computer stuff as his dad. Last week I came home and he surprised me with a new favicon for my blog that he designed himself. I love it! Look up–see the little pink house with the blue roof in the URL address line? Jake did that!

Just wanted you to know that this blog is really a family project. I couldn’t do it without my Home Crew.

You know who else I couldn’t do this without? Why, YOU, of course!

I keep blogging because you keeping coming and commenting. I enjoy your blog-friendship. That’s what keeps me going. The best part? You’re the kind of friends who give me awards.

I received this “I Heart Your Blog” Award from three of my favorite bloggers–Le at Third on the Right, Marie Louise at Cottage Industries, and Melody at Pennies in My Pocket. Thanks, Ladies! I Heart Your Blogs, too!

Laura at She’s Cookin’ Now honored me with the Excellent blog award. She’s always cookin’ up some good recipes over at her blog, so go check it out!

(If I forgot to mention any awards you’ve given me in the last month or so, please let me know. With the blog move, I’ve been a little scattered.)

Instead of following the various rules for those awards, I’m going to pass out my new HOOKED ON YOUR BLOG AWARD to 5 of my favorite bloggers.

This button replaces the one that I used at my old address. If you were given one of those old ones, or I have ever given you an award in the past, please help yourself to the new one with my updated blog address on it.

I hereby award the October 2008 HOOKED ON YOUR BLOG AWARD to:

  1. Emily at Remodeling This Life
  2. Marie at Watch the Wind Blow By
  3. Maya at Springtree Road
  4. Angela at The Painted House
  5. Ms. Tee at Delightful Home

These are all women I consider to be good blog friends. I wish I had more than just a blog button to give them! I hope you’ll visit their sites and say hello.

Thanks to all of my readers who don’t have blogs but faithfully visit every week and leave wonderful comments. I appreciate every single one of you. I need to make another button that says “HOOKED ON YOUR COMMENTS.”

ANNOUNCING: HOOKED ON FRIDAYS

I’m going to try Mister Linky for the first time tomorrow and call it “Hooked on Fridays.” If it goes well, I’ll use Mister Linky next week for the Hooked on House Tours party. I guess you could call it a dry run. (If you don’t know what Mister Linky is, check out Kimba’s recent party post to see it in action.)

I know this is last-minute, but if you want to participate, your assignment is simple: Post something that you’re hooked on. You can show us anything you really, really like–a TV show, a dessert, a pretty room you found in a magazine, or the color red. Whatever! It’s just for fun and to tell us a little more about yourself. (I’m hooked on this round front porch I saw in Columbia Tusculum!)

Write a new post or link to one you’ve already got about something you like. Just be sure to link back here so your readers can check out what everyone else has to show us, too! Mister Linky will go up late tonight and stay up through the weekend for anyone who feels like playing along! If you have any questions, let me know. Thanks! -Julia

I’m married to an engineer. I always tell him that I married him for his computer savvy, but we’ve been married almost 30 years and there were no personal computer way back then. Our son is an English major, but he’s great on the computer, too.

Hello Julia – what a lovely post .. I also love Jake’s little pink house on your URL – maybe he could do a guest post on day explaining how we could make our own – like a make and take stamp party – only different !

I am hooked on your round porch – delightful …

Have a lovely Friday – le

Katie–you’re right! It’s so hard to pick only 5 of my faves. Look at how long my blogroll is getting! There are a lot of fabulous blogs out there. I hope to start giving awards more regularly so that I can spread the love around.

Just realized some of you may be looking for a Top Design recap today. I watched the debate last night instead of TD, so I haven’t seen it yet.

Today I’m going to be hanging out with my beautiful sister-in-law and my brand-new baby niece Emma, so I won’t have a chance to do the recap. Sorry! I’m afraid I sort of lost interest in the show after the garden rooms a couple of weeks ago. Maybe I’ll watch next week and recap if it’s a good episode, though. Who else is still watching? I’d love to hear your opinions! -Julia

Hmmm… my theory is that you faked the computer illiteracy to get closer to the hot assistant in the computer lab. :)

I’m going out of town to visit family, but if my iPhone works in the middle of nowhere Oklahoma. I will join in on the Friday fun for sure!

Okay, I love Angela & Ms. Tee’s blogs! Angela is so artsy… I just love seeing what she comes up with for her house. And Ms. Tee always has some great goodies. I’m looking forward to checking out the other women’s sites.

Top Design was even weirder last night. You DID not miss anything. What is with this show? It started out so good, but now all they do is call Eddie “granny” and do weird challenges. Nathan is going to win, why even watch any more!!! Okay, enough ranting for now:-) Have fun with your baby niece.

THANK YOU, Julia! I’m totally hooked on your blog, too! Blog friends are so much fun to have. I will post my award soon…I’m a little out of sorts this week. :)

LOVE your hook-up story with Dave. That was one of the smartest things you could have done to marry an IT guy…but I’m sure he is super sweet, too. :) And, your son, aw, what a guy!

I’ve got something in mind for tomorrow.

Julia, you are such a sweetie! I was reading your post thinking, oh there’s no way I’ll be on that list. :) You made my day.

Enjoy that sweet, new baby smell! And those baby toes! And baby cheeks!

As someone who also benefitted from your fraternization with the computer lab assistant in that programming class, thanks for sharing Dave’s expertise. It was totally worth the pink lace with BOW you forced me to wear a year and a half later. Not to mention your stellar advice to find a man with skills!

Love the pink house!!! Love the love story, too, so sweet :)

I wrote my blog post for tomorrow’s party and have it set to go at 5:00 AM.

There is a rumor that there is a Frank Lloyd Wright home on my block!!! You cannot see it from the street…I’m telling you, Julia, you would be so proud of me…we live in a very exclusive subdivision, that was all custom built homes, mostly built in the 70’s…but the thing is, we bought the least expensive home on the block…and got a sweet deal on it, too…although with the way prices of homes are these days…I wonder how sweet it seems today…but back to the FLWright home….I would sooooo love to get in there and photograph it and have it on a fantasy tour, if not by next week, than sometime! I just have to get the courage up to hand write a letter (who does that anymore???) and tell them who I am and about your site and why I want in that house!!! (I have been a FLW fan since I visited Falling Waters as a young adult, so half my life!) It would be such a thrill for me, I sure hope they will allow me into their home!

Well, yadda yadda, I’ll yak your ear off! lol

See you tomorrow,
Bella
PS: We may be taking a weekend trip to Indianapolis soon, hubby’s idea, sounds good to me, too, though :)

So much homework, so little time. ;-) Watch Top Design — check. Comment on Hooked on Houses — check. Pick up new Hooked on Your Blog button — will do. Write a “Hooked On” post on Friday — looking forward to it. Have I forgotten anything? You know I just follow you around like a little puppy dog. ;-)

Your new blog layout is perfection. Your husband did good — on the blog and on marrying you. Your son, Jake, what a boy genius! By the way, I have a 13-year-old daughter. She’s cute and good in math, but computers aren’t her thing. I’m just sayin’…

What a cute story! My hub is my personal IT guy too. He works for one company and hates that I use another one for my blog. But he still helps anyway. Gotta luv em for that ;)
