Are You Hooked on House Tours?

by hookedonhouses on July 29, 2008

I’m going to take a wild guess that since you’re here you enjoy a good house tour as much as I do. I also love a good blog party and play along whenever possible. So–drumroll!–I’ve decided to host one of my own called “Hooked on House Tours.”

Mark your calendar for Tuesday, August 5th. If you have a blog, I hope you’ll participate! If you don’t have a blog, then all you have to do is show up and look around. I’m imagining this as one giant Open House tour around the blogosphere.

If you want to participate, then all you have to do is host a house tour on your site so I can link to you. It can be a house that’s on the market, a friend’s house you love, pictures you took during a local home tour, or even your own house. Maybe there’s an historic mansion in your town you want to show us. Doesn’t matter. It’s up to you.

Then we’ll all spend the day hopping from one blog to the other, peering into houses and making some new blog friends. What could be more fun than that?

UPDATE: The party has started! Click here to join the fun.

A Few Notes (Pay Attention, Bloggers!):

1. If you plan to participate, please leave a comment on this post so I can get a general idea of who I’ll be linking to Tuesday. If you don’t comment, then I may resort to going to your blog and tracking you down to BEG you, so just make it easy on both of us and volunteer right now. Thanks.

2. E-mail me the link to your post when it’s live and ready to be linked to (try to publish it Monday night if possible so I can include your link early Tuesday morning). Be sure to give me the link to the actual post, not your home page, so that people who may want to see it in days to come don’t have to scroll through searching for it. My e-mail address is jknispel @ cinci.rr.com.

3. Be sure to link back to my party post so that your readers can visit all the other Open Houses that day, too!

Are you up for it? I hope so. Because I don’t want to plan a party and have nobody show up. That would just be sad. Then I’d have to have a Pity Party, and I really don’t think anyone wants to see that. It could get ugly.

I’m giving you plenty of notice so you have time to come up with something. So start thinking about what you’d like to share. I can’t wait to see what you all have to show us! -Julia

Ooh, this sounds like fun and I have the perfect house in mind. It’s a beautiful historic home 1 block from Franklin’s downtown square that’s just been completely redone. I just have to figure out how to get the pictures to my blog. For 1.7 mil, I don’t think they’ll just let me traipse through, right? ;)

Hey miss “having been in cave”. You crack me up!

Please count me in for your party. Just so I can be difficult..how many tours can we sign up? Like say I have 3 different posts of home tours. Do I link up each one individually or combine in one post? :-)

hmmmm…would one of my usual “small town excursions” count? because i just went to the cutest little town today…

either way, i’ll think of something. let me know!

That sounds like a lot of fun. I am not currently living my house, but I am sure I could find SOME house to take pictures of. Maybe I’ll look around on my local realtor site. Great idea!

Amy–
That house sounds great. Break in if you have to, but get us those pictures! ;-)

Brandee–
I’d say give me the link to one of you house tours and then link to the others from it. Sort of how I do with mine at the bottom of each post (”If you’re hooked on house tours, then check these out, too”). That’ll work. And it’ll keep people on your site longer and you’ll get more hits–always a good thing. So add as many as you want. The more the merrier!

Maya–
Sure! People would love that, I’m sure. -J

Several of you have asked if it’s okay to post photos of houses that are on the market. I think it’s fine if they’re already all over the Internet on real estate sites to post them on your blog and give them even more publicity for selling their house. I’m sure they’d appreciate it! I do that quite a bit here and sometimes have the real estate agents write and thank me. You might just want to include a link to the real estate page “for more information.” (I don’t, however, give out the address of any house I see. Just general information like the town it’s in.)

I’m so excited about the ideas I’m already hearing from you guys. And I’m so glad you’re joining my blog party! -J :-)

Hey, Julia, I’d like to play, but dont’ really have a house tour ready to go. I’ve shared a few rooms in my house, my master bedroom most recently, so can I link that up?? I’d love to play along if that’s OK & I can add your button to my sidebar for now.

I’ll email you that link & you can see if that’s OK. It’s from a post from last week.

Hi Julia!
I love your blog–and the name is GREAT!! I just recently found it–being a new blogger–and was hoping to participate in the house tour. Alas and alack, I am unable to as I have been tending to my dear mother-in-law after some surgery she had.
I am really bummed about it and was wondering if there were a smattering of other ladies eager but unable to participate like me on Tuesday–if there were any chance of you hosting another house tour party??
Blessings!
