I accidentally watched the last 15 minutes of this, so I missed all the early drama of construction, crying, etc. so thanks for the rehash. When I did start watchng they were doing their "shows" -- describing the rooms, and CindyVern were fawning all over them. First, why were they watching on that itty bitty TV? Do they ever view the rooms in person? Are we designing for a real family or only for how it looks on TV? Second, What. Are. They. Smoking? "I love his energy" "She's got such good energy" What happened to picking a TV host because they are professional and will not only do a good job at their craft but also convey thier message and instruction to the audience in a professional manner. She was all giggles and he was all "awesome!". There was no personality to either of their designs. It seems like HGTV is just trying to make the best of a bad situation - i.e., a bad collection of contestants with no actual grounds for competition.

I vote for "C. None of the above." They are both horrid and if either of them gets a show I give it 3 episodes before it tanks.

Hi Julia :)

I think YOU should win... something for watching this and your fantastic commentary. Other than that I guess Jen, but I would kick them both out and say "Do Over!" LOL

I'm a bit torn. I really like Matt as a person, but I like Jennifer's designs much more. I think her show would be a bit more interesting. I want to do those leaf things on my walls that she did in the last episode! So I'm voting for Jenn. Certainly.

And I noticed that with Vern too! Way too many candles. I think the candle wall would look spooky, not serene. They didn't seem like the cultish sorority. But I digress.

Go Jenn!

You know, I was so excited for this year's Design Star to begin and now that we're at the end all I can say is...YAWN! I'm not even going to bother voting!

Matt did give the family what they wanted- thanks for pointing that out, Jane- so even though I personally liked Jen's room better, aesthetically, she totally missed the mark for that family. The living spaces are neutral and that couch is going to be ruined post haste!

Also, even though Matt's rooms are closer to what the family asked for, as a designer he ought to know that those flimsy bamboo blinds do not actually function in a meaninful way. They do not provide privacy or light control. Part of being a designer is understanding what will function for the clients and both Matt and Jen failed in that department.

And I hate that I care enough to write this much after saying how boring it was!

Does it strike anyone else that the only people of color we saw in the whole episode were the kids in the marching band? Does New Orleans have no black carpenters, installers or even store help? The producers should be ashamed.

I think it is a tough one. I think they are both very personable on camera and equal in the design department. Both need much more experience before I would give them their own show. That being said, I will be voting for Jen.

I find Matt's design perfect for what his family
asked for. They wanted no flair no extra
and they wanted minimal and that is exactly
what he gave them. We may not like the end
result but it is what his family asked for and
that is his job.

If I asked for bright Orange and shocking Pink
I would expect to get it especially if I were
paying the designer. I know because I do
custom bridal and clothes for people and have
had some of the oddest request and some that
I really really really do not want to say I did but
it is what the customer wanted and what they
loved once they got it. Case in point -- the Mother
of the bride dress done in shocking Pink with
black lace overlay -- which was so short and so
tight she could not sit down -- but she was over
joyed as that is exactly what she wanted. I on
the other hand want no one to know I made it.LOL

The Customer is always right and in this case
Jen did not give them what they wanted they wanted
bright and seating at the dining table for 10 -- they
got seating for 6 comfortable at one table and then
a second table how cumbersome is that. They got
earth tones and with children a white sofa -- does not
matter that it is leather it still stains and shows dirt
much more so than a dark one.

All this said I would watch either but will vote for
Matt
