Hmmm. Something’s just not right with this kitchen. Did they think those pendant lights were intended to keep the french fries warm? My six-year old daughter Lily just walked by, glanced at this, and said, “They better be careful. Those lights might burn up the countertop!”
This kitchen belongs to an older home in Cincinnati that just sold for about $300,000. Here’s what it looks like from the front:
It’s kind of a fun house to look at. Let’s just say the homeowners were not afraid of color! Here, what the heck, I’ll just show you some of the other rooms while I’m at it. Can you count how many wall colors the house has?
Here’s the foyer:

The master bedroom (which coincidentally has the same animal-print carpet as the Girl’s Room Gone Wild that we looked at recently):

Hmm. Yeah, those lights in the kitchen are just… weird. lmao
However. I LOOOOOVE that staircase! I long for a staircase like that some day.
I noticed that Property Virgins on Sunday was in your neck of the woods again.
) Cute houses and SO affordable!
Maybe they’re using the lights as plate warmers.
Oy. I feel really overstimulated by all the colors in that house. However, that does not stop me from feeling jealous of the architecture and character. How many people have a *fireplace* in their foyer? Swoon!!
Hmm…maybe it is the small punch of yellow in the corner? Kind of breaks up the room.
I don’t shrink away from intense color in the least, but do my keen eyes spy black velvet Warholl-esque Elvises over the living room fireplace?
i’m not feeling those colors – but that window seat! be still my beating heart!!
They are eclectic …
you know, I’d almost rather see a house like this, that reflects real personality, than one that is completely beige and is furnished is entirely from Pottery Barn. That being said…Oy! for resale purposes, they may have wanted to tone it down a bit. Otherwise, good for them. But – those pendant lights gave me a good laugh from the very beginning!
I love it all…but that backsplash is fantastic.
You know, when you asked ‘what’s wrong’, I came up with something different than the hanging lights (though, now that you point them out, they ARE a tad low!). I thought the stove was placed out of the flow of the kitchen. The kitchen triangle seems to be broken up by the funky island/eating bar thingy. Anyway, just an observation.
I love this house. Love it. And I love that there’s personality here. (I agree with Courtney that it’s nice to see something other than the expected beige-with-Pottery Barn). The bones of the house are fantastic. If I bought this place, though, first order of business I’d raise those lights — more for safety than aesthetics. I burn myself in the kitchen enough without worrying about getting burned on “overhead” lights.
The only things to love about this house are completely overwhelmed by the seizure inducing colors they have chosen. I could not rest for one second in this house. It is a crime that they took such a nice house with wonderful woodwork and turned it into a bizarre haphazard collection of ugly furniture and even worse artwork. Gross….as for the lights in the kitchen well what can I say some people just don’t read directions. what kind of light could it possibly be putting out into the room when it is 2 inches from the kitchen counter. Stupid!
Whew, that is one colorful home. And your daughter is right… I’m surprised those lights havent burned spots on the table.
Thanks for sharing though, this was fascinating.
Phew. I think they managed to work pea-green or mustard-yellow into every single room and color scheme in that house.
But oh those triangular windows!
Lol, the lights are interesting, and they have interesting art too…
?!?!?!? And I thought I hung my pendant light too low. Nope. I feel better now.
WOW-WEE! That is a lot of color. The lights in the kitchen are hung so low, I wonder why they did that?
Those light pendents are hysterical. Looks like the “girls” are droopin a little.
Elvis Elvis, let me be keep those lamps far from me. Thanx its a good day when you can quote Grease in a blog comment.
Keeping the french fries warm–you crack me up!
Okay, love the dining room table and the wild carpet.
Wow…talk about color. I’d have to try to get used to that. Hey, thanks for stopping by my blog today. And I have found yet another commonality we have…you live in Ohio. My hubby, Dave, grew up in Dayton….this is all getting to weird you know??!!!?? LOL!!!
Have a Blessed Evening~

Maybe you can pull on the lights and they’ll zip right up where they should be????
Love the colors in the house – especially the dining room – very dramatic. That little room with the windows in the attic?? – very cool place to hang out!
Orignal, for sure…I just am not a fan of the purple!
They definitely made it theirs, though!!
Someone gave them some bad advice about the height of those pendants!!
Linda
Looks like they installed it themselves… didn’t realize you can trim the wires or adjust them… or maybe they wanted to be featured on your site
those lights are just terrible!!!!! too funny. they looked like hats in a row in the first pciture.
