French-Chateau Powder Room: Hooked or Hate It?
Here’s a little something to kick off this week’s Fantasy Open House series. So many of you played along last time when we toured homes for sale in Hyde Park, Ohio that I thought we’d do it again. For the next Open House series I’m showing you some amazing properties on the market in Birmingham, Alabama.
This ornate powder room belongs to one of them–a multimillion-dollar home built to look like a French Chateau. Since it’s not your run-of-the-mill half bath, I thought it would be a good candidate for our new game, Hooked or Hate It?
Take a good look. Now tell us what you think. Are you hooked on this look or do you hate it? Or something in between? I added a middle-of-the-road option this time around, per popular request.
THE POLL IS NOW CLOSED. CLICK HERE TO SEE THE FINAL RESULTS.
Remember, there are no right or wrong answers. It’s just a chance to spout your personal opinion and think about whether different styles appeal to you or not. Don’t forget to leave a comment letting us know why you voted the way you did. As you know, reading everyone’s comments is half the fun.

If You’re Hooked on Playing Hooked or Hate It:

I Love it! It is so well done. I am especially fond of the piece of furniture used for the vanity and the wallpaper on the ceiling.

I like/hate it. I Love everything but the dark walls and floor. I think a rich color would make it look better. Maybe a different tile floor. Gray isn’t doing it for me.
Thanks, this fun.

I hate it! My style is much simpler and it reminds me of what a half bath in the “bat cave” might look like.

I like it – I’d love it if there was a different mirror and some crown molding separating the two papers.
Thanks for your nice comments – I thought you were in Ohio somewhere! Thanks for you awesome views into houses – my favorite!!
Have a great weekend!

OH - I forgot the daisies - it doesn’t look like a daisy room - I’d change to something else - something multi-million looking….orchids perhaps…..

kind of hooked, kind of hate. I like the ceiling and the idea.
But I wouldn’t have it in my home.

Hee! I hate it, but mostly because it’s too dark and I’m not a fan of the “outside” sinks - the ones with the bowl on top of the vanity. The vanity itself is beautiful, though.

Just wanted to say that I found your blog thru Housepeepers and think I’m in love! I can’t wait to see your post on Birmingham, Alabama houses cause my son and his family live there and I’m just down the road in Montgomery!
Wonderful blog!

Wow! You guys are really hating this room so far. It looks like almost everyone has voted “Hate it” on the poll. I don’t think we’ve ever had a poll that was this unanimous! Interesting. -Julia

Blecch!! I’m not big on ornate anything!!
Fun post, though!

Oh, no. Those dark walls would NEVER do. Depressing with a capital D! Blech!

Normally I would say I hate it - but I think if the sconces were changed it would be greatly improved. Maybe it’s the wallpaper on the ceiling that helps.

I agree with Linda…BLECCH! The only thing I like is the cabinet and the sink.

HATE IT! If there is one room in the house I want bright and airy, it’s the bathroom! This is just too dark, too depressing, too…TOO!
