This is my first visit to your blog- found by looking up black & white decorating in a search engine. I really, really love your black/white/neutrals. This is the direction I am going in my home. I think your decorating is very much ‘show home’ worthy. I had also seen the black&white pix you added from around the www. Those and your own pix inspire me to finish the black/white/neutrals in my home (also very much on a budget w/ a 5 yr old in the balance). I really love the impact of houndstooth, harlequin & checked prints. Wherever I see them: hotels, other homes, furniture stores, magazines…it draws my eye to the print. They’re just beautiful and inviting, classic, and at least to me, says the designer has confidence & creativity. Like you, I chose to go this direction b/c of the ease of changing or adding any colorful accessories whenever for a new flair. Thanks : )

I love your living room. The tan with the black and cream soile is fabulous. I am actually in the process of buying a house in which the living room is exactly (i’m talking identical) as the layout of your living room. The placement of the fireplace and windows is a perfect match. I am curious about the tan color on the walls. What brand and color is it? It looks great here and I would like to try it in my new (old) house.

I have just been saying the exact same thing about color! I told my husband that I just cannot do this. I cannot make this commitment. Choosing a color is like a marriage, and I cannot make that commitment. I had black and white in the house for years. After a while I added a little blue in for a little more of a beach cottage type look and was really content with it for years. Somewhere along the line I started seeing color in rooms on magazines and television and thought I just had to have color. I am worse than you. I took four years to choose a beige type color that now a year or two later I cannot stand. I just cannot do color. Like you, if I want color, it will have to be a splash here and there because that is as much as I can commit to color. It was so funny running across your blog when I did. Love your take on b&w. I'm a designer, color forecaster, and blogger and I love b&w, too. It's powerful and sleek. The addition of a bit of color just sets off the whole scene! p.s. try Aura from Benjamin Moore the next time you're trying for a "red" or any other tough color- never takes more than 2 coats regardless of color & it's self-priming. I just found your website. I too love black and white. I think my friend thinks I am “crazy”. I like the flexibility of adding accent colors, and changing the colors as my mood changes. That is fun for me! So glad you are “like me”.

Awesome job. he thing I love most about the simplicity of black and white is how easy it is to introduce accent colors into the room. I did my bedroom about six months ago and I love it every single time I walk into the room. I found a site that makes satin pillowcases and they have an entire page devoted to just black and white prints. I got a set to sleep on and a different set just for decorating! I love the color red so I really like your picture of the living room at Christmas time. I have a lot of red accessories during the holidays and it really makes the house come alive.
